I'm totally on board the Van Damme bandwagon if Borrego doesn't work out.

The Charlotte Van Damme Hornets: Belgians Strike Back

We'd have to trade for Frank Ntilikina though and ban Nic from making fun of Wallonia.

Lol. I totally dig the Charlotte Van Damme Hornets. Now all we need is a pregame intro video of him kicking trees down or some ****

They can also do game specific intro videos where he is kicking down a bunch of whatever the mascot of our opponent is. For a home game against the Pelicans they could do a video of him kicking Pelicans out of the air. Home game against the Grizzlies and hes round housing a live Grizzly before the game starts. Also, he has to be mic'ed at all times during games so everyone can hear all the weird sound effects he makes.

When Dwight Howard shoots a 20 foot jumper with 15 seconds on the shot clock and coach Van Damme can't believe his own eyes...

I'll be impressed if that lasts four years. Hopefully it does (and he plays young guys/doesn't ignore the 3 on defense)

I'm sure most of you on here get emails from the Hornets, but Mitch Kupchak sent this earlier today. We'll see how much of this is just talk to keep us happy, but it's encouraging that our GM acknowledges the importance in staying up-to-date with the current league trends.

Dear Hornets Fan,

I’m excited to officially introduce James Borrego as the new head coach of your Charlotte Hornets. After leading an extensive and in-depth search, it became clear to me that Coach Borrego was the best choice to lead our basketball team. Please join me in welcoming him and his family to Charlotte.

As part of the search process, we identified several factors that were important in the selection of our next head coach. First of all, we wanted a coach with a proven track record of player development. One of the most important aspects of any team’s improvement is its ability to get the most out of its current players and have them play at the highest level possible. During his 15 NBA seasons with San Antonio, New Orleans and Orlando, Coach Borrego has actively participated in the improvement of a number of young players. He knows the challenges that young players go through and understands what it takes for them to continually improve their game.

I also wanted to find a coach that shared my vision for the team’s style of play. As I mentioned when I first arrived in Charlotte, I greatly enjoy the style of play of today’s game: the pace, the tempo, the ball movement, the three-point shooting, the athleticism and the ability to defend. These are the aspects of the game that we will accentuate as a team. I think it is a style of play that is not only enjoyable for the players, but also for you, our fans. Coach Borrego shares my vision and commitment to playing the game this way.

It’s extremely important in today’s NBA to have a head coach that connects with the players in order to get the most out of them as individuals and collectively as a team. A head coach needs to be a communicator, a teacher and a tactician. He needs to be able to earn players’ respect and put them in the best position to succeed each night. Coach Borrego has done just that. He has demonstrated a strong ability to connect with players through his work with them on the floor and his ability to develop relationships with them off of it.

In addition to his characteristics mentioned above, Coach Borrego has learned under Gregg Popovich, one of the NBA’s best head coaches, and has developed into one the league’s most well-regarded assistant coaches. He has been around winning programs. He knows what it takes to be successful at the NBA level – both for the team and individuals. Coach Borrego shares our passion for developing the Hornets into a consistent winner, too. For all of these reasons and more, I believe Coach Borrego is the right person for the job.

Finally, I want to share with you that I’m excited about our future in Charlotte. I know that there is a lot of work to do, and that it won’t be easy – it never is when you are building a team. But I am looking forward to the challenges ahead. We’re preparing for the 2018 NBA Draft as we currently have pick No. 11 in the first round and pick No. 55 in the second round. Along with the draft, there will be additional opportunities to shape our team and our roster this offseason.

I want to thank you for your continued support and for being a part of our Hornets family.

Sincerely,

Mitch Kupchak

Thanks for posting the letter. Good info and communication. The honeymoon begins.

Hopefully JB fits those parameters, as it reflects much of what we are all looking for in our head coach. Lots of work to do.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Doesn't sound like a rebuild is coming, Borrego loves Kemba and Batum. Says as a first time head coach Kemba is a great blessing

Borrego destroyed that press conference. It's easy to see why Mitch likes him so much. He hit on everything this board has been complaining about since Clifford took over. This team is finally going to play modern basketball.

I think Mitch's letter and Borrego's presser both did exactly what they wanted - to get fans excited about the future of the Hornets. Let's see where we go from here. I certainly came away impressed.

I will say Borrego's answer about Dwight said the right things, but he didn't seem all too enthusiastic about him compared to his answers on Kemba and Batum. I think in the back of his mind, he's thinking "Dwight, damn, I gotta deal with that guy and tell him we're not running post-ups for him 20 times a game." Wouldn't be surprised if Dwight gets traded midseason since he's an expiring contract anyway.
Who I woulda took:
2023: Miller | 2022: Duren | 2021: Bouknight, Jones | 2020: Ball | 2019: PJ | 2018: MPJ | 2017: Monk | 2016: Damian Jones | 2015: Winslow | 2014: Vonleh, Napier | 2013: McLemore | 2012: MKG | 2011: Knight, Kawhi
