Our dude is holding out for us. Gilbert offering him full basketball control says enough about what he's capable of. Chauncey will bring back glory days here. My hope is Gores contacting him in a year and demoting SVG to just coach.

ESPN is paying him more than Gilbert offered for the FO gig.

This x 10

I'd rather not see him get out in Dumars shoes when everything went bad and people blindly defend him.

Pretty sure that's not true... but they did offer him a significant raise to stay in broadcasting.

The primary factors here are probably 1) family and 2) LeBron/Gilbert toxicity. He lives in Denver and loves it there, and the future of the Cavs is completely up in the air right now. If LeBron does bolt after next season, Billups would be captain of a sinking ship and take a lot of blame he doesn't deserve.

Also, even though they're friends, I'm sure Chauncey knows Dan Gilbert is an egomaniac that's difficult to work for.

Now is the time! We need a true Piston in the front office before this organization fades into complete oblivion. My hope is a combination of Isiah/Billups, Griffin/Billups, or Zarren/Billups.
Anyone with experience plus our dude Chauncey.

I could see Gores hiring Isiah to be Prez of Basketball Operations. Not sure what Magics title is with the Lakers but the Pistons need similar. Although his previous stints as a GM and coach weren't fantastic (lol understatement) he was an amazing drafter. And players respect the **** outta him.
Hiring Billups as the GM allows Chauncey to learn on the fly under Isiah. This summer there's not much to do other than draft a top3 pick(fingers crossed!) And possibly use our MLE. Between Isiah, Billups and Tellem's connections we could get ourselves a nice player. So Billups would have the time to get his feet wet a little bit and probably starting next summer or even this years trade deadline. he could start to really put a stamp on things.
As for our coach its up to those two to figure out who they want. Budenholzer being the top guy right now but maybe they take a chance on a guy like Kenny Smith. I think he could be a great coach.
Anyways, go Pistons. Let's hope the draft gods hook us up tonight!

Magic is president of b-ball operations for Lakers. Isiah and Chauncey is something this franchise desperately needs. Bring back the culture and identity of our two championship eras. Isiah was horrible with the knicks but he did draft very well. I’m sure he’s learned from his mistakes and this job will be different for him. He is the Pistons. Plus having Chauncey as his GM will be an advantage. No guarantee it’ll succeed but what’s there to lose at this point?
Gores needs to get this right.

No ISIAH, he's a shady character and his GM history isn't good, just say no. Isiah was done when he tried to force Davidson's hand back in the day, just for that he needs to stay away from running the Pistons from now until eternity. Chauncey I think would be fine, I think he's impressive as a commentator, very well thought out views.

Based on his reaction to the Blake trade, I'm not sure Chauncey is the guy.

Great player and personality, but i'm not convinced he's ready to rebuild the Pistons.

"New York Knicks
When Isiah Thomas took over as the Knicks GM in 2003, the Knicks were 39-43, good enough for a playoff spot. By the end of the 2006 season, they had the league's highest salary -- $126 million, more than twice the NBA's salary cap and almost $30 million more than the second-place team, the Western Conference champion Dallas Mavericks -- and the league's second-worst record, 23-59. They also didn't have their own draft pick, because they traded it away for Eddy Curry.

Thomas was not fired as GM. He was instead promoted, becoming the team's coach as well as GM."

Sounds exactly like SVG, but only in reverse.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

Yeah that turns me off to Chauncey too. He sounds like SVG and Gores harping on Blake as an "all star" with no regard for what type of teams are winning in the NBA today.

He’s cool with Blake from his Clipper days and wasn’t about to trash the owner of the franchise he wants to work for. He had to say what he said.
He’d trade him in a deal that makes sense.

See issue with that comment is Blake isn't soft at all. He gets banged too often inside the paint is his problem. Just watch how hard he plays. It's nice
Defense wins championships
