NBA Draft - Win the Lottery (5/15/18) or #11?

Post#1 » by Chapelchilla » Mon May 14, 2018 3:56 pm

Well, I have not seen much chatter about tomorrows Draft Lottery so I thought we needed a thread - For when we Win this thing!
I have had a little sneaky feeling that we just might get lucky for a change and land in the top 3 for once.

Who would you pick at 1, 2 or 3?

I would love to land Doncic at one of the top 2 spots, I think we could use his creativity a lot. Otherwise a young big with + athleticism like Bagley or Ayton would be cool at the top of the Draft.

If we stay at 11 (hopefully not happening!) I would nab one the Bridges or maybe even another UK guard with a hyphenated last name - Shae Gilgeous-Alexander. I think his size, shooting and passing ability would make for a nice back up/future replacement for Kemba.

If we can get rid of Dwight's attitude and mega contract and hit on this pick for a change, I think we can get back into the playoffs this year......

We have a slightly less than 3 percent chance of landing a top 3 pick.

If we get lucky and beat the odds I'd take Doncic or Jaren Jackson.

Yeah, I know it's slim odds but I think we may be due for a break. Plus, the NBA may want to reward a non-tanking team with a little extra sizzle. Fingers crossed! Gonna break out the charms tomorrow.

Doncic would be one heckuva Hornet

I would love for the team to get a top 3 pick. Like LofJ, my top choices are Doncic and JJJ. If the team picks 3rd and those two guys are gone I honestly have no idea who to pick between Ayton, Bagley, etc. What I don't want is an old school big man that ends up not working out in the modern NBA.

If the team stays at 11 I would hope for Shai.

I'm in agreement that Dwight has to go. I would never wish him on a 1st year coach. I still feel that the most likely outcome is that he's waived or bought out, but the team might get lucky and be able to trade him.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

If we're at 3 and Doncic and J3 are off the board I hope we take a long look at Michael Porter. Athletic, 6'10 wings that can defend, shoot and rebound are hard to find. He played terrible, selfish basketball in his short stint back from injury. But I find it hard to believe that's his playstyle when his brother plays like he belongs with the Spurs. If his back checks out he will be the steal of the draft in my opinion.

As for the other guys I don't like Ayton's intangibles and we'd have to overhaul our roster to maximize Bagley's talents. I wouldn't feel comfortable with us properly developing either one of them.

And at 11 either Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or Troy Brown are my preferences.

Agree on all your points. If we get 3 and the top guards are gone maybe we can attach the pick to Dwight and trade back a few spots with Cleveland for Hill, Nance and their pick. That may be giving up too much for us, IDK maybe it works.

Those are my top three in order and SGA at 11 if he lasts that long.

The lottert is obviously rigg so with that being said i think we will be rewarded for not tanking like other teams do and give us the top 3. Alright guys pick wisely if we do get it.

Mitch has a pretty good draft record.

These guys versus the bust that was Javaris Crittenton and increasingly likely De'Angelo Russell is a pretty good track record:

Marc Gasol
Patrick Beverly
Brandon Ingram
Julius Randle
Andrew Bynum
Larry Nance
Jordan Farmar
Ronny Turiaf
Brian Cook
Luke Walton
Sasha Vujacic

I'm not sure the Russell is a bust, he played well for the Nets last year before he got hurt. The injury may do him though. I do think that Kupchak seems to have a better handle on the modern NBA then Clifford/Cho did, ironic considering he is the oldest of the bunch.

definitely not expecting us to get lucky, we haven't moved up even a spot in the draft since the Baron Davis draft in 1999 (13 to 3), but it would be a major boost to the franchise if we could. It appears it would be a fantastic draft to move down in too. A lot of great talent at the top, that other teams could offer major major value for.

I hope we see some trades prior to the draft. Without knowing what the roster looks like, the draft will be a tricky one.

One thing that Mitch talked about in the pre-Hornets interview with Woj was making sure that he was up to date on modern NBA trends.

I guarantee you if we end up jumping in the lottery the media is going to declare whoever we pick a bust before they ever step on an NBA court. It would be so gratifying for a player we draft to finally blow up and shut down the disdainful rhetoric that is always directed at MJ and the Hornets. If we somehow land Doncic the Adam Morrison hot take comparisons are going to be all over the internet the instant his name is called. I want to be able to justify a never ending FU to these people.

As long as the Lakers pick doesn't get top 3, I'm cool with the outcome. Just would hate to see Philly or Boston get a top 3 pick.

Only Van damme can get us in the top 3

What if Cleveland's BRK pick jumps again? Would anybody even be surprised by that result?
