I take no issue with the young guys on this team playing and winning games.

good call, why did we sign both of them if we were planning to tank?

And Dedmon wasn't even on the trade market at the deadline.

That's what I mean by mixed messages. I thought all parties involved knew this was probably the last opportunity to tank and get a top pick with Silver pushing Lottery reform after this season. If you're going to tank, do it right and stop being all wishy washy about it. When you're not fully committed to the tank, it just drags the rebuilding process out longer. I can't make sense of this organization right now.

I doubt both will have a future on our roster.
Also, as long as the return is a positive one, I have no issue with anybody getting moved. We don't have untouchable talent. John Collins would command the highest return and is the player I prefer to keep going forward.

I agree its been confusing.

When Schlenk said we were "retooling" and not rebuilding I didn’t think it made much sense. I kinda figured that he just said that to appease the new fans that jumped on from 2015. If we came in and said, nope we are gonna tear it down and build it back up different…there goes all the fans we gained. Also, I guess, it was a sticky situation with Bud making those decisions before him and still being here. I think they tried to ease their way to communicating the rebuild but knew it was a necessity all along. I mean…we all knew it was a necessity as soon as Horford left.

My guess is that the double talk and contradictions is because he didn’t want to isolate Bud and a large base of the Hawks fans who fell in love with the Spurs of the East. Not to mention that a Philly style tank has been pretty much outlawed in the NBA. We had to go about this carefully. IMO its always best to be up front and I think they botched it up pretty bad. Still I think its still early to have a verdict on Schlenk. It seems probable that the doubletalk was actually an effort to keep Budenholzer from bolting outright also. Bud seemed happy when they were “retooling” I think all of this “retooling” talk may have been to keep Bud around until they felt they could get him on board with the rebuild that was obviously necessary to everyone. It didn’t work and Bud wanted out.

That’s my optimistic opinion of everything at least. Yall are free to prove me wrong.

So, is being lied to and watching a contradiction circus less disappointing than just stating the truth?

Alot of people here and elsewhere where nt convinced it was time to rebuild after Horf; see DH and lots of fan posts. Also see Sap walking for nothing (no trade).....what was that?

I don't really care if Bud liked the idea of rebuilding. Bud POBO had a big hand in putting the Hawks in this unavoidable rebuild situation. Bud and Schlenck should have made sure they were on the same page from the beginning. Did they need over a year to find out they wanted to go in opposite directions???

Hawks are still looking a mess.

I agree, with you. as stated above, I believe they should have been up front at the beginning. Honesty is always best. Hopefully now we can move forward, because youre right..this seems to be a mess that could have been avoided.

I don't think there was a contradiction. The clear message was rebuild but establishing enough of a culture by having enough vets around to learn from and possibly used in a trade. Not a Philly style rebuild where the most senior rotation members from day one were GLeaguers.

That plan was working fine, the team was competitive yet sitting with the worst record in the league up until midway through January when other teams turned on their tank and Bud began coaching wins against Denver, San Antonio, New Orleans, Minnesota, to go along other teams the Hawks were tanking against. That stretch alone constituted over a quarter of the team's wins, the objective was being lost and that's when guys were being put on the block, released, sat down for injury and the GLeague floodgates were busted open.

I can't help but feel like Bud did this intentionally. That is NOT cool. :x
