As for the basketball side of things, he talked about the importance of the 3-point line. Emphasized especially that they'll try to get John Collins to shoot 3s at both a higher volume and a higher clip. Same with Dennis Schroder.

Haha. @jamall was fully on-board until he read that. Took about 45 minutes.

I am disappointed. I wanted us to turn the guy into LaMarcus Aldridge 2.0.

But I guess I have to get over it.

Heh, nice to see you're taking it so well.

At some point, are you gonna allow yourself to accept that the whole "C's shootin' 3's" thing wasn't and isn't solely a Coach Buttz concoction?

I don't think you ever fully understood the argument.

Spoiler:
I'm not crazy about Centers shooting threes.

But when Horford started doing it, and his rebounding worsened and his FG% plummeted as a result...the accusation was thrown out by 'our mutual friend' that Horford was camping out on the perimeter of his own accord. That this wasn't the coaching staff's desire...but instead "Alice" willfully disregarding the game plan to jack threes.

I insisted that while I hated A-Ho doing it, it was clearly at the behest of the coaching staff. I couldn't have imagined Horford going all 'Josh Smith' and jacking up threes against the will of the coach.

Separately, D-12 got benched last playoffs and Bud stated it was, in part, to open up the floor and improve spacing. A few weeks after that, Dwight announced he was practicing 3 pointers. I saw this completely as cause and effect.
I can't play you because you don't shoot threes. Then you immediately start practicing shooting threes.

But as is often the CASE with our mutual friend...despite copious amounts of evidence compiled over multiple years, the argument changed from a legit basketball question...into me being a stalker or something. IDK.

And then into me vs Budenholzer

But, yes, I realized a few years ago that this new trend was encroaching the league. Much to my chagrin.

it is worth noting that the starting centers on 4 of the last 6 championship teams were: Zaza, Tristan Thompson and Tiago Splitter. I take that to mean that if there is enough shooting elsewhere on the floor, strong, inside, defensive players can still thrive in the post season.

Hey, don't @Bob me, I understand your issue(s). We are in agreement that there's still a place for real "bigs". Gotta be the right mix/scenario though.

Obviously, the goal is to improve Dennis' 3-pt shot. But even if we can just continue to up his mid-range %, that could lead to an improvement in his efficiency and production.

Just knockdown the 15-18 footer off the dribble at a high rate and teams will struggle to contain him in the pick and roll.

Pierce’s Hawks candidacy was buoyed by working with GM Travis Schlenk for part of one season in Golden State. Pierce was hired by the Warriors in December 2010 after Stephen Silas left for a position with the Hornets. Head coach Mark Jackson didn’t retain Pierce for the next season.

Pierce said. “Good days will add up and that’s going to be our focus moving forward. I don’t think any of the guys on the roster think they’ve played their best basketball yet. It’s all going to be about focused on their growth. How can I help them? How can they help other players? ‘Superstar players,’ that stuff comes later.”

Gray skies are gonna clear up...eventually.

NOTE: I find it very interesting that M Jackson only kept him on staff for a single year. And that Trav was able to build usch esteem and kinship for the young man in such a brief time.

I have no idea what to do with that.

That...is a handsome man.

(Trav certainly seems to think so.)

What stood out in the new Atlanta Hawks coach's introductory press conference?

‘The timing is right’

The 42-year-old Pierce is getting his first chance to be a head coach, but that opportunity wasn’t the only reason why he’s coming to Atlanta. Pierce started the press conference by detailing several of the Hawks’ characteristics that drew him to the team and convinced him to leave Philadelphia after five years:

-Pierce said. “[There’s] a talented, young roster with a lot of opportunities in the draft to advance the program and the organization.

-You look at the facility [the Emory Sports Medicine Complex] that we’re in now. It’s a beautiful practice court.

-The renovations that are occurring down at [Philips Arena]

-bringing the G-League team [to College Park] a year from now and bringing everything together

Pierce will be helped by the fact the Hawks have four of the first 34 picks in this year’s draft, including three in the first round

Anybody know what his mid-range numbers look like for last season. We all know his 3pt percentage is abysmal.

Any word on his staff yet? I'd love to see Casey on the bench to help CLP get his sea legs under him. Would be a short-term assignment since Casey's likely to HC again, but our guy needs a vet presence to help. What's ol' crogedy Lionel Hollins doing these days?

Dennis shot 47.7% from 15-19 feet in both seasons since becoming a starter.
NBA.com

For context, Rondo shot 25% on similar shots -- but only took a handful.
Rozier shot 46.7% on similar shots, but took much fewer.
Chris Paul shot 44% on similar shots, but took much fewer.
DeAaron Fox shot 40% on a comparable number of mid range shots.

Bledsoe shot 42%
Kemba shot 43%.
Kyrie shot 49%
Horford shot 49%

Steph Curry shot 61% from 15-19 feet. :o

How about Nash? I guess he's enjoying life too much to bother with coaching
