Also - Capela's potential is maxxed out in Houston, he's extremely lucky to be in that situation, if he played for someone like Sacramento his 2k rating would be in the low 70s still :P

Nope, it wasn’t.

Always been a Williams skeptic and after not progressing offensively, my expectations for him are even lower.

Lob catcher, decent hands and some passing feel but lacking otherwise on O and has some IQ, technique and physicality issues that make me think his D won't be nearly as valuable in the nba as it was in college. Towns is a good case study here. Williams is bit more fluid and athletic, but both have narrow and weak lower body's, shaky fundamentals and too much spazz in their general movement.

Williams will be helped by not having near the role/load to take on offensively, but is also smaller w/ lower IQ on D.

A lower defensive IQ than KAT? Is that even possible? :shudders:

Texas A&M isn’t know for their coaching. I was really down on him earlier in the year and I watched a ton of Texas A&M games this year. IMO their coaching isn’t just bad, it’s really bad. They pound defensive drills and that’s pretty much it. Both on offense and defense Williams improved so much. Later in the year he was both a much better defender and better on offense. His offense lacks a lot and needs a lot of work, but mostly with understanding what his game is. He tries too hard to post up and pass, but that isn’t his game. He also hasn’t had a point guard he can roll with. His athleticism and length say he could put two and two together and figure it out at the next level. Defensively, when he tries, he’s a beast. Slides really well, gets down in great defensive stance, and shadows whoever he’s guarding. And if they pass him he chases them down with his wingspan and towers over with his athleticism to get the ball out of there. Keep in mind he’s also playing beside another center, who also likes to defend inside. In the NBA defensively and offensively he’ll have so much space and will fit a role much better. I would bet he’s a different player in the NBA.

If I'm the Clippers though I'm not even worried about "finding a DeAndre replacement".

Not saying that RW couldn't be a good pick for them as well but their first concern since they just lost their 2 biggest stars n what seems like a probable unsuccessful off season luring FAs should be simply to get the BPAs at their picks. If that's Williams, sure take him! He might be one of em. But I'd definitely be taking a long look at players like Knox, Kostas or whatever other high upside player there might be in that range because ultimately you want to have a star player in LA to lure others in the future not plug holes into an incomplete roster as it is.

Oh, I agree. I would personally go for the player with the highest ceiling. I want the guy with superstar potential and I think Knox fits that mold. However, if they do end up selecting Williams, I just wanted to know if he would be able to fill the void should DJ leave.

I don’t think that he’ll fill the void should DJ leave. I’m hoping the Clippers draft 7’1” Mitchell Robinson to do that.
I do think that he can fill the void left by the Blake Griffin trade. Clippers don’t have a legitimate power forward. I think having two shot blockers like Mitchell Robinson and Robert Williams makes the Clippers stronger. These are two guys who can take a year or two to develop, and then after that, I think the Clippers will have something special.
