I appreciate everybody's passion on here.
and I agree with a lot of you.
My thing is Summer league is the place where everybody in the NBA is in the summer. free agent buzz etc. Wouldn't you want to be showcasing your guys how much they've improved. people talk players talk and if a guy sucks. they are going to say it.
The thing that concerns me is Do the Lakers feel like they have to hide Lonzo and think he won't be able to score and ball against dudes on the street. do they think dudes on the street will make him look like trash?
eventually you are going to have to play the guy.
And NBA guys need summer league. Summer league is where you can find a lot of your game and work on things.
For example with Lonzo I would tell him every summer league game I want you taking 25 shots. regardless if you score I want you taking those shots. I want you getting into the grove of taking those shots and being the lead guy. so when Training camp comes you have the Swag.
Basketball is simple like that. any bit of timid thinking am I going to score am I good enough. you will get cooked. You need to get that confidence in summer league. cause in training camp with Ingram George Randle Kuzma it's not going to be about taking those shots. you gotta find those guys. at least in summer league he can be aggressive work on things he's been working on pull ups Runners stuff like that. Floaters stuff like that.
You gotta hone your skills there. I point to Kevin Martin. couldn't get off the bench. got to summer league was like 25 30 points a game. and was about 24 points to 25 points a game the next season. Crazy shot just like Lonzo worked on it perfect his craft. and became a great scorer.
So when you look at a guy like Lonzo kind of the same height with his ability. The Staff Magic Rob Luke should be prudent about him being at Summer league.
Taytum Mithcell those guys are stars. and Yeah everybody is saying how great Taytum is and he's great and how we should've taken him.
Damn that's Booker Taytum Come on Lakers. but Back to Lonzo he's not a Taytum it doesn't come to him when he steps on the court like Taytum is a great shooter. Lonzo has to work on that to get there. he can be great. but working on that is what he needs to do and places like Summer league is where he should be doing.
It's like his peers Taytum and Mithcell aren't going so he's like well if I go I look like a scrub. no you want to get better. you should be always getting better. take the Leadership role. lead the rookies. that's where you get stuff like that. I've seen it. You lead the huddle the warmups. you become the lead guy. so when Training camp guys know what you've been doing with the team.

If Lonzo wants to prove himself go to Rucker, go to the Drew ... NBA eyes see that **** and respect it much more which is why Kobe and KD to name a few did it.

Would anyone say no to Ball for #1 or #2 this year? I think i'd do it if we can land Doncic.

Yeah Magic will say no. Also no more rebuilding, and no more giving away PG's

A good preview of what Laker trainer wants to work with BI, Hart and Zo.

LONZO BALL
Peterson: In terms of what we’ll work on, it’s overall strength, core strength, ankle stability and joints, just like the other young guys. Connective tissue strength, ligament tendon stability. For these guys, with their body length, you think about it like building a building. You’re supporting a structure as it’s going up. The foundation has to be strong, and the welds are solid, or else the higher you go, the more risk you have. And for the rookies especially, they’re tripling the work load and travel load from college.
Zo had some injuries, and during the season, he couldn’t just not lift, so we worked around it. I’m a fan of working around, not working through. If we can keep him working and change something to get him stronger, that’s the idea. So you may shift some of the movements to unilateral. You may shift some of the movements to body supported, or to single joint movement so it’s not going to affect the injured area. You can regress it if it’s a movement that requires weight, you go from body weight first, then progress to bands and eventually barbells, dumbbells, whatever the exercise may require. You just have to be careful. These guys are human beings, but also investments by the team, and you can’t have an ego where ‘We’re getting through my program no matter what’ to the detriment of the team.
BRANDON INGRAM
Peterson: We’ll keep working on overall strength. On ankle stability. Any guy with long levers, that ankle is holding up a big structure. Then knee stability, core strength and keep getting the body weight up a little bit. If he performs well and avoids injuries, at the end of the day, we don’t care if he weights 200 or 220 pounds.
But Brandon is way stronger than he looks. You don’t have to be built like Karl Malone to be strong. There are thinner guys who are really strong. Kevin Durant, who I used to work with, has real strength to his body. And Brandon is no stranger to the weight room. He does everything we ask of him and more. He’s a worker. If you look at pictures of him from his rookie year to the end of this year, you’ll see a noticeable difference. Some of that is a young man growing up, and some is his work in the weight room and attention to diet. He’s doing what it takes. Let’s look at him when he should be peaking as an NBA player – whether that’s 25, 26, 27 – and see what he looks like then. It will be greatly different from what he looked like as a rookie. Assuming the size and strength he puts on is done in a controlled and intelligent manner, which it is here, he should have fewer injuries … but some injuries just happen.

Ironic thing is they never did that with DLO.
Even with his knee problems, etc, they wanted him on the court asap. With Lonzo, it's a whole different approach.

Your right they never did that with Dlo.
I would've liked to see Magic put his arm around Dlo and show him the ropes. with his ability. I think Magic would've been great for him.
That's why I wanted us to keep him. you see what the Celtics are doing with all their young players. and that's what happens when you keep young talent and develop it. for some reason we wanted to just trade all of our young talent. and not let the guys develop together. but if we would've kept everyone together with Ball we would've had that team the Celtics have.
To this season. Yes you trade ball for a number one two pick if there is a player you really like. Ayton is that dude. I think Trae Young is that dude.
And if I were the Lakers I would still work out Trae Young.
as an organization you have to be honest with yourselves. the fans aren't in the building they don't see practice everyday. they don't know what these guys are saying. if you really think Lonzo Ball is not the guy. then you move him now while you can get something for him and don't get stuck with him.
I think our team is set. We do need a scoring guard. there is one guy in this draft who's a scoring guard. who has superstar written all over him and his name is Trae Young. just a guy in my opinion who can fill up a stat sheet. shooting three's runners. can get the ball to others. can penetrate. he has range you like. and he has a good handle. he's a way more advanced scorer then Ball. I think Michael Porter is an exceptional player I would trade for Ball. A guy who I think can be a superstar small forward in this league with his ability to shoot and score.
That's a Laker thing. they gotta be real with the team they think they have. Ingram star shows he can score. Kuzma star shows he can score. Lonzo Ball. has ability. he has to show he can score and this summer he has to work on all of that. So I'll leave it up to you all in here. take your fandom out of it. Your just a basketball Talent evaluator put your Jerry West hat on. What is Lonzo Ball Now. What do you think he can be. What are you investing in him. See I would trade him unless he gave me what I saw against San Antonio and Golden State. and I would be honest with him. Dude you gotta be aggressive with that ball. you gotta be aggressive shooting that ball. Point Guards in the NBA today HAVE TO BE ABLE TO SCORE ANY WHERE ON THE COURT. you saw what happened to Rondo. you gotta be able to score.

There's no source. Cousins just supposedly unfollowed the Pelicans and started following a bunch of players including Paul George and Julius Randle. Then the Cousins to Lakers think just turned into a rumor.

I think Cousins has a lot to prove in this league, however, I don't know if I want him to do this on the Lakers. Especially coming off an achilles tear. That's a rough injury for athletes, even the freak ones. Amplified by the amount of weight he is carrying around each day due to his sheer size.

Cousins? He's a wait and see guy. We should wait and see what the market is, then make a determination. Well wait and see If he can be had for peanuts, knowing injury history.

Would have to sign him if he's available of course. I mean imagine rocking a lineup of George, Kawhi/Lebron and Cousins, especially if we have our young core in tact. We'd be contenders surely.

The problem with that is Cousins isn't going to go for peanuts. He may get under the max, but even if the market is set to that standard, a team can very well pay a max deal to grab him.
The problem with him is that while he's talented enough to warrant a max deal, you need to make sure that you have your locker room right, to include your head coach, before signing him. He got a fresh start in NOLA and look how long that apparently lasted if you put stock into his actions on social media. Do you want Ingram, Ball, and Randle around that?
