Rubio and his agent warned certain teams not to draft him or else he wouldnt come over. The Wolves didnt listen and ended up waiting 2 years for him to finally give in.
Porzingis and his agent forced his way to the Knicks (When the Sixers were really interested in him).
We were told that Bogdonovic wouldnt be coming over, after 2 years we traded him to the Kings and all of a sudden he was more than fine to finally come to the NBA.
These things happen!

Re: The Ayton & Doncic Conspiracy Thread
Yeah the odds of this are so extraordinarily small that it's almost not even worth talking about.
We could grab Noah/#9 for Chandler/Daniels/#16/#31
We'd have to pawn Warren/Chriss/#9/Bucks Pick for Parson/#4
We'd then have to grab Randolph/#2 for Dudley/#4/Suns 2019 First/Heat 2021 First/Suns 2019 2nd
Resign Payton for 3/36
We'd roll with:
Ayton/Sauce/Noah
Bender/Randolph
Jackson/Parsons
Booker/Reed/Knight
Doncic/Payton/Ulis
The rest of the nba would have to believe that Doncic would ONLY play for us forever.
Randolph coming off the books offsets Booker's extension. But we'd have to rely on Parsons/Knight being healthy for a couple of years. And Ayton/Doncic/Jackson would need to be stars.
It wouldn't be terrible salary-wise for us. We'd have Noah/Knight/Parsons ($60mil) expiring in 2020.
The odds are terrible....but I could live with it

Re: The Ayton & Doncic Conspiracy Thread
I think it would be easier to settle for a Doncic + 2nd Best Big in the draft.
1. While we framed the whole discussion around Ayton x Doncic, there is a relatively high chance that Ayton is not the best big in this class in a couple of years from now. JJJ, MPJ (although not a traditional big) and Bamba could all be more valuable than him, and maybe (forcing it a little) Wendell Carter and Mitchell Mystery Robinson can pose a threat as well.
2. It is so damn unlikely that we can snatch pick two away from SAC and make Doncic fall further than that. But it looks feasible to me to get that pick 4 from Memphis.
3. At pick 4, either Bamba or JJJ (hopefully him) will be available.
So I would be just as happy if we could walk away from thia with Doncic at #1 and JJJ. Well, not as happy, but pretty happy as well. And that is much more likely than the scenario brought up so far
It might take a little longer for JJJ to cause an impact similar to Ayton, but he could eventually surpass him in WS because of defense.
And we would have to wait another year or two anyway to unload all the bad contracts gained by moving up and become competitive, so we might need that extra patience.

I think Memphis would offer Gasol and #4 pick for #2 and a couple players.
Atlanta would offer Schroder and #3, maybe even further draft considerations (swap in one or two years) for #2 and a couple players.
What would we have to offer to beat those?
I think it would be #16, #31, #59, Bender or TJ, 2019 1st rounder unprotected, and one of the two 2021 first round picks that are owned by us. Do we want to offer such a killer package? Are we sure even this would beat the above offers? I don't think so...
The idea is to strike well before the draft. Go after the Grizzlies pick HARD! Iw we walk into the draft on draft day with the #1 and #4 picks it would be a cakewalk to get Luka. His agent (Who also happens to be Aytons Agent...who also happens to be Nash's agent) would know what we are planning on doing and would lay it on the line for SAC/ATL that Doncic will not play for them. It happens more than people know. Sac might be a bit mad, but they will be fine with Bagley or Bamba. ATL too. Its going to cost a ton to get the pick from Memphis (Warren/Chriss/#16/2019 1st unprotected/2020 Bucks 1st Unprotected/2021 Miami 1st unprotected for #4/Parsons) so if SAC or ATL try to call out bluff to trade him to us, they know that we just spent all assets to get the #4, and therefor have none left to give to them. So they can be really screwed. We could be too if they do take Doncic anyways, but we would still have the #4 pick to draft whoever else we want (Or use in a trade for a star player if need be).
The question is, if the Kings FO really going to gamble on Doncic coming over or not. I see the Kings fans like to mention Bogdan Bogdanovic and how people didnt think he would come over but he did, yet they fail to realize the we spent 2 years trying to get him to come over and kept refusing (Just like Doncic can do to them for us). SO does Divac roll the dice and take him anyways and end up missing the rest of the top talent that will be there, or does he just say F Doncic, and go for the guy who is fine being there and will be there from day one, who is also top tier talent?
Doncic better be the second coming of Christ for that package and return.

Re: The Draft Thread: Ayton Vs Doncic 1
Not sure if this was discussed yet. On NBA radio they discussed Doncic saying he may not come out.
The discussion from the hosts was centered around if this could be him trying to get himself to the team he wants.
In otherwords, Phoenix telling Doncic or his agent, "we want you but want to move down a couple spots and get more assets to make it happen."
I could see the Suns picking Ayton first. Then, if Doncic isn't taken by the Kings, we work to already have deals in place to trade with either Atlanta (more likely since they're in the East) or Memphis perhaps.
I would be curious how much a team would give up to move a few spots to nab him so we got Luca.
This could also be why that "report" about him being a pouter or whiny kid surfaced out of nowhere.

Re: The Ayton & Doncic Conspiracy Thread
The only team I could see realistically considering moving their pick would be Memphis, simply because they can still compete with the roster they have. They get a slew of picks from us (16, next years unprotected, Bucks, heat 2021) along with a player who may be able to help them now and we land Doncic.
That would be McDonoughs last hurrah where his job would rely on Ayton and Doncic (neither of which can play D along with Booker). I dunno.

Any chance we can acquire PapaG from the Blazers this off season to include as filler to get the Kings #2 pick? Think Divac would bite?

Re: The Ayton & Doncic Conspiracy Thread
IMO there is not a chance that Phoenix can go from #16 into the Top 5. The cost would be more than they could afford or should even want to pay.
It would be a different story if they had held on to the Lakers pick and could throw a package of #10, #16, TJ Warren and a future 1st at a team but that obviously isn't happening.

Re: The Ayton & Doncic Conspiracy Thread
The price of the Memphis pick.
1. A useful player.
2. A pick in this draft.
3. A future pick with a real shot at the brass ring.
4. An additional asset.
I think teams are more intrigued with Bender right now than Warren. They see the unicorn potential and understand his age. They would want Bender, but I would try to send them Warren. #16. Suns unconditional first next year. Milwaukee pick. I think that would be in the range, especially with the new lottery odds next year.
Not sure I want to give up our pick next year.

Re: The Ayton & Doncic Conspiracy Thread
The Memphis Grizzlies caught a bad break in the NBA Draft Lottery, dropping to No. 4 in the draft order from their projected slot at No. 2.
As that likely means missing out on both of their preferred targets in Deandre Ayton and Luka Doncic, there's a sense around the league that the Grizzlies would be willing to trade the fourth overall pick, according to Sean Deveney of Sporting News.
"If you have someone you like in the first few picks, they're the first call you'd make," a rival general manager told Deveney. "They, obviously, were the most disappointed with the way the lottery went and the options they have now. It seems like they want to try to turn that pick into something else.
"Everyone's going to talk before the draft, of course. But Memphis, I think they're the ones who are going to be more ready to do something than others."
Whether they'd be looking to deal the pick for established NBA talent, or a package of picks or long-term assets, is unclear. But the Grizzlies' reticence is understandable; the draft process has not been at all fruitful for the franchise in recent years. In the past decade, exactly two of their draftees (Dillon Brooks and Jarell Martin) have turned into serviceable rotation players in Memphis, with the jury still out on Deyonta Davis and Ivan Rabb. Seven of their last eight first-round picks lasted less than two full seasons with the club.
In other words, just about any other team would likely make better use of the No. 4 pick than the Grizzlies.
I knew they would be the ones!

Yup, thats why you trade for the pick well before the draft. They think Doncic wont be there, but he forces himself to be passed by the Kings and Hawks, and then he is all ours!

As long as it does not include JJ or Booker or Ayton.....I’d give up the farm...maybe a three way. Doncic talks his way into falling or trading the number 4 with Sac if we have some left over assets after getting number 4.
Trading away next year’s unprotected is cool because it’s like you are cashing it in on this draft. 16 expendable Miami Milwaukee our 2021 Warren Chris Bender.....
