definitely not in shape, but somebody will probably still pick him in the late first if they think it's just a matter of needing a pro diet etc.

As a Warriors fan, I'll take him and laugh all the way to our next 3 championships.

He's like a C version of Kyle Anderson. Wherever he goes, he's going to spend a year or two in the G League getting into shape and sharpening his skills. Which isn't really a problem considering he should only just now be finishing high school.

Don't know if he'll really fall that far or into the early 2nd but having the worst conditioning of anyone at the combine can't be ignored nor should it be something that teams would overlook including GSW despite the really efficient offensive game he brings to the table, I mean how in the heck is he going to withstand the rigors of an 82 game season etc

He has gotten in a lot better shape the last few years, not to mention he's the youngest player in the class. Also there are plenty of "fat" bigs who got in shape, including #23 on the Warriors. Not to mention Kevin Love, Marc Gasol, Nikola Jokic. It's one of the biggest inefficiencies in the Draft process (no pun intended).

But whatever.

To be fair, they could draft me and we could both laugh all the way to our next 3 championships

Looks like he's going back to school.

All he has to do is get into excellent shape and he could go lottery next year.

Because it's not life-changing money to go top 40 (especially not when his brother is going to be making millions and his dad is earning a comfortable salary for his ability to spawn good basketball players), and if he's as good as you think he can come back and be a top-5 pick next year. And he'd get to do all that with his dad coaching him.

He's not ready physically. Just needs to get in shape, show more impact at his size, and up his motor.

I'm guessing he didn't get any 1st round guarantees, so he went back. Top 40 isn't enough... he'll be a 2nd rounder next year no matter what.
I think people overrated him a bit from the start. In this scenario, I think it's perfectly fine for someone like Jontay to go back a year. Work on slimming down and improving his body.

i get the angle on not been ready physically, but come on, Mizzou ain't a pro team that is gonna get him there either, I think he just doesn't feel ready, I just don't like the Tigers roster at all, gonna be hard for him to improve in that enviroment

If recent history is any guide, playing for a mediocre or worse college team does not prevent players from being chosen high in the draft.

Yup, there was a press release. I'm surprised if no team made him a 1st round guarantee. If I was a GM picking 25 or later (and higher than that for teams in need of a center), I would have made him a guarantee.

Must be betting on himself to go in the lottery next year.

I think teams in the 20s in this Draft made a mistake. Atlanta has 3 picks, could have easily given him a promise, for example. Maybe they want to trade up, but they could have honestly ended up with JJJ, Huerter, and Jontay and won the Draft hands down.

Atlanta doesn’t want slow players, they want to run. The issue is a lot of teams want to run.

I think it's a fair point, but like do teams think Wendell Carter is going to run? Or Bamba?
