Front office has quite the juggling act this July. Sounds like Randle and his agent are ready to shop for the best deal around.

If they let him go and both LeBron and PG aren't walking through that door...I am not sure what I will do. He's done everything they've asked. Transformed his body, became one of the best defenders in space in the game, grew his offensive game, and really.. became a a major contributor on both ends of the floor.

Also, in the FO's defense, he doesn't necessarily need to be a priority right now. It's probably a bit smart to let the market dictate his deal, however that could backfire fairly easily.

Mintz is also PG’s agent.

And yet that quote was in direct response to this:

Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka told The Times on Friday that the Lakers' front office is constantly in touch with Julius Randle's representatives, and there has been "a mutual exchange of interest and hoping that we can work something out for both sides."

I'm sure there IS interest and that Rob doesn't give up his ability to get him at an amount less than RFA max.

But yeah, Rob don't make this your first big F-up. I'd rather have PG and Randle than something like taking a chance on a damaged cancer for max.

Looks like a hard hedge in the negotiation process.

Its going to be interesting to watch Mintz balance how long George takes to arrive at his decision and keeping Randle patient and happy in the summer.

If PG13 isnt coming to the Lakers, Mintz is probably going to extract the maximum amount of money for the maximun amount of years from the Lakers for Randle.

Mintz actually holds alot of the cards. Much like the New England situation with Grappolo and BRady, the agent can manuver to get the best deals and best situation for his clients.

How does that make you better than the Lin, Gallo, and Wil fans who root for them over NY?

you know how every summer every free agent's camp uses the Lakers as leverage to raise their clients stock, what's the difference here?

The problem with the Mavs is that both Barnes and Randle would occupy the same space and if they draft Bamba........Not sure how those 3 guys would function offensively...

Shame if we lose him for nothing. Definitely should have tried getting an asset back for him.

He should not be. He is not a franchise player. He is not an all star. He is not an all nba talent. He has not won games or make us a contender alone.

He needs to check his ego, it’s like them all asking for a voice to talk about what it takes to win with their team meeting, that **** is laughable.

George, James, Kawhi, Towns should all be priorities not people like randle ... know your plade

I dont get why Randle wasn't traded especially as a package deal to get rid of Deng's contract because im sure the lakers fo knew that he wanted to get paid and be "valued."

IF the lakers get the big names, no point resigning randle and probably no money as well.

However, if the lakers dont sign big names, are you really going to invest big on randle as your key piece to the future.

His agent (who also represents PG) is holding most of the cards this summer. In a way the situation will be dictated by him more than us. If he brings PG to us on day 1. We can then look at options differently.

I know people will criticize the FO if we don't sign him for losing him with no return. But you have to remember there was time when they were thinking of trading Randle but then didn't because he upped his game to a point where they thought keeping him for now and then having the option to match whatever the market dictates for him in the summer is a risk worth taking. I totally agree with this line of thinking.

Cap space has to be treated like its sacred. No matter how much of it you have. I get it..... Jules is our favorite since day one. You can see that every time you go to Staples and hear the players names being announced. My thinking is that Maginka haven't locked us into one set plan for this summer yet. We probably have 2 or 3 directions in which we can go depending on how the first domino falls. I wouldn't be surprised at all if we end up with Jules back on this tea. He's earned it and he belongs here too. And I wouldn't be surprised if we have to go in another direction to make this team better. In which case we will wish him the best and root for him to succeed wherever he goes because he's a good dude.

Our biggest worry should be if Mintz wants to be spiteful towards us for not maxing out Randle and steering PG13 to another team like PHI. If PG13 isnt 100% hellbent on coming to LA, then this is a potential catastrophic event that can hit us, and then forcing us to match a max offer sheet for Randle otherwise we lose talent, a truly lose lose situation for the Lakers.

Best case scenario is that we're working WITH Mintz to help Randle get the biggest contract he can get. Mintz hand delivers us PG13 in the 1st week, helping set the tone of the FA market early. Then we float out rumors that we love Randle and want to keep him on a reasonable deal, that a max deal is our breaking point. Then Mintz using these rumors to get Dallas to panic and instead of offering a reasonable 4 year 60-72 mil type of deal, they go over the top and go full max for Randle. Maginka cry public tears how we're losing this promising young man, but that we cant commit to such a deal and wanting to give Kuz a chance, and wish Ju the best for his career. While in the backroom Maginka and Mintz celebrate on a job well done all around and that in the future, hopefully more fruitful cross purpose opportunities may present itself. Dallas will be left holding the bag on a maxxed out Randle :D

Mintz only has to worry that there's no market for Randle. He better not misjudge like Noel and his camp did last year and thus leaving Randle with nothing but a QO on the table or worse yet a long term MLE type deal that the Lakers would gleefully match.

The Lakers have every reason to slow play the Randle situation. No point offering a contract at all, anything too big gets accepted and whacks our cap space, anything too small can be seen as an "insult" from the Randle camp and potentially sour relations. Just wait and see what the market bears

This offseason is literally gonna be for all the marbles for where the Lakers go. Maginka better not **** up.

Bundling up Randle and Deng was always a tough task because Randle is headed for restricted free agency. So if Randle makes just $15 mil a year, you are asking a team to pay $33 mil a year the next two seasons for Randle/Deng. Tough sell. Esp if the team can just try to sign Randle in free agency with Lakers looking for bigger fish.

If I was Rob Pelinka, I would be making it clear to Randle that once LeBron and George are gone and off the board, he's the number 1 priority.

I was actively hoping there would be progressive dialogue at least stating the pecking order to Mintz and Randle.

If Lebron/PG dont come to LA, the Lakers should focus their attention onto to a Randle/Cousins frontcourt duo and let Lopez walk.
