Re: The Offseason Of Redemption. Lakers Rumors, Trades, Signings 2018.
Has anyone else noticed how much Magic and Rob are sending messages about physical fitness, about player “commitment to improving their bodies”. It followed the fine for tampering, after which Magic said that “we have to message the players we want in other ways, talk about the things that would resonate with those players”, something along those lines. LBJ spends a million a year on his body. So it seems that’s been their plan for LBJ. We’ll see if it works. I think they expect to get PG, and when they heard of KAT, everyone suddenly became available. I expect some big moves this summer.
Since the 1976 merger LAL 11, CHI 6, BOS 6, SAS 5, GSW 4
PG: Luka / Vincent / Smith
SG: Reaves / Knecht / Bronny
SF: Smart / LaRavia / Thiero

For once.... we have assets and we have money at the same time..... and we have the largest fan base..... oh... and we have owners that live off the team and want to be back in the spotlight and all of the $$ that brings. Seems like a confluence of circumstances that would support big change.

Which is ironic because KAT has alot of work to do on his body.

**** KAT. It's 2018, gimme a role player who busts his ass rebounding, defending the rim and the P&R well, while not bitching about offensive involvement. It's a perimeter oriented game now, the days in which you got your scoring from the post are long gone.
At least if you want to win anything.
We need the next Gobert/Capela/Green. We can get that through the draft if done properly, neither was a high pick.

Re: The Offseason Of Redemption. Lakers Rumors, Trades, Signings 2018.
Honestly, it's a little hard to take this extreme focus on physical fitness seriously considering our best players were plagued by injuries last season...
I go back and forth... I think this is Magic and Rob trying to instill a little of that Kobe work ethic in the young guys and hoping it translates to other aspects of their game as well... Which is OK I guess, but the way it's been presented seems a little superficial and myopic...
Every one of these young guys is in better shape than Magic was when he played... It's not all about physiology... These kids have glaring skill deficits they need to work on... So while I don't disagree with the concept of increasing physical fitness leads to better on court performance, I'm a little tired of hearing it used as the default number one concern... It's starting to sound a bit like a marketing pitch for that part-time celebrity trainer we hired...

I think of the "fitness" stuff like the NFL combine. It's a distraction from guys who can play and a way for guys who aren't that good to get noticed.

I feel its something Magic borrowed from Riley's insistence on sapping fitness drills. Miami Heat still have the same demands with Riley as president.

I think it's a little dumb.
The whole fitness thing is something they over do and to still be talking about it after last season is just reckless.
let's look at how many guys on the team came up with ankles stuff like that Ingram Lonzo.
Do they push these guys too hard?
Basketball is about making jumpshots and playing defense.
We can talk about all this extra crap all we want. But until Lonzo turns into a good shooter great shooter and can be a scoring guard none of this other stuff is going to matter.
We want to hear about guys making shots. Ingram has improved as a scorer. With Lonzo that whole team needs to make sure he can shoot and score. show him shooting the ball and becoming a great player.

Doesn't seem like Randle is a lock to be resigned.

"We still have no indication of where Julius stands among the Lakers' priorities, or if he is a priority at all," Randle's agent Aaron Mintz said Saturday in response to Pelinka's comments. "We are looking forward to the marketplace in July, when we will get a clear picture of Julius' future."
What contributes to the uncertainty is that the Lakers have been saving salary-cap space for this summer and next in order to take advantage of robust free-agent markets, and they know it will take two stars to once again become a championship contender. It's unlikely they could add two free agents on maximum contracts without renouncing their rights to Randle.
Pelinka said he does not have an upper-limit figure in mind for Randle.
"I think going into a process with kind of a position of entrenchment or here's the thin red line that we will not cross isn't necessarily the best way to approach something with an open-mindedness," Pelinka said. "I think any negotiation is between two sides. Ultimately you're hoping to find a partnership."

I think that was clear when we were trying to move him on deadline day.

I can see Johnson trading Ingram for Kawhi.
We best trade Ball before we Ingram.
Sigh, I wish these guys would commit to team building over star chasing.
I agree with you to a certain extent. However, there's no guarantee any of our guys will turn out to be the real deal. It's easier to trade a guy a year too early over a year too late.

"Ankles stuff" has more to do with fitness and the ligaments not being strong enough to support the wear and tear of the season and their physical growth then anything else. Not seeing how talking about strengthening the core, and the ligaments and muscles is reckless. It's how you prevent injuries.

I would pass on this. Whiteside would come here and complain about playing time... don't think we need that distraction. Besides, isn't the point of trading Deng is for salary relief? Why take on an even larger contract? Doesn't seem very smart to me.

That Whiteside contract is worse than Deng's.
No thanks.

Whiteside is a 27M/yr cap hit in 2019/2020... There is absolutely no upside in trading for that...
Not only is he terrible at the game of basketball, he's got a bad attitude, and is a worse contract than Deng?
Heat fans dreaming.

yeah but we get rid of Deng for a reasonably moveable asset. At least Whiteside has ability.

Whiteside's Ability to Contract cost ratio is worse than Deng's... For the money, Deng's a better asset... Especially since we can extend him now...
