Friendly reminder that in days between the Florida shooting and this one, Fox News, Republicans and far right nut jobs were attacking Emma Gonzales, David Hogg and the rest of the parkland students who have used their platform born from unfortunate circumstances to call attention to this.

November is in 6 months. Don't sit at home on election day. Make sure to vote D down the board...yeah yeah, the Dems have issues too but the days of saying "both parties are the same" are over. I'd rather deal with a party full of sensible moderates who aren't receiving laundered cash from the NRA, thank you. The trash needs to be taken out. It may not stop the next mass shooting, but it can lead to the start of strict gun laws that can prevent scum like the kid who decided to shoot ten people instead of blowing his own brains out in his parents basement from getting his hands on assault rifles. At this point if someone suggested mass federal confiscation of all non handguns/shotguns I'd be all for it.

I would too. I wish one existed. The 2 party system is broken.

Spoken as a person with no love for guns, that was recently shocked when people were asking to purchase guns at our recent community garage sale.

I've actually been shot before (wrong place, wrong time) so I'm not big on guns and I abhor gun violence...but I'm not anti guns per say. I believe in home defense, I had a friend who died in a home invasion years ago so I understand why people want guns for protection (especially women). But no one has any business having guns that are used in military combat zones for protection. It's nonsense.

I would say that the Democrats as a whole are as moderate as it gets. The far left really doesn't have much of a voice in the party outside Bernie Sanders and most dems are center-left. I will take that over this absolute **** show that has been going on in the House and Senate over the last several years with Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell either trying to legitimately kill people (healthcare) or aiding and abetting the most corrupt administration in this country's history.

The problem right now is that one side is extremely compromised and believes that cruelty makes for good public policy.
They are also not doing their jobs because they have refused to hold the executive branch in check...a lot of this stuff under Trump could be worse if it wasn't for the judicial branch still doing its job.

Vote them all out.

I think maybe it was 2009? I was walking back to my car from an old friend's cookout (at the time they lived in east orange) when some car rolled around the corner and started shooting at some dudes who were hanging out in front of a car at the house next door and I ended up getting hit on the side of my arm. I was pretty damn lucky tbh (not to mention a few months after that a Ford F150 barreled through a stop sign and hitting me in the drivers side in a hit and run accident. how I'm still here to this day i wonder). I deal with PTSD from being shot, any time a car comes around the corner I reflexively get put on alert and a sense of fear sets in...even though I know in reality it's a normal thing and no one is coming to kill me, it still gives me anxiety. Hell, if someone lights off firecrackers or fireworks and I'm unaware I get paranoid. I can't imagine what soldiers go through when they come home from warzones, or kids who survive these mass shootings. Gun violence is no joke, it **** you up for life. If some of these dirty GOPers ever felt the sting of a bullet hitting you or the fear that sets in while sound of a gun firing in their direction is going off maybe they'd stop enabling these killers having access to guns.

Damn man that's crazy. I was shot at back in the day, never got hit though. At least I was in my car driving and not on foot lol.

Did you get messed up from the car accident? You had a string of simultaneous bad/good luck, damn haha.

It’s because they’re emboldened by the Racist in Chief, they think that since he doesn’t have consequences they won’t.

P.S. The videos of him running away from the media afterwards are absolutely hilarious.

I abhor gun violence as well. Personally I think there needs to be a HUGE crackdown on guns in this society and not just the military grade weapons. Military rifles should not be present in this society but that’s a given to any reasonable person. They serve no use, they’re literally glorified grown man toys. But, what doesn’t get enough attention is hand guns. Hand guns kill more people every year than all other weapons and are easily concealable. They’re also the most common gun used in robberies and other crimes. They need to be banned completely IMO.

In reality you can’t ban all guns but what should be doing is banning the most dangerous ones (handguns military rifles). We really need to adopt the rules that Australia uses, where the potential gun owner has the burden to show proof of need: dangerous local wildlife, necessity of hunting, distance from police station, restraining order against dangerous person etc.

Like TheNetsFan said we definitely need to get rid of the political parties. Once we do that we’ll see a much more normal range of discussion as opposed to people(Republicans) choosing these irrational opinions because their dad was a republican or because of 1 issue such as being pro-life (the only reasonable republican position but even then they take it to excessive lengths).

In addition I think there needs to be an effort to police the internet more and restrict violent and racist speech. The reality is when you talk to most Republicans in real life they aren’t nut jobs like the Schlossberg guy, they’re just people who have been brainwashed into hating the left and everything they stand for by Fox News and conservative social media talking heads. When you have conversations with Republicans almost none of the reasonable ones support the horrible cruelty and anti-intellectualism of their Party’s platform when it isn’t an anonymous internet post (I think we should also ban internet anonymity at least on twitter and Facebook but that’s another conversation). If we get rid of the parties we can get rid of that cruelty and finally let reasonable people dominate the conversation.

The GOP and Trump are pushing reasonable people of both the left, center and right together imo. This country's survival depends on common sense, the rule of law and human decency, none of which has been exhibited by the President and the Republican controlled congress. They all need to go and I can foresee the GOP not holding power in this country for a long while following Trump when the full story about the Trump campaign and the RNC's dealings with Russia comes out.

Not just the parkland kids.... but Sante Fe had walkouts protesting, BEGGING for change/help, only to see their school shot up.

It blows my mind how pathetic this country has become, how far capitalism and greed has degraded things where money matters more then the lives of these kids. i can only imagine the fear of parents with kids in school, id be terrified to send mine out each morning. it can happen at any school anytime... and it WILL happen again in the near future in all likelyhood.

its sad that this shooting is "ho hum" and not shocking. you expect to hear this stuff now. its become normal.

you can say ban military weapons or make stronger gun laws. thats all well and good but bottom line is that there are more guns then people in the US with a longstanding, huge sample of evidence that more guns = more gun deaths regardless of economic and social factors.

we need to reduce the amount of guns. period.
