So love the Kings draft on here and hope it comes true. But curious on your thoughts of a trade if the Kings think Giles/ Ayton is an overlap.
Do you think Chicago trades Markennan and 7 for 2 and the rights for Ayton? Not sure I would do it but I think the Kings might.
Apologies, missed your post. I don't think it's necessarily an overlap, I mean it could be, but I would not be concerning yourself with the potential outcome of a guy like Giles that (in spite of how good he's potentially sounding to be) hasn't played an NBA game and had a tonne of question marks which dropped him to 20 last draft.
If Doncic's there instead, I think it might be a more preferable outcome, because you can easily project a lineup like Fox/Hield/Doncic/Skal/Giles, but of course Bogdan has been really good as well and you're pushing him to the bench. Either way, I think Bogdan or Giles could be excellent 6th men.
As for the Bulls, I think Markkanen is untouchable. If we do trade up, we'd be looking to use our other assets. A potential trade up Bulls fans have discussed has been 7/Portis/22 for pick 3 or 4, should we like one of those guys higher up, and should Bamba and MPJ both be gone by our pick. That's probably as far as I would go for #2 if Ayton's the guy available.
My initial thoughts are that the Kings should just stick to their spot, but even if we use the 7/Portis/22 trade as an example, it's an interesting thought for the Kings. There's a lot of draft heads on twitter that don't like Ayton's ability to help an NBA team - if you look at The Stepien, they have Ayton at 6, citing the playoffs as an example of the way the game is trending, and concerns about his defense and how important that is at the C position. Maybe they also look at a guy like MPJ and are sold on him, obviously he's pretty polarizing but many talk about him like he's the #1 guy when healthy.
So if the Kings are thinking along those lines, perhaps they look at 7/22/Portis as appealing. They could roll out -
Fox / Mason Jr.
Hield / Okogie
MPJ / Bogdanovic / J.Jackson
Portis / Skal
Giles / WCS
You get a top prospect in MPJ, a starting PF in Portis, and a defensive 2/3 in Okogie.
I dunno, just an idea, I'd probably just stick with #2 if I was you but depending on how the Kings evaluate a bunch of factors, like just how high they are on Giles being the future C, how much they like a guy like MPJ or someone else, and whether they see Portis as a legit starter (I do), it might be an interesting deal.
