This is a misstep IMHO. I hate Melvin Hunt. He's the guy that interim-coached DEN that year the players mutinied on Brian Shaw. Hunt acted all unaware when it was all happening even though he was the lead assistant who all the players probably came to in order to complain about Shaw. Freaking back-stabbing clown. JMHO Keeps getting jobs for some reason.

1. Noted.

2. There's a chance Brian Shaw is just really bad at coaching and Hunt was willing to take the hit for the opportunity.

3. I think Lloyd would knock the snot out of Melvin if something like that happened here.

Yeah but even while he was coaching, it was like watching a clown on the sidelines. I recall vividly them beating us right after the change and him basically acting like he'd just won the super bowl. Pierce has gravitas. Hunt has gravy toss.

Eh, maybe he'll be a good culture guy and not stap CLP in the back. I'll promise to hate Hunt less until I have a reason to let the hate-wagon out.

Jordan Hill wrote:Prior to arriving in Dallas, Hunt spent six seasons as an assistant with the Denver Nuggets. Hunt stepped in as Denver’s interim head coach to end the 2014-2015 season, compiling a 10-13 record during that time.

Hunt’s connection with Pierce goes back to the two’s time together with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Hunt was an assistant with the team from 2005 to 2010, while Pierce coached there for those final three years.

Ummmm...that’s pretty freakin awesome. If we are short a man he can step right in for us!

Seriously though, not too shabby coach Lloyd.

Ps So you all are on this thread having a party without me huh? And kg is using Walt White gif’s and Burd made the guac probably and Jamal is a cowboy slapping horse like Lloyd would slap a Hunt. Well this sounds fun and F you all for not inviting me.

Lloyd Pierce looking to establish defensive identity with Hawks

The new head coach has set out what he wants his Atlanta Hawks side to look like on the court

Ball movement was the name of the game under Mike Budenholzer. Defense is the new name of the game under Lloyd Pierce.

While Pierce won’t have such a reliable defensive anchor in Joel Embiid, the things that more than likely won’t change when it comes to Pierce’s defensive schemes/ideas in Atlanta is that the Hawks are going to taught to be physical and disciplined. They’re going to compete, practice and play hard — Pierce referenced ‘sweat equity’ on a numbers of occasions during his introductory press conference.

Lloyd Pierce will coach the Hawks at Utah Summer League — where a considerable number of his possible final roster might be in action too — and it’s there where everyone will learn a bit more about the defensive schemes that Pierce will look to implement in Atlanta.

That 4 point line would make even D'Antoni blush.

:D

Hawks are ahead of the pack! We've got our head coach. We made our selection early, before all the other
teams muddies the water, selecting who they wanted and we had the leftovers.

As our coach settles in, selecting his assistant coaches, and studying his new team, others are still out there
in the jungle, hunting. Hawks were not the only team without a head coach. Many teams kept their coach
while others did as we did and will hire a new one.

Our coach is new to being a head coach. We can only guess at how the team will be with him as our leader.
However, we hear our players as they talk. They seem to like the idea of Lloyd Pierce being their leader.
Players who were under him while he was an assistant coach and others who were familiar with him have
been very positive.

Some posters have been questioning his assistant coaches. Well, we must have something to worry about,
don't we? So many things we seek answers to. The draft. Trades. Free agency.

GO ATLANTA DREAM !! - - Their season has started...

It bodes really well that the Hawks gym is so packed right now. They don't have to be there now that the regular season ended, they could be chilling on their yachts off of Marseilles.

It doesn't even matter that lots of those guys won't be here next year - it's about building a culture of professionalism and team work. I watched the Sixers go through dozens of no-name D-League guys but Brett Brown kept them playing good team basketball even when they were down 30 points, and now that they have the talent they showed up. I'm hoping we could do the same.

Only Baze and Dennis can afford a yacht :D.

I concur with most of your post. Sometimes those Brett Brown teams didn't look like a basketball team, just saying.

Agree with everything until that bit about Brett b. Mostly his teams played like headless chickens.

He's a media darling so he gets a pass.
