Askren is a good guess. I think you may be right there.

Maybe he meant Askren though?
Honestly you guys can tell me I put way too much stock in this fight due to how long ago it was and the fact that it wasn't GSP and you'd probably be right, but everytime I think of GSP/Woodley I think back to the clinic that Rory put on Woodley. Rory/Firas figured something out about Woodley that nobody else has figured out since he came to the UFC and just completely had his number (I think bjjscout did a breakdown of this IIRC). And if anything, GSP is a smarter fighter than Rory.
The notion of Ben getting a crack at GSP, however, moves my needle. If someone tells you that they know what would happen in that fight, don't talk to that person anymore. They are not your friend, they are a liar.

Fave parts of the JRE so far:
-He breaks into impressions of Anglos / Americans a couple times. Haha. @1:14. Forget 155, I want GSP improv showcase.
-That he was so careful to avoid directly accusing Hendricks. Pretty noble. LOL, in contrast to the Diaz brothers just spraying accusations about everything at everyone.
-Wait, is he diminishing climate change? 1:46. Get back in that Range Rover, mudbutt.

All fighters have flaws. Some street fight too much. Some don't believe in climate change. Some hang around with murderous warlords. Some are just too really, really, really ridiculously good-looking.

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets/Etc., Vol. 4
Did anyone else think he looked fantastic? I'd love to know what weight he's at right now, because he looked incredible.
I really liked how honest he is about sparring etc, saying he really doesn't take it too seriously and those that do lose years off their careers/lives. He talked about being younger and wanting to spar hard, and how even spared Carwin lol. He doesn't try to be macho, he's the GOAT and he's like that's one Scary MF'er lol. He said Carwin was sparing and doing some GNP and knocked the guy out cold.
Thought it was interesting how he talked about different workouts, and how most people are destroying their joints in the process. He does another type (I was a little distracted here, so I might be mistaken) but he talked about Russians being more advanced in this area, and doing different types of workouts that are easier on the joints and help prolong your career.
He's a very forward thinking, self realized individual. I don't listen to a lot of fighters speak because I don't care for meathead thoughts, but I loved this podcast. I might need to start listening more to them.

But what about climate change bro? GSP drives a range rover and questions human contribution to planet destruction. Maybe get Mother Earth on the next pod, have Joey Diaz interpret, see what she says?

The Carwin thing is effed. He talked about the guy Carwin KOd in GnP being much smaller than him too. GnP, of all things? Why go hard, what is that even teaching anyone? Guy sounds like an ****. Schaub has talked about Marquardt losing years off his life sparring with Carwin, Duane going at it with Carwin, etc. Seems like not only a Carwin thing but a whateverthatgymiscalled thing. With that pencil necked weirdo as the coach.
Plus, Carwin KOd that shock jock a year or so ago.

Good thing he got when he even did otherwise from the aphasia he'd have expressed it as chipped tooth prospect. At least we knew what he was trying to convey this way.

Yup I was thinking that too, how do you KO a guy with GNP while sparing? I don’t roll, so I don’t entertain those convos out of sheer ignorance, but it seems like you’d have to have your douche volume cranked to max to knock a guy out in that situation.

GSP brought Nick vs Woodley as well. Saying it’s a shame nick went the way he did, because his style is a sound one to fight Woodley. He’s forward moving, always putting pressure on you, picks at you constantly and has an iron chin.
Made me more interested in the possible match up of it were to occur

I guess that's why JRE is good. Pretty much everything I've watched of GSP were press interviews and it's always quite professional. This 3hr conversation was awesome, it was a lot more casual, a lot more insightful and it was just naturally funny. Most of the 'funny' guests Rogan has on aren't half as funny a GSP is and that's including most of the comics Rogan has on

Another funny thing is GSP saying that his fave fighters are, like, Sonnen and Diaz. He finds the nice guys boring!

At least he's sticking to his guns. He obviously would find himself boring because it's not in his personality to do the trash talking that guys like Sonnen and Diaz does but he's not willing to put on a fake persona to be exciting. Admirable

First 15 seconds - Askren throws a couple of fake jabs and shoots. After that it's unclear, though I'd pretty easily favor GSP. I think Askren / Maia would be more fun (assuming Askren takes it to the ground).

I could see that happening too. I think Woodley is more efficient and calculating now, but GSP is still the favorite fairly comfortably...
But of the alternatives, who is the harder fight than Woodley? Like you said, Askren is the interesting one, but GSP is one of those guys where it’s very hard for me to envision him getting completely handled as a grappler until I see someone do it. I think at best you can keep him from dominating you there and turn it into a striking match, which wouldn’t work well for Ben.
Off the top of my head, Robert Whittaker is probably the smallest guy I’d favor over GSP at this point, anyone else that can beat him would have to have a noticeable size advantage IMO. None of the guys in his size range have his talent/skill/athleticism, and will need to rely on neutralizing his takedowns and landing a knockout punch. Not great odds there.

Askren would be an awesome matchup but I don't think I would give Askren the advantage.
Khabib would be awesome but same thing, I think GSP's standup wins him that fight.
Kevin Lee is probably the most dangerous fight for him at 155-170 IMO.
