Offensively, his upside there has a lot of luck involved. But defensively, he can work to reach that upside.
My point is there are a lot of things for him to improve on D. Than having the mindset that he can just focus on his offense for he’s already great on D.
I'm not sure I see much more upside on the defensive end beyond what he's already giving us (I mean... We are talking about a guy that just made first team all defense). He's got good length and great hands on D, but I'm not sure if he has the foot speed or mentality to be an elite man to man defender.
The offensive end, there's a ton of things for him to work on. I assume you are referring to the variability that comes along with relying on 3 pointers when you say his offensive improvement is luck based, but clearly he could stand to get better off the bounce.
I agree, Roco is going to be 28 years old. I think he is near his peak defensively, which given his lack of elite athleticism he has achieved a lot. What is funny about this "all team first defense" is that its voted on by national broadcasters and national writers. The same guys that local fans(like us) make fun of when they try to offer opinions on the local teams who they don't watch on a daily basis. The same guys who made fun of the process. THOSE guys are the ones whose votes all of the Covington supporters are putting so much value on.
I don't put any value into it. I see a guy who Brett Brown COULDN'T KEEP ON THE FLOOR because he could not guard ANYONE on the Celtics. Add to that his extremely shaky offense and you basically have a guy who is unplayable against the Celtics.
And you cannot compare Simmons because he played bad as well. The Celtics GAME PLANNED to specifically stop Simmons and he is a rookie. NO ONE game planned to stop 27 year old Covington, he made dumb play after dumb play, missed wide open shots and consistently got owned by whoever he guarded.
