Covington would play close to 30 minutes per game on THAT team. There is no way in hell a 34 year old JJ Redick will play more minutes than Covington on THAT team. There is no logic in saying that for THIS team to be a contender, Covington NEEDS to be the the 7th or 8th man, which is what you said. All contenders over the years have 7th or 8th men who are much worse than Covington. All contenders over the years have their 5th best player at a similar level to Covington (if not worse). The only one here being obtuse is you.

Covington is just a role player. That's all he will ever be. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you will get over it when he's traded for a REAL difference maker or moved to the bench to make place for a REAL difference maker on both ends of the floor.

I agree that he is a role player. Like Danny Green, the role playing 4th or 5th best player on the 2014 champion Spurs, or Trevor Ariza, the role playing 4th or 5th best player on the 2009 champion Lakers or the 65 win 2018 Rockets, or JR Smith, the role playing 4th or 5th best player on the 2016 champion Cavs, or James Posey, the role playing 5th best player on the 2006 champion Heat. Covington can and will be a starter and 4th or 5th best player on this team when it's contending for a championship.

If he can develop more of a well rounded offensive game and not be a liability on defense against certain teams you may be right.

The players I listed did not have more well rounded offensive games and were not better defenders.

In your opinion hes perhaps a 3rd best player on a championship team ? Many on this board, and in general people who follow the team closely, strongly disagree with your OPINION.

Many people strongly disagree with an opinion I never claimed to have or even suggested to have? Cool story.

I do think Covington is far better than Luc Mbah a Moute, Jordan Clarkson, and Nick Young/Quinn Cook, the 8th men on today's contenders. By saying Covington can only be the 8th man on a contender, you are in effect saying he is on a similar level as those players. In other words, you are saying "I have awful opinions".

Stop being so obtuse.

If the Sixers sign Lebron or PG3, resign Reddick and Fultz becomes the player we think he can be.
Starters:
Simmons, Embiid, Lebron or PG3, Reddick, Dario

Bench:
Fultz, TJ or COVINGTON---etc.

7th or 8th best man on THAT team(which is very possible).
If we sign any of those guys and re-sign Reddick, the "first team all defense" Covington becomes the 7th or 8th guy off the bench.

I still can't believe you talk so bad about Roco on D yet you leave JJ in the starting lineup. At least they don't go straight at Roco on every possession like they do JJ, he's 34 and will get picked on by every team in the league next year. If anyone should go to the bench, it should be JJ instead of Roco.

JJ actually does something on offense. You cant throw up bricks AND get owned on defense. I guess Boston wasn't aware that he was first team all defense.   You sound ridiculous, go back and watch the Celtics series and you will see why Covington was benched and Reddick wasn't.

At this point, your actually sounding quite ridiculous. JJ shot 34% from 3 in that series and overall for the playoffs (Roco at 31% for the playoffs), thats not exactly setting the world on fire, and was picked on every time he was on the court on D.

I'm starting to think you need to get your eyes checked.

Maybe you should email Brett Brown and asked him why the first team all defender was benched during the Celtic series.

We have already been through this, yet you keep repeating the same thing over and over like it becomes fact cause you have said it before. First off, BB didn't make the best decisions in that series anyway, and Ben and Roco couldn't guard that quick midget so he should've been playing TJ long before that.

Alot of players were bad in that series, but I got the feeling that no matter what your still going to beat on Roco. Thats cool, do your thing, but we had alot of players play bad, there is a long list. BB still played JJ even though it was obvious he was getting picked on time after time, yet you want him to remain a starter. At least he stopped playing Marco as much but too little too late, we need to bring in a Tyreke Evans to get those guys out of our rotation.

At the end of the day, Roco playing bad hurt us, but so did JJ, Ben, Jojo's mask, Fultz not playing, and BB. You continually pointing out Roco gets tiresome when there are so many other issues also.

Well it is the Roco thread so I am only discussing him. However you are correct, a lot of guys played below their norm.
But guys like Simmons and Embiid are rookies. Having said that, I think Roco needs to improve some things. He may just not be effective against Boston period. Could just be a bad matchup for him, he was better in Miami series.
I don't know how much he can improve at 28, time will tell.
