Steve Clifford has agreed to a four-year deal to become the head coach of the Orlando Magic, league sources told ESPN on Wednesday.

Clifford, 56, flew to Michigan on Tuesday to meet with ownership from the DeVos family. A news conference is expected Wednesday to introduce Clifford in Orlando, sources said.

Orlando president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman considered Clifford the right combination of tactical coach, teacher and disciplinarian for a young, developing roster.

He isn't the guy I would have hired.

My biggest fear with Clifford is that his schemes, particularly his defensive system, have not translated all that well to the pace and space era that we're presently in.

That and his teams have underachieved the last three years he's been a head coach, including badly underachieving the last two.

15-16: Expected wins 49, Actual wins 48
16-17: Expected wins 42, Actual wins 36
17-18: Expected wins 42, Actual wins 36

Again it’s hard to get excited but no one really knows for sure what to expect.
Like Henny, Vogel, etc. I am going to give Clifford and everyone else time and not jump the gun to any conclusions

I like Steve Clifford and wish him well.

Ultimately I expect to see Nick Nurse hired by the Raptors now. I think Nurse was the guy Weltman wanted when the search began but the Raps firing of Casey changed everything.
