I'll take the excellent basketball player with a significant chance to be an NBA champion over some shot in the dark at a raw big man prospect who will probably get injured or never develop every single time...

Yep. Doncic has a much higher floor IMO. His chance to bust is extremely low IMO. Bare minimum he should become an elite 3rd or 4th option. If he hits his upside we ate looking at a 25 ppg+ elite scorer.

He doesnt have a 25 ppg scoring upside, thats the point. He is what he is and will get a little better as he ages but he is already a pretty developed player.

He was putting insane scoring rate in Euroleague, if he was playing in college or Fiba u19, he would probably have looked as most dominant scorer of at least last 10 years. I get why people think he doesnt have that great of the ceiling, but he is far from peaked. Just because he is not a project, doesnt mean he wont improve at a good rate.

You can praise him all you want i have watched him both at Eurobasket and Euroleague. At both competitions he was decent but far from extraordinary. In both competitions he was carried by better players than himself. By Dragic in Eurobasket and by Llull at the Final four. He is a big time hype job.

He averaged 14/8 while shooting well as an 18 year old while winning Eurobasket and making the All-Tournament team. That at 18 he wasn't quite as good as a 12 year NBA veteran who made the NBA All Star team this year in Dragic is not an indictment of Doncic's upside in any way. If he'd been the best player at Eurobasket at 18 we'd be projecting Doncic to be one of the greatest players who ever lived.

The point is that Doncic is credited for success of his team and players who truly carried those teams. Whenever i watch him he is underwhelming and his statistical production is nothing other worldly. He is hyped up to be this wonderkid who carried his team while in reality he was just a part of the team in a pretty weak competition. All his hype comes from the fact that he is young but if you actually watch him play you would see that he is quite physically mature and pretty developed while being a average athlete so his upside is not great.

There have only been small samples of nba teenagers against international grown men like lebron 2004 or Anthony Davis 2012.
Bron was underwhelming and Davis just provided dunks.

Not saying he's better than those guys. But people are Holding doncic performances against him saying dragic forced him to score
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

Eurobasket 2017 had all the best team missing half of their rosters. Doncic had only one great game and it was against Porzingis who was in foul trouble. He was put on the all euro team partly because its the FIBA tradition to select the best players from top 4 teams selecting more players from the champion and partly because of his hype.

Against weak competition? The best Euroleague teams can hold their own against NBA teams. You realize other NBA prospects play in a league where a majority of players will never play any kind of pro ball.

NCAA is a weak competition too. That doesnt make Euroleague better. Euroleague is filled with NBA washouts and rejects where NBA fringe rotation players are winning MVPs and championships. Pump the breaks.

This is ridiculous...Lebron was way better...especially post all-star break when he played like an MVP. He was also the BEST player on that years version of the dream team even before the season stared and even though he didn't start.

Lebron's defence was already awesome...he lead the entire league in steals, he was the fastest guy in the league and his passing was AMAZING as usual. That team minus Lebron may have been the least talented team to ever play in the NBA...just for some perspective...Ricky Davis was by far the 2nd best player on the team.

Carmelo scored well in that year but to say he was better overall as a rookie than Lebron shows that you didn't watch very closely. He was also way better than Simmons or any other rookie even though he was younger than all of them.

Denver was one of the worst team year before they got Carmelo and then they become playoff team with him .

Euroleague is miles ahead of the NCAA. Most NCAA players wouldn’t even have a career in Euroleague. Euroleague teams have played and beaten NBA teams. Obviously the league is on the NBA level but certainly the 2nd best league in the world by far.

Ya...I remember...it came down to the last game of the year for both teams and Denver squeaked in with the 8th seed and Cleveland almost fought back to take the 8th but missed out. Lebron beat out Carmelo for rookie of the month every single month that year. At that point Lebron had shown he was easily better than both and by the 2nd season he was the best player in the world and has been ever since. You were probably too young to remember or you are just a Lebron hater with a childish agenda. Likely the 2nd as you even included Wade in there and clearly that isn't even debatable.

Old enough to assess that LBJ wasn't a better rookie than Chris Paul, Anthony Davis, Greg Oden - I could keep going (I can also spot out who is ignorant, because people will laugh as if Oden was a bad rookie or something I bet).

Joel Embiid was a better rookie than LBJ btw.

Again - if anything, people are showing their age by not being able to split between James hype as a prospect and his hype as a rookie. If you think there hasn't been a better rookie than 18 year old Lebron James up to this point then you are the one who wasn't following basketball closely then...probably still don't follow it closely now in fact.

So now he is not good, because he wasnt best player on championship Eurobasket and Euroleague teams at age 18/19? Laughable takes being made.
