It always made sense for Jontay to return I felt. he's one of the youngest prospects this year (younger than even JJJ) and he's come out looking out of shape and I think another season of experience would really do well for his draft stock.

I agree. I like Porters game and I'm usually someone who feels if you're a 1st rounder you should just go out but in this particular situation I get why he would return to school. His biggest flaw is his body and that's something that is more controllable to improve than learning a skill. If he gets in good shape and is featured more in their O this season he's has definite lotto potential next year in a weaker draft; especially since he'll be the same age as most of the 1 and done guys.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

While I like Jontay a lot, I am not sure I like him as much given the coming in out of shape issue. I mean, I know he's a kid, but to cost yourself literally millions of dollars because you came in out of shape is super irresponsible. The second his season ended he should have been training furiously for the draft.

16 and 31 will be used for a vet. Mark it down! Per Suns analytics guy Jake.

Trading 16, at least, for a vet always made the most sense. Wonder what kind of value you can get with that.

Not much. The best way to get franchise players are through the draft. I think we keep the 16 pick unless we use it in a package to trade up, but given this draft, I can't see us being able to trade up very far and don't think we should use our 19 pick in any circumstance in a trade, unless we are getting an all star type player, but still probably wouldn't, given our youth.

I'd be okay using our 19 pick if the guy we got was better than who we could anticipate getting next year. For instance, I could see Bamba or Young falling a bit and being guys who we would take over all but Barrett and maybe Williamson. And depending on who we take at 1, either of those are pretty ideal fits for the remaining hole in the lineup, and probably better fits than guys we could get in FA or even available vets. Also, it preserves cap space to go after somebody in FA this year or next.
The only needle mover I could see for 16/31 would be PGs who are true vets because that position has too many good players and thus is not valuable. I could also see a team that is cap constrained maybe taking that for somebody they aren't sure they want to build around on a high deal.

I'm not sure many would take Trae or Bamba over Barrett based on what I've read. But there are likely to be good prospects we don't even know about (like Trae) or others, and with the revised lottery rules we could easily jump into a top pick.
I'm a big Trae fan and I like Bamba but I wouldn't trade an unprotected pick to jump up (I doubt a team will be willing to trade out of a spot where they are available anyway).

The Suns head analytics guy. His last name is Luz or Luce sounds like loose.

Well, I guess it depends on the vet if I like that or not. Just really like some of the guys who might be there at 16 and 31. Zhaire Smith, Robert Williams, Kevin Knox, SGA could all fall to 16. If not, there's still Milton and Musa and a few others. 31 might have Okobie but he may end up going earlier. Somebody always unexpectedly falls to round 2.

Melton and Shamet are interesting. Melton has changed his shot and looks much better as far as his release/motion goes. Not much interest in Trier. I could get behind Alkins but only if he becomes the defender he used to be and not the one he was this season.

Well yeah, that's why I said "all BUT Barrett" and maybe Williamson. People surprise during the year but the odds of us getting a top 3 pick are again slight. I do believe our team finishes bottom 7 but closer to 7 than 1. I guess it depends on who we actually get in FA or via trade. I would take Young over all but Barrett though. I think his passing and shooting open up everything offensively for the rest of what our team would be at that point. Even if we end up with Doncic at the top, I think Young is a great fit and uniquely skilled on offense. He would be locked into a rookie deal and far more valuable to us than the vets people seem to want here (Rubio, Walker, etc.). He doesn't defend, but Curry doesn't either and the Warriors don't have some hulking big man rim protector like Gobert behind him. They have Draymond, who Jackson could end up being that type of impact defensively. With Bamba, getting a guy that long and mobile is also something we simply will not be able to get elsewhere. Only Gobert is comparable and he is not available. Point being, I would be okay giving that pick to get either, and just make it top 1 or 2 protected if truly worried and throw in something else to make up for it like, such as a trade where if the pick doesn't transfer next year they get the Milwaukee pick as well. But gun to my head I would give it up unprotected because I think both Bamba and Young would be projected to go top 3 next year.

Looks like Donte DiVincenzo, Omari Spellman, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Brian Bowen are staying in the draft.
