Buckner at #4 on the list.
Just feels like he's a guy that so far has flown way under the radar. Doesn't seem like a whole lot of people talk about him being on of the best DLs in the league but hopefully he can change that this upcoming season.

Was not a fan of the Thomas pick but I do lay a lot of blame for his production in playing out of position.
They just need to line him next to Buckner and leave him there and stop trying to be overly cute with where you play him.
If you didn't love him as an interior defensive lineman than why draft him #3 overall. I hate it when teams get too overly "cute" with where they line guys up or with their positions.

Good news but still going to be anyone's guess in how he comes back from the injury.
He knows the defense like the back of his hand so no real reason to rush him out there and his physical condition is really the most important thing.

Kittle and Colbert made the list.
Not sure that I'm with him on Kittle but I do really like Colbert and he does appear that he could be a pretty good Safety in the league.
I can't recall the game but I remember him covering a lot of ground to get involved in a pass play that I was thinking that nobody else on the roster could've covered that much ground to have an impact on a play.
But the concern with him is will he be like Foster and have a reserved seat in the blue tent on the sidelines.

Jed abstains from anthem vote. Barrows mentioned on Twitter that the Niners will close concession stands during the anthem. I approve of that decision. I've always found it pretty ironic that people were getting so up in arms when the anthem is often a real afterthought at sporting events, and hardly a universally recognized moment of reverence.

I'm with Jed on stopping the concession stand sales during the anthem.
I'm not talking about blind patriotism or anything but I just always thought it on the rude side to not stand and show respect when they anthem is played and when/if another countries anthem is played.

Another one of these kinds of lists with Kittle on it. I'm a little more interested in seeing Kittle this year as he just seemed more like a guy you would want as TE #2 and not as a TE #1.

Word is (as confirmed by the Niners' official roster) that Thomas has dropped down to 256 pounds. It also appears he's playing largely outside. I really dislike that move. If anything, they need to give him more time inside. I'm fine with him playing at the big end spot on early downs, so long as he moves inside on obvious passing downs. Playing him at Leo? Including on passing downs? Having him cut 20 pounds? I don't get that at all. He's Justin Smith, not Von Miller. I'm having visions of Tank Carradine.

If there's a choice, I always prefer to draft bigger players & have them cut weight than the other way around. Didn't work out well Armstead, but Thomas is more talented than he.
I also don't like this move. Thomas seems like a guy who's a beast inside & just ok on the outside. Probably should've played in a 3-4.

Agree with both Crimson and Sick here.... I prefer Thomas on the inside based on his rookie year....
I thought if anything, he would use this offseason to beef up and grow some man strength... cutting the weight down though... idk... perhaps to get quicker?

Re: tOfficial 2018 Offseason Thread (not too early)
The issue I have - one of them anyway - is that he was already quick at 275. But he's not bendy. He doesn't have that dip to get around the edge. Maybe he can develop it, but it's not something he's ever really worked on, and it's not something that everyone can do. He was a great interior pass rusher in college, so why aren't we just letting him do that in the pros? Again, I'm fine lining him up at base end on first down. But when he's primarily rushing, it should be on the inside. If we wanted a true edge rusher, we should have taken any offer to move back further and taken Derek Barnett. And I'm on record as saying we should have gone up for Landry instead of Pettis this year.
A big part of my confusion/frustration on this one is that we seem to be moving Thomas out of his best position to play Armstead there. Armstead probably doesn't have a longterm future on this team, so why are we playing our third overall pick out of position to accommodate him? I get the whole "best 11" on the field, but now we're basically playing both our DEs somewhat out of position. I'd much rather rotate Armstead and Thomas at big end on base downs, rotate those two with Buckner inside in nickel, and put someone else at Leo. Let Thomas get to work now on his longterm position. We'll see if they do move him inside on passing downs. If so, my concerns about Leo vs. big end are somewhat muted. But I'm a bit skeptical that a) it'll happen, or b) that he'll be successful inside at his new weight.

I'm also a bit concerned about the reports of Garoppolo's spotty deep-ball accuracy. Obviously he can succeed without being accurate deep, but that was arguably THE glaring issue for him last season (only other major area of concern for me was poor decision-making at times), and I had visions of him really attacking it and improving upon it this offseason. Looks like his deep ball may be a deeper-seated issue.

From Barrows today:
Benson Collins @Benson_Collins_Is the report that Solomon is 20lbs lighter true or is that just a mistake?
ANSW: Solomon Thomas was listed at 256 pounds last year — the 49ers often grab a player's weight from his college bio — but said at the end of the season he was around 275 and didn't think he would alter his weight. As far as the eyeball test, he doesn't seem different than a year ago. We'll have to ask him. It would have been inappropriate yesterday when he was talking about the loss of his sister.
Read more here: http://www.sacbee.com/sports/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/article212259334.html#storylink=cpy
So maybe Thomas isn't cutting weight, after all. That came from Grant Cohn, so probably right to be skeptical. And I admittedly never looked at his listed weight last year. It's really odd the Niners wouldn't use combine measurements for their online roster....

Re: tOfficial 2018 Offseason Thread (not too early)
This is turning into quite the entertaining little mini drama. From Grant Cohn:
The 49ers updated their player listing for defensive end Solomon Thomas this morning. It now says he weighs 280 pounds. Wednesday, it said he weighed 256 pounds. Last season, it said he weighed 273 pounds.
How big does Thomas look to you? To me, he seems smaller than 280 pounds. He seems about the same size as Jeremiah Attaochu, who weighs 252 pounds. I don’t have a picture of Attaochu from OTAs, but I’ll take one next week and we can compare him to Thomas.
Part of the irony is that Grant repeats his error by claiming Attaochu weighs 252 pounds. No, Grant, that's what he's listed at. And we've just established that those numbers aren't very accurate.

I don't have a strong view of him as a player, though he seems to fit the mold physically. Serious reservations about a guy who has been kicked off the team, but I might take a flyer with a 7th. We've been adding a lot of high character guys lately. You can afford to take a chance every once in a while.

I sorta liked him, I saw him as a hidden gem for us as a return specialist:
Victor Bolden - WR - 49ers
NFL suspended WR Victor Bolden four games for violating the league's policy on PEDs.
The second-year wideout claims he "unknowingly" took a supplement that was on the NFL's banned substances list. Bolden didn't accumulate any stats over his 27 offensive snaps last year, but played an important role on special teams by returning 19 kicks for 396 yards. With the arrival of second-round receiver/return specialist Dante Pettis, Bolden faces an uphill battle to crack the Niners' 53-man roster. This suspension won't help matters.

Good chance this ends his Niners career, at least. Hard to see the team keeping him around for a suspension lasting 1/4 of the season.
