I think between 6th and 10th is a solid bet, but that’s assuming the coach we pickup is going I be someone that can at minimum establish a better culture, develop players, have better rotations and be consistent with their execution. That said, out of all the names listed as possible head coach replacements I think it’s likely we land between the 8th and 10th seed. No matter how healthy our players are they are still terrible fits. People talk about “ifs” and “buts” however there’s a reason we very rarely see any pistons trade ideas on the T&T board outside of Pistons fans because our players ceilings are low and they are grossly overpaid. Poor fits, outdated playing styles and terrible contracts. Gores has effectively killed hope which he continues to fail to realise and that is poisonous from a sports fan perspective.

Welcome to life under awful ownership! Remember Gores's tweet?

incompetent team owner wrote:"We are serious about winning, and this is a major move to improve our team. Blake Griffin is one of the NBA's elite players, and when you get an opportunity to add that kind of talent, you take it... we are very excited to bring Blake Griffin to Detroit. He is a great fit for our team and will bring a combination of toughness and athleticism that will elevate our team and excite our fans."

These are the words of a complete moron. Nothing in that tweet bore any relation to reality.

I’m not surprised at all by the rumoured names for our GM & coach, and his tweet will always go down in my memory as one for the ages. What I find surprising is that a businessman with a net worth of $4b can’t realise that he is failing the Pistons business to the nth degree, and decides to bring in losing pedigree personnel to advise him on how to succeed. With any business, if you’re going to spend money on hiring a consultant you hire the person with a proven track record that inspires success or at least was a pioneer in the field. Ed Stefanski isn’t only neither of these, his resume screams loser, and most of the coaches that have interviewed with us have some connection to him. Yes, working in the NBA for several years will mean that you have some form of a relationship with most in the NBA circle, however all of the coaches are fundamentally flawed with proven careers of losing and had more to do with him than simply having a conversation. If Gores payed above market deals for his GM and coach, surely we could attract better talent if they were hired with the provision that they won’t be judged until we have sorted out the roster and built up our front office. Paying your coach even $3-5m more than what other teams would be cheaper than spending big on terrible rosters and failing management like we have for the past ten years.

Even healthy the entire season we still finish under raps, bucks, pacers, wiz, sixers, celts. So were looking at a 1st round playoff with a trip to boston/sixers to get smoked in five if everything falls into perfect place and we stay healthy.

Assuming the Pistons stay healthy I'll guess a sixth seed. It's almost a sure thing that injuries will knock a couple of the better teams down, something we've gotten used to here.

Return to Detroit Pistons
