Kloffenstein is a nice get in the 3rd round. I'd kinda assumed that some of the higher-rated HSers were increasingly unsignable, but we might have some cash to work with.

Fangraphs:

TLDR

Opinions all over the place, with low end considering him an 88-91mph backend starter and high end projecting him as a hard-throwing stud with shades of Michael Kopech.

Full Report

Kloffenstein might be in the mid to late first round on some teams' boards. What you think of him depends largely on when you went in to see him as, at times, he's been 88-92 with a delivery scouts don't like and, at others, into the mid-90s with great command and polished secondary stuff. He has size and is young for the class, so if teams who seek those things are also teams who saw Kloffenstein at his best, they might be on him late in the first round.

Scouting grades: Fastball: 55 | Curveball: 55 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 55 | Overall: 45

Wymer served as a troubleshooting reliever on Texas Christian's College World Series club in 2017, the fourth straight year the Horned Frogs reached Omaha. Though he was extremely valuable in that role, retiring 35 of the 39 batters he faced while recording two wins and a save during the NCAA postseason, TCU shifted him into its rotation this spring. Though his stuff hasn't been as crisp as it has in the past and he missed time with back issues early in the season, he has still shown enough to factor in the first three rounds of the Draft.

Wymer has four quality pitches and there's little consensus as to which is his best. He'll flash a well-above-average curveball at times, though there are other times when his hard slider is his superior breaking ball. He doesn't worry about radar guns, working at 89-92 mph with a quality sinker, though he can reach back for 95-96-mph heat when he needs to.

As if that's not enough, Wymer can also unveil a solid changeup and fully trusts the pitch. Though he's not big, he's athletic and repeats his delivery, allowing him to throw a ton of strikes and boding well for his durability. He has advanced feel for pitching and mixes his pitches masterfully.

Does mean that we had an awful lot of eyes on Kloppenstein, in all likelihood, so our comfort level with his variable results is probably higher than most teams would be.

I wonder if Adam Klopfenstein will be a tough sign.

I would imagine they have a deal in place or else they wouldn’t pick him.
I really hope he signs.

Probably less so since we drafted his teammate.

Well, that's some good news. My minimum expectation for him is a much better version of Syndergaard.

So we're going way overslot for Kloppenstein...expect some senior signs.

Edit: as I post that, we take a senior catcher from Maine, heh.

If there is one thing I am not worried about with this front office it is signing draft picks (no shade, Alex). I don't think they would have picked anyone in the first 3 rounds who they did not know they could sign.

Nice, speaking of which one of my fav. parts of this draft, is when someone starts the theatre of MLB Draft signs and amounts.

Top TCU recruit Adam Kloffenstein, a right-handed pitcher from Magnolia High School, was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays with the No. 88 overall pick in the third round of the major league draft Tuesday afternoon.

Two sources confirmed the Blue Jays are offering Kloffenstein a first-round level signing bonus of about $2.5 million, and he will forgo his commitment to TCU.

The slotted amount for the No. 88 spot is just over $650,000. The Blue Jays are offering almost $2 million more than that.
