Any chance the team decline Lance Stephenson's Option?
I mean, to create more space and just sign him on minimum contract
Plus, we might be after Will Barton or Tyreke Evans

I suppose the chances are somewhat higher than the chance we get a call from LeBron's agent saying his client would like to sign with us if we can clear enough cap room.

I suppose the chances are higher that I see a pig fly today.

I think Larry gave him that contract hoping to give him some security. Probably believed he would be able to deserve getting his option picked up. I think he does.

I think we're picking up all of the team options. We'll give the group another chance and review the situation again next summer after those contracts expire.

Re: Any chance the team decline Lance Stephenson's Option?
Lance is scheduled to make a relatively low $4.3m next season. Even if the Pacers waived him and Lance still wants to re-sign at a lower amount (a tough ask IMO), the minimum the team will be charged is roughly $1.5m, so it's not a lot of cap savings.
It could be though that the Pacers would need that $4.3m space in order to complete a major signing. If he does get waived, we'll know that something is up. The decision date for Lance's TO is 6/29, which is the same date as Thad's PO and Bogie's guarantee date.

for some reason I was thinking that a lot of these decisions had to be made before the draft. maybe that was just CoJo's. looks like we can see what the draft gives us before we have to decide on the options.

I personally think those three guys you've mentioned are locked in to return to the Pacers next season - Lance, Thad, and Bojan.
The guys on the bubble whose status could get affected by the draft and free agency would likely be Joe Young, Glenn Robinson III, Trevor Booker, and Al Jefferson.

He's so cheap. Doesn't really make sense to take the risk just to try and lowball him.

Re: Any chance the team decline Lance Stephenson's Option?
I think Pritchard loves him. I'd be shocked to see him get declined. As winter_mute said, if he gets waived, we'll know something much bigger is coming. Lance has been a good player, a good citizen, and a fan favorite. Even the casual NBA fan knows and usually likes Lance, for entertainment at least. His deal is cheap for the production we get, so cutting him doesn't make sense unless there's a big move that would require it.

Re: Any chance the team decline Lance Stephenson's Option?
For some fans I know declining Lance would be an unforgivable offense. But I could see where 4 mil in additional space could be the difference between being able to make a market offer to a more desirable free agent or not.
Marcus Smart 8 mil probably gets matched by Boston, 12 mil maybe not
This range probably applies to a guy like Will Barton
Mario Herzonja Orlando can probably match 6 mil, 10 mil puts a nice spread between Orlando and us
Opinions on these guys could vary but I can see where you might like to have the extra 4 mil to work with. Depending on the free agent and the cap space that it turns out we have to work with 4 mil could be significant.

we could get more money with less damage to the rotation by dealing with Jefferson.

Orlando legally can not match that on Hezonja. Since they declined the 4th year option, they can only pay him his upcoming season no more than what he would’ve made in the 4th year of that deal. You may remember this as we were similarly constrained back when we declined Solo Hill’s deal.

I don't see any reason to decline lance's option. The guy can play 3 positions and may be the best pssser on the team. He's a fan fave and he can play. Where are you gonna get that for $4.3 million in today's NBA?

IM assuming something will be done with Jefferson. IF nothing else pay him off and getting the cap space. The 4 mil that could be created be created by dropping Lance could still useful even after dropping AL?

Thankfully we couldn't even think about matching that NO offer!

It seems we have all forgotten the Danny Granger trade, huh?
$4 mil is pennies. There is no reason to cut him to save that amount of money unless there's absolutely no other financial option, and we're not in a financial situation in which it's going to come down to that, I think.
Keep the guys together, keep the chemistry rolling.

Granger was done. He was never to return to his previous form.
