Give the man his money. They negotiated with him before he got traded to get that trade going. If they go back on their word now.. Houston's rep with players going to take a hit.

I expect the Rockets to pay him what he's worth but he's not worth a max contract. I'd say 4/100 is probably close to his value considering his age. He's probably worth 40/30/20/10 over the next 4 years. Anything over 4/120 is a big overpay imo.

Not that I think Houston's rep really took a hit but remember back a few years when...

-Omer Asik initially signed that 3 year/$25M deal with the Rockets, he was taking a discount on a short deal with the understanding with the Rockets that he would be their full time starting C. He was a looking for a good situation to go on his next contract run for the really big money.

-The next summer, the Rockets went after and got Dwight Howard and that would eventually send Asik to the bench, which basically destroyed his chances of a big contract run down the line. That's why Asik was so unhappy with the Rox and wanted out.

-Remember when they recruited Carmelo Anthony they put a big banner showing Melo's #7 jersey with his name on the back. Of course #7 was already taken by Jeremy Lin at the time and the Rockets never bothered asking Lin he was OK with doing that.

Not a huge deal in the overall big picture, but the Rockets have treated players like assets as much as anyone in the league. They likely won't play as many games with Paul because they know he's a more critical piece and he's also President of the Player's Association.
Brian Geltzeiler: You see Mark Jackson getting a head coaching job as early as next year?

Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.

Agreed. I also think they can get PG13 in a SnT. The Cavs were NEVER going to trade LeBron, but the Thunder know they need to do something because of Westbrook.

Gordon, Anderson, a couple 1st for PG13 and Singler.
I would then look to move Melo for another bad two year contract to a team looking for 2019 cap space
LAC looks prime. As does LAL, assuming they only land one Max FA, they really need to get out of Deng to get another max spot in 2019. Melo for Deng, plus LAL sending some small sweetener like a future pick.. nothing too much.
OKC gets a better overall roster and makes the playoffs each of the next two years while slowly building depth with Ferguson, plus Houston/their own picks.

Then in 2020, they would have Westbrook, Adams, Ferguson, a couple rookies, and a max spot.

Russ / FA
Gordon / Ferguson
Roberson / Grant
Anderson / Patterson
Adams / Dakari

Houston gets a defensive wing that would essentially be a Rich mans version of Ariza. PG13 instead of Ariza might of given then the Chip this year... Paul injury aside (I assume they wouldnt bring back Ariza as they team would be FAR too expensive)

This is the best scenario and would help both team, imo. Anderson and Gordon would be a perfect fit with Westbrook.

Why would a rivalry team do trade to help each other?
Unless OKC really hate GSW.

Are you asking from the OKC perspective...easy:
1) OKC has a super max Russ in his prime, they cant just rebuild
1A) even if they wanted to, having Melo and Adams kills any FA aspirations

2) Make no mistake, PG13 is leaving. He MIGHT choose the 76ers, but probably LAC or LAL. Either way, OKC needs to stay in the playoffs to stay relevant and keep Russ happy. If PG13 goes to LAL, then they surpass OKC while Houston is already there. Helping Houston doesnt push OKC down any further.

I am NOT a Westbrook fan, but I think having Gordon, Anderson, and a healthy Robinson is a great fit with Russ and a better team than last year.

Don't forget DMO. Didn't want to be in Houston, got an offer from Brooklyn, then Houston matched and failed him in physicals for something obscure, sending him out of the league. Parsons was told that Houston will match any signing sheet he gets and to go shopping. Then we negged out when Dallas offered. Also, way back in the day, cheaped out on Olajuwon in his final year, so he went to Toronto. Then of course the Charles Barkley debacle. This teaches players that there's only 1 or 2 owners who you can trust on a "verbal deal". (Dallas and maybe San Antonio) No one should be leaving money on the table with anyone else just to save the owners money or for the promise of future assets. I expect CP3 to only take a paycut if Lebron signs, otherwise he goes to the highest offer.

Yep. Which is why I hope CP3 gets all he can get. Is he worth it? Who cares. I hope he gets it. All these brokeass Rocket fans being cheap with money they don't have. Morey is screwed but if that is what is promised, give him his money. Too many players getting screwed over with broken promises etc. See Isaiah Thomas.

Who is going to offer CP3 this megadeal? No one has cap space and all the other teams suck. You guys forget we are doing a sign & trade for Lebron anyway.

Cleveland wants assets back for Lebron so they can then attach those assets to help move contracts and get under the tax line.

Give Paul his money. With Paul comes LBJ and their burning desire to take down GSW.

That was not a discounted contract, it was the maximum the Rockets could offer Asik as a 2 year veteran RFA.

Hakeem requested the trade. He didn't want to be part of rebuilding.

Rockets offer D-Mo more money than Brooklyn offer. He wanted more. Rockets matched Brooklyn offer. Turn out Rockets don't have to pay the exact salary as Brooklyn offer (there is some bonus stuff going in there and Rockets don't have to pay). He refuse to show up in Houston to take his physical. He then play in New Orleans and suck.

Rockets would've match Parsons contract if Bosh actually sign with Houston. Beside that contract is hard for Rockets to trade him. Also, Rockets did him a favor by not picking up his 4th year so he get paid early.

If they max him and win one chip, it’s worth it.

Give him his max

With legalised gambling, and the rising cap his contract won't look that bad in 2022/23

That contract is only worth it if he can stay healthy in the playoffs which never has been the case...

What does their cap situation look like without bringing him back? I just can’t see investing that much into a player his age with his injury history. I’d be looking for a S&T if I’m Morey.

I’m pretty sure that you are not a burner account for Daryl Morey, because he doesn’t really play his hand like this.

LeBron may be coming to Houston; but it’s going to take some gymnastics & expert cap manipulation. Even then it is not a sure thing.

It’s better to wait and see what happens.

They should tell him to kick rocks. It would be insane to pay him nearly 50 million when he's 38. You don't give a 33 year old constantly injured point guard a 200 million dollar max contract. That's just insane. It's not like Paul has any other options. Lowball him and let him cry about it. What are you telling me players are going to refuse to sign with the Rockets if they do that? lmao

Houston has overpaid before. Lin's deal was an overpay but still a contract they could get rid of.

Super Max deals aren't.

Don't know what they paid Howard but obviously he didn't live up to it.
