Michael Porter (What If?)

Can I get some opinions on Michael Porter and how high do you think he would be rated if he didn't have the health concerns? If heathy would you consider him at #3 for the Hawks? His before his injury highlights sure look really good!!! How high would you take him now?

If he has his athleticism back AND he checks out medically, you have to take him at #3 if you're Schlenk. The Hawks haven't had someone that offensively gifted since Nique.

Without the back concerns an easy #3 for me, and a top tier player in this draft along with Doncic and Ayton.

I'd still very much like to trade pack, accumulate assets and take him at around 6 or 7, if Doncic doesn't fall of course.

If healthy, Porter is #5 - #10

Bagley and Trae are still better than Porter.

In high school he has sub par ball handling skills which made him take a lot of long 2s.

His defense is also nothing special

His athleticism is just average, his is not on the Vince or Lebron level

He is a lanky shooter, basically a 6’9 Dirk or Durant

Eh, I'd say 'lukewarm' takes. Honestly though, I'm cooling a bit on Porter. Athleticism concerns, injury concerns, etc.

We were hot n' heavy a week ago. Now'm like so-so.

I'm not hot on any of these dudes anymore. Draft fatigue probably. Can we just get it over already? :(

I posted on the wrong thread...

Hawks assistant GM Jeff Peterson on Michael Porter

Peterson: He finds ways to score the basketball in a variety of different ways. He can do some things that no other player in this draft can do on the offensive end.

He’s got good instincts. Scores off the dribble. Catch-and-shoot. He’s got range. Scores on the block, in the mid-post area, gets to the free-throw line. He scores in transition—he has long strides. Offensive rebounds. He’s able to find a way. Some of it, I’m sure, comes from being naturally gifted but a lot of it is he worked for that stuff. Just being younger and playing a lot, and getting those instincts and timing. Can’t take away anything from his work ethic in trying to perfect his craft.

Q. How is his play-making ability as a wing?

Peterson: He certainly identifies with scoring. That’s his strength. That’s why he’s on the court, to score the ball. But at the same time he’s a smart player. He knows when to make the correct pass and the correct play. He can get other guys involved, as well. It’s just, he can score very well.

Q. You didn’t get to see him in many college games and he didn’t work out at the combine. What are you looking at to evaluate him?

Peterson
: High school, Nike Hoop Summit, McDonald’s (All American Game). AAU stuff. I went to (Missouri’s) practice earlier this season. They scrimmaged against Kansas. I saw him two or three years ago at the (Nike) academy. You see these kids early and you just keep tabs on him. Now, it would be nice to have a larger sample size in college but it’s part of the game. That’s what we are working with.

Q. Do you see him as a small forward?

Peterson
: Yes. But I think he will play some power forward in certain lineups just because he can. If it’s a mismatch, absolutely he will play some four.

So what is the Michael Porter deal with his back? Was it something that indicates long term issues or just a regular injury?
