This is a ridiculous take.

we got hindsight to look at. Nobody had Tatum top 3 last year. Most places had him slotted around #7, right where Porter Jr is. They share very similar concerns..except the back surgery.

:-? Obviously somone had Tatum in the top three if he was taken third overall. Many mocks had him third overall befor the draft too, few had him as high as seven.https://www.walterfootball.com/nbadraftdata2017.php
We'll know at least what one front office thinks about Porter once he gets drafted. But how can you say they have similar concerns or make any sort of comparison with Tatum when all you have to go off of is scouting reports from highschool and maybe the MacDonalds game if you watched it. I mean Porters biggest concern is his injury and the fact there's practically no college tape to go off of. Perception out of high school is totally different than perception out of college.

I had Tatum as my top 3. Theyre pretty different prospects, Tatum was elite at creating his own shot in high school and college. His big question mark was his vertical athleticism. Porter's vertical athleticism is one of his strength and one of his biggest question marks is how will his ability to create off the dribble translate. Doesnt have much wiggle to his game and his handle is very basic.

MPJ has a unique skill set that will punish small ball nba. His highlight reel is replete of him taking shots over smaller defenders. The separation he gets from his jump shot is near unguardable. He has a polished offensive toolkit that allows him to dominate iso match ups.

I just don't think he good enough ball handling to get consistent ball separation in the next level. He doesn't have Simmons type of ball handling ability unfortunately, which makes me worried that his only advantage is going to be his height over certain amount of defenders.
Why so serious?

That was against high school players and he was a year older than a lot of high school seniors. Also highlight reels tend to only show made shots: you can hand-wave his college season due to injuries but his three-point percentage in high school wasn't particularly great either, and the NBA line is obviously much farther back than the high school line.

^ How is that not completely freaking bizarre? The Bulls medical staff gave him a physical and THAT is the report the Porters will share with the rest of the league?

Does a physical include an MRI of his back? Can the Bulls make this report ambiguous if they want MPJ to fall to 7?

Is ANY of this normal?

Maybe, Porter is trying to get drafted by the Bulls, and vice-versa.

Some Bulls fans have been saying there's a *wink wink* thing going on between MPJ and the Bulls. I never really put much stock into it, but this just adds to the weirdness of the situation.

It’s not unprecedented and if it really requires an MRI it makes sense he doesn’t want to get one every single place he goes.

Dodging medicals is a major red flag.

Does the Bulls' report presumably written by the doctor have a fiduciary duty to be accurate?

That's the question... he has a fiduciary duty to be accurate to the team that employs him... after that, he's sending out a report.

The whole thing is weird, I smell smoke but maybe I'm just letting these conspiracy nuts get into my head.

I'm not sure this is 'dodging' medicals as he is having one and this is being shared far and wide.

I'd see this as more just not wanting to waste time doing 10 medicals given how broad his draft range currently is.

He could definitely be sued by the Porters if his report is incorrect and causes MPJ to fall in the draft.
But that's only really important if the Bulls don't draft him at 7.
I'd be very careful as a doctor to do a false/misleading report. If MPJ isn't happy in Chicago, he can still sue, despite wink wink

Bulls sharing his medical probably encouraging teams higher than Bulls to draft him thus another player in the top 6 drops to the Bulls... perhaps JJJ or Bamba

Everything I've seen to this point suggests MPJ and Chicago are mutually interested, or at minimum, MPJ desperately wants Chicago, but if we could land JJJ or Bamba instead I'd be over the moon.

Chicago is in a really good spot in my opinion. They're going to get a really good player at 6 and they won't be forced to either reach or trade up, and not only that, all of the players you mentioned are really good fits basketball wise.
