Just saw celtics are worried about Kyrie walking

Chandler, Chriss, #16, and 2019 Suns 1st Unprotected & 2019 Bucks pick

for Kyrie

Suns then draft Ayton and run the following

Kyrie
Booker
Jackson
Bender
Ayton

Celtics run

Rozier / Smart
Brown / Ojele
Tatum / Hayward
Horford / Morris / Chriss
Chandler / Baynes

I'm just not a fan of how KLove's game has "evolved" since leaving Minnesota. My interest in him is dropping close to zero. I don't think he's a good fit with this young crew. Bender can stretch the floor just as well. Ayton will be gobbling up rebounds. We need defense and versatility at the 4 more than anything, and preferably in the form of a player who can be happy coming off the bench if/when Bender/Chriss takes over.

I don't see us trading for Kevin Love or him being entirely enthused about playing for the Suns. And yes, we kind of need some defense.

I agree the Suns do need defense in a major way. They also need to get better and Love might make the team better

I still have two preferred trades for the Suns. One pretty unrealistic and also since it involves LeBron or Paul GEorge - would take time to see if Houston needed to cut salary would be assuming GOrdon/Tucker for like Daniels post 7/1 when the Suns have cap space.

But realistically, my preferred trade for the Suns , will say it again :) - still involves the Hornets. I am not sure if Mitch K is wanting to help cap space next summer - but my choice would be to get Marvin Williams for either Dudley or Chandler. Williams has two years left, is 31 but had a solid season and would allow Chriss/Bender to grow into roles. The Hornet would get a bit more flexibility for next summer as Kupchak tries to rebuild that roster. Not into Batum or Zeller but Williams/Hornets 2nd rounder for Dudley/31st pick - might just work. Kupchak saves money this summer as cheaper than Williams and also Dudley is expiring next summer. Kupchak has minimal options - even with Howard expiring.

Why not keep all of those picks and just sign Kyrie, with the selling point of we have Ayton, Booker, Jackson, a glaring hole at PG, and the draft picks to get him whoever he wants to add to that?

Worth a shot to try and sign him though we won't likely have the space....not sure that package would be too enticing to Boston anyway....though they do like getting unprotected picks from bad teams.

He’s not a FA this summer if I’m not mistaken. I thought he was under contract for next year too.

He is. I assumed he was talking about waiting. But I don't think we will have room for whatever his max would be at that point. It would probably start at over $30 million. Maybe if Booker held off but I doubt they will happen. They will probably hold a press conference for the Booker extension this summer or something.

With Dallas in the draft spot they are in, already having a shiny new pg from last year, possibly still coveting Deandre Jordan if he ops out, and Tj Warren working out with Smith jr (I know, a lot of ifs and maybes) could relieving them of salary ( Barnes) and a combo of picks and players convince them to trade out if Doncic slides?

I think with the money we will get from Chandler/Dudley/Sauce all expiring (assuming we pick up Sauce’s guaranteed money for this upcoming season), shouldn’t we have one max slot open next summer even if Booker signed his extension this summer?

Or would one of Warren/Knight still need to be moved for that?

I figured it all out on capulator a while back, but it would require a lot of things to happen for us to even carve out like $20 million, including:

Letting all the non guaranteed guys go (Ulis, Sauce, Peters, Reed, etc)

Not signing anyone this summer for more than one year.

And stretching Knight.

And when I figured it out I think I was using the salary of the 4th pick slot, not the 1st.

Basically, if we sign Booker to his extension AND sign any other FA for more than one year, it would be difficult to create max space, though there would be other things you could do like just Bender or Chriss or Warren purely for space.

And if we trade picks for players or anything that will take away their space.

When I figured it out, it was only like $20 million that I was able to get to, and Kyrie's max will probably start out around $30 +or more, considering he falls into the 7-9 year max slot (starts at 30% cap). https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2018/03/early-maximum-salary-projections-for-201819.html

We'd also probably have to trade our 1st round pick next year because there would be a hold for that.

I just am not sure they can get to the 9+ year max slot.

They already have max cap space. I think they are pretty committed to Barnes. If Doncic is there I think they draft him and may throw Boogie a max..they are one rumored team with interest.

Then they'd try to compete with DSJ/Matthews/Doncic/Barnes/Boogie and Dirk

I think the suns are basically forced to do something with the expiring contracts they have this offseason, or at least by the trade deadline. Letting Chandler/Dudley expire doesn't leave them with a whole lot of cap space to go after anyone significant, especially if we will be in need of a backup C and possible a PF, backup SG, and a starting PG.

From what I've read of the trade board, the consensus is Love is worth expirings/mid first/young guy. I'd be willing to kick the tires on a trade for him for the right price. And if we could add someone Dragic we'd be in a decent spot for a couple of years.

But, I would do almost anything to trade up for Doncic, and then add Dragic this offseason.

Anyone check out the Trade Board where someone has us getting Kyrie, Boston getting Lebron, and Cavs getting picks. I would certainly do that deal.

Irving / Knight
Booker / Reed
Jackson / Warren
Bender / Chriss
Ayton / Williams

We could be a playoff team if Irving stays healthy!

I saw it. Looked a little too good for us but even though it felt lopsided it didn't really seem terribly lopsided in a bad way for the other teams...

To Boston
-LeBron James

To Phoenix
-Kyrie Irving

To Cleveland
-2019 Sacramento 1st (15-30 protected) or the 2019 Memphis 1st
-2019 Milwaukee 1st
-2021 Miami 1st
-Tyson Chandler
-Marcus Morris
-Abdel Nader
-Semi Ojeleye
-Guerschon Yabusele

I don't think Boston will move on from Kyrie though.

Doesnt' look bad from our end. We give up a lot less than the package over last summer. Boston might be giving up a bit though but for LeBron, it's probably underpaying. Cleveland get a helluva deal for a team that should be getting nothing. Agreed about Kyrie. I don't think he's leaving Boston, too much potential there and I can't see a better fit for him.

I doubt it. Dallas was once trying to win in Dirk's last years but that has passed. They are full on rebuild right now. I doubt they would pass on Doncic at all. Also, I don't think they view Barnes as bad salary enough to dump this pick in this draft. I think maybe if we offered the Miami pick, Bucks pick, and our next 2 picks unprotected they may trade Doncic. Aside from that I doubt it. That said, I would probably do that deal, but I am super confident in both Doncic and Ayton, and I think if we somehow ended up with both along with Booker, Jackson, Chriss/Bender that is about as perfect a rebuild lineup you can make.
