Tatum is the best Celtics prospect I have seen since Bird, and one of the two best Boston sports prospects I have seen since then. The other is Gronkowski, and that was only starting in his second training camp.

Barring injury, there is not one chance in one thousand that Ben Simmons ends up better. That's just free money. Will also be better than Pierce, Melo, TMac and Vince.

Coming from the ultimate realist, btw. Should have been obvious very early on. For his part, while I am happy with him as the 3rd pick in 2016 and happy with his progress, Jaylen doesn't even rate in this conversation.

I don't think he looks a better talent than TMac or Carter. But neither did Pierce and he ended up with best career of all of them. His impact at 19 is most like Melo who was only 1 of 4 you mention to lead a team to an excellent regular season and into the playoffs as a rookie.

Jaylen is the least skilled of these 5 guys but is closest in talent level to Vince so I wouldn't dismiss him so easily until he plateaus. In the long run he could be better than Tatum because of his agility and strength and defensive prowess - I seriously doubt it but you never know.

That said, I knew Tatum was a grand slam homerun draft pick 5 minutes into first SL game. I said it here at the time and will keep saying it over and over. This guy is the future and the present. He is our franchise player. This great season we just had was all about Tatum from day 1 - he was an impact player even when he was marginalized in the offense.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Hall and Oats? Simon and Garfunkel?

Tatum is already the best C's draftee since Pierce. I wouldn't say since since Bird just yet since I clearly remember PP's first years. He came on like gangbusters from the get go and you just knew he was something special. Let's see how Jayson develops. I have super high hopes though.

Sorry Jaylen, you're John Oats; Art Garfunkel in this scenario. Super talented no doubt, but Tatum's about to go solo.

Jaylen is our modern day Al Jefferson trade chip for AD. Agree on Tatum too.

Long-time posters here can confirm that, in 11 years here, the only other NBA prospect I have hyped was Steph Curry.

Take it or leave it.

Sorry. I couldn't resist. But in reality, that's a song for Brown much more than for Tatum.

Ben Simmons quickly became the most overrated guy out there—Philly fans were pretty desparate to hype him as the next Magic/LeBron.

The reality is that hes a taller Rondo. Will be a damn good player and make some all-NBA teams but he just wont be able to impact the game like a top 5 player will. He’s not a poor shooter, hes a complete non-shooter— I believe only like 3% of his shots came from 16+ feet, which is heinous in today’s NBA.

GZA and RZA. They can play liquid swords for their intro.

“There’s a sense of pride, there’s an edge you have to have to play here. I can only imagine the love, the reception, if you hung one of those banners up. It would be incredible — it’s going to be incredible. I know it.” —Jayson Tatum
