So. We're trying to win now. Trade ideas? (3&D wings)

Post#1 » by blueadams » Tue Jun 12, 2018 10:39 pm

-I get the feeling that Casey is going to really try to highlight Blake as sort of a (very) poor-man's LeBron.
-I get the feeling that he'll be trying to optimize Dre's athleticism, sort of using him as the foundation upon which our defensive brand is built.
-He also seems to think that Reggie is a "good piece".

I'm all for trading Dre for an almost-equal perimeter player and letting Blake operate primarily as a 5. Odds of that happening.. not great.

I'm all for trading wheelchair-Reggie for anything -- ideally a more reliable PG. But again, odds of that happening.. not great.

In more realistic scenarios. We need a 3&D 3 and 2. And we have zero cap space. The assets we have to deal are not great. Picks, Kennard (3 and no D), Stanley (D and no 3), Ellenson (ugh).

Anyone got any brilliant ideas?

Trade Blake before he becomes untradeable.

There are no brilliant ideas. Only non-brilliant people who come up with trade ideas.

We have no assets beyond Drummond, Kennard, and Bullock. We cannot afford to lose the latter two, and I doubt Andre would draw us anything of proportionate value to what we'd lose.

Griffin cannot play center. The Clippers tried it. The Pistons tried it. It does not work.

Kennard is not a 3 and no D. He's a 3, a 2, a passer, a good ball handler, a decent rebounder and will be a decent D. Man will be a solid solid player.

Easy. We tape Stanley Johnson and Luke Kennard back to back and convince the NBA they are one player. On offense, Kennard is the one with his feet on the ground and on defense SJ is the one with his feet on the ground. Really good player we've got there.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

There are not a lot of trades we can do now without giving up picks or getting us in a worse cap situation. Stanley, Luke and Henry are all possible trade bait for marginal upgrades, but doesn't seem smart.

The smartest thing to do is make this team a playoff team this year. And to make us look good before the trade deadline. RJ and Blake got to stay healthy. Then, at the trade deadline, we might have some better options. But everyone's trade value is at a low point right now - the worst time to make a trade. If we can be sitting at the #4 spot by trade deadline with RJ and Blake back somewhat to their old (healthy) selves, we can start the rebuild then.

We don’t have the assets nor the desire to do the sort of rebuild moves Id like to see.

So I pray we make no trades.

Exactly this.

Ps DCintheD, has it crossed your mind newer / non-Pistons members on the forum will probably assume your username is related to Dwayne Casey coming to Detroit? Haha

This is wildly untrue.

Kennard is not a 3, he’s 6’6” with a 6’5” wingspan and abysmal athletically. The absolute best we can hope for on that end is that he’s an average team defender and below average on-ball defender. He’s a straight 2, can handle the ball a little and could become a Reddick light on offence but let’s take off the homer glasses and call a spade a spade.

Actually he has just been waiting for this moment ever since he first signed up to RealGM.

I still think this would be a great trade for everyone even tho I posted it when we still had SVG almost a month ago :)

vege wrote:Brooklyn Out: DeMarre Carroll
Brooklyn In: Kenneth Faried / Henry Ellenson / Eric Moreland / 2 2nd round picks from Washington.

They turn Carroll into 2 2nds and a reclamation project in a position of need in Henry Ellenson, while giving Kenneth Faried a new home, perhaps he would work for them, he should get plenty of playing time and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson would be able to play SF most of the time.

Eric Moreland could be waived if they want, since his contract is fully unguaranteed, however he is a solid 5th big man on a small deal, he should be worth the roster spot and the money for Brooklyn imo.

Denver Out: Kenneth Faried / lotto protected 1st round pick
Denver In: Stanley Johnson and Jason Smith

Denver saves some cap space, perhaps allowing them to bring Will Barton back while maxing out Nikola Jokic, they get rid of a disgruntled player in Kenneth Faried, and actually send him to the best possible destination in the league, a team he would have a huge chance of starting and proving himself in his contract year, more importantly, they add an underdevelped young player with high upside in a position they desperately need, and his skill set fit the team like a glove.

Detroit Out: Ish Smith / Stanley Johnson / Henry Ellenson / Eric Moreland
Detroit In: DeMarre Carroll / Denver Lotto protected 1st round pick

Detroit cash in on SVG picks that didn't work for them, before they lose those players for nothing. They turn Henry Ellenson and Stanley Johnson into a likely mid 1st round pick in 2019, they also add the perfect fit at SF in DeMarre Carroll and improve their odds of making the playoffs next season.

They create a huge hole at backup PG to fill their hole at the wing, however, a backup PG should be easier to fill than a starting SF imo.

Washington Out: Jason Smith / 2 2nd round picks
Washington In: Ish Smith

Washington add a fantastic backup PG on an expiring deal, and they pay peanuts to add him.

 I didn’t realize this haha. I first made this account back when Darren Collison was a rookie. I was obsessed with wanting to trade for him so I joined realGM and kept proposing trade ideas thinking it would do something
I guess this make more sense haha. Hope I won’t need to change my username anytime soon.

Get involved in a potential deal moving Anderson out of Houston. Leuer + Galloway for Anderson and a late 1st. We get a legitimate stretch 4 to play next to Dre or Blake while a team eats Leuer/Galloway (combined they make just under $8 mil less than Anderson over the next two years).

The "3" in 3 and D refers to shooting 3s, not the SF position.

we're not gettin any value for blake so i'd rather keep him and see what a healthy reggie/blake with drummond looks like under casey. as far as 3&d wings not sure what moves can be made maybe trade fix our bench up a bit but i like the lineup of jackson/bullock/johnson/blake/drummond come opening night.

Trading picks and young players is not the answer.

This team is built to just make the playoffs and nothing else. No need to mortgage the future any more than we have to go from a 7 seed to a 6 seed.

We should be filling in the bench with cheap free agents on 1 or 2 year deals.
