Could it be they are so desperate to keep their aging stars in Gasol and Conley (well, he's 30) that they are willing to mortgage the future for the sake of another year or two of low playoff seeding and early playoff exits, if that? The time to start the rebuild was like, two seasons ago, and counting.

If you are Memphis, would you do:

Parsons + #4 for Love+#8?

How about

Parsons + #4 for Love+Cedi?

Maybe for an all star, but you don’t tank an entire season to acquire Joe Ingles.....

......Obviously Joe Ingles is worth tanking two full seasons for.

I said months ago I thought the Grizz were the one team who would be willing to move their pick in the right package. The Jazz should be all over this. Let’s be real, the Jazz are gonna have a hell of a time getting a PG level free agent. If someone like Doncic falls to #4 I’d be willing to part with quite a bit if I was DL.

Ingles, Burks, #21, and unprotected pick next year seems like a good start. Not sure it will get it done.

If I'm the Hawks GM, I have already been on the phone with the Grizz brass offering to take #4, Parson contract into my cap space and give up my #30 pick in return. A no brainer for them to get someone like Bamba or JJJ AND Doncic or Trae Young. They would have a very young core that could be very good in the future with Collins and Prince. They would still have the 19th and 34th picks in play too. They could outbid anyone else, and I think it would be in their interest to do so.

The Grizzlies could then use their newfound cap space to work a deal for an established wing to get them back into being a serious playoff team, to maximize Conley and Gasol final years.

Jazz aren't even in consideration for this deal.

(Edit: It would be a bidding war between ATL and PHX)

I don’t understand how Atlanta offering a #30 pick is better than what I proposed?

The scenario is this, the Hawks (or whomever) absorb Parsons into their cap space (there are only a few who could do this) and offer a first round pick(s) and get #4. Memphis, which should be in win now mode with Conley and Gasol, now has cap space to chase a free agent or absorb a player (e.g. Otto Porter, Brad Beal, DeRozen, etc.) who helps them now from a team in tax and/or who is looking for a change of direction (e.g. Wiz or Raptors). Otherwise, they need to assess whether the team they have now will be able to get them where they want (playoffs, perhaps their goal is first round home court) or tear it down to rebuild, which for a small market team like Memphis is a tough, long haul.

Jazz could only give up matching players so Memphis wouldn't get the cap space to chase someone else, which makes the #30 pick from ATL more valuable than the Jazz offer. Moreover, PHX and ATL have the #16 and #19 picks, respectively, and might be willing to use them to get the #4 pick. If I'm the Hawks, I'm willing to give up #19, #30 and absorb Parsons to get #4 (I might ask for Memphis #32 pick too).

(Edit: With cap space, Memphis could also be in play for a player that a team, such as Boston, would need to unload to sign Lebron).

In other news, I am just back from California where a story about the Lakers potentially signing both Lebron James and Paul George is getting a lot of press. Hopefully it is just the usual wishful, arrogant thinking from the LA media.

I live in LA area and I can tell you that the media doesn't mention word one about the draft. It is all about who, and primarily Lebron, they are getting with their cap space and returning to glory asap. The expectation is that if it doesn't happen this summer, it happens next summer.

Love-Gasol looks like a bit of a slow and heavy front line, and not very athletic. They are both very skilled, good shooters, good passers with high BBIQ and they could probably make it work on offense, but I don't know if it'll work all that well defensively. Still, moving down 4 spots won't be as terrible as moving down 17 spots. Wish we could make this happen, though.

Kawhi wants out. THAT is the type of player that Memphis would tank a season for.

I’m sure SAS is interested in Luka.

I can't say that I saw it coming but it's not a surprise either. I wonder what went on there that Leonard would want out from a franchise like the Spurs. I can't help but thinking back and be reminded of Aldridge wanting out too, until he straightened things out with Pop eventually. Did Tony Parker sleep with both of their wives too?

This is going to be Kawhi for Lonzo+Kuzma+stuff and then they gonna sign Lebron and PG13 in the summer, aren't they?

PG: Josh Hart
SG: Kawhi
SF: PG13
PF: Lebron
C: Randle

This team can definitely give the Warriors some trouble.

That team still only has a 3 year window.

I don't think he would want to stay...I boo'd him too hard during his college days when he played against BYU. Sooooooorrrrry. Jk but seriously doubt he would stay, which the FO would likely find out beforehand.

Reports are that Ainge went after KL last trade deadline, but the Spurs were not biting. The Celtics still have the most flexibility to make a KL trade happen. And the Celtics are in the Eastern Conference. I doubt RC Buford and Pop are interested in making the Lakers great again (MLGA).

Arguing against KL to Boston, however, is the rumuor that KL has already signaled that he is open to re-signing with the Lakers. Generally speaking, however, players with one year left on their contract have not been able to pick their destination. And the Spurs still haven't heard from Leonard's camp that Leonard wants to be traded.

Man, I hope one result of this summer's player movement won't be that the Lakers leapfrog ahead of the Jazz by signing two or three superstars.

I am pretty sure he is the guy that Boston sends out, they can’t afford to send out fodder and keep Horford, Hayward, Irving, and Kawhiz
