Not that the Bucks would give it away but does this mean they are saying that they don't see Melton as their pick at 17?

Don’t know what the FO thinks, but Newton explicitly said #17 was not on the court Saturday. He also went out of his way to talk about Duval, but never mentioned Melton.

Also, when I said Melton was the stand out in scrimmage, the scrimmage itself was pretty ugly. Melton only cut and dunked (in a 3v3 environment), his shot was very inconsistent. Didn’t see him make a jumper in scrimmage. Though everyone else wasn’t all that great either. Only ones scoring were Melton on cuts and Washington post moves against smaller players.

So you're saying Melton is the pick at #17.

Why not? Jrue was picked #17

If you think Melton is Jrue Holiday then sure. Key difference here is Jrue Holiday was a top 5 recruit coming off of a very disappointing Freshman season. Melton wasn't top 100 and has had a year off.

Yeah, don't think that Melton is nearly as talented as Holiday was/is and I'm (still) not that big of a Holiday fan. Don't think he has that kind of offensive potential. As far as guys who are likely available at #17, he's further down on my list.

He's the Thon of this year. Will be drafted on length, non functional athleticism, and highlight film. I recall he had a big fan base here last year. There is theoretical high potential and then the realistic version.

Yeah I think they are about the same level of player as far as overall impact, same tier. Probably not the same level of offensive ppgz potential but he is taking some nba move midrange shots in games at the combine and in practices that show some promise. Honestly I don't care as much about ppgz or him developing an off the dribble 3pt because his super high level bbiq is going to impact the game on both ends on the team around him. I would love to add an off the dribble 3pt shooter with great handles and defense but there are none in this draft and especially not at #17. You could make the argument about Okobo and I think if you put him and Melton together in one package you'd probably have a top 5 pick. I think Melton's floor is much higher because defense matters and we've seen the impact that Brogdon has had with good defense and smart offense. Melton is a better PG defender than Brogdon and has better handles at a much younger age. I could see Okobo turning into a chucker if he doesn't work hard on his body and his game and I have nothing to go on to know if he will and only a little bit to make that call on Melton but I think Okobo's floor is not an NBA player. It's a fun argument and I wouldn't be upset about drafting Okobo as I would about say Holiday, etc.

I think that they are on about the same level of player as far as impact on the game. I've never had the time or the inclination to delve into high school scouting or rankings, but I'm sure that there is a positive correlation between rankings and nba success. I am also sure that there is a sizable number of nba players that weren't highly ranked but were successful because of their intelligence and work ethic. Melton's feel for the game, the little things that he diagnoses and reacts to in game just scream potential to me. He's fun as hell for me to watch play as a guarded off balance 3 from Curry.

I like Melton, I just wouldn't take him at 17. My only point was that I don't think Holiday goes 17th had he not been a top 5 recruit. Similar to Shabazz going 14th mostly because of the buzz around him in High School.

If the rumors of Robinson showing off 3PT range are legit, he's probably at the very top of my board. Felt the same way about BAM! last year...

I don't have Mitchell Robinson in my top 5 at 17 just because we haven't seen him much outside of a few clips. I'm glad we brought him in for a workout, one of the few players in the draft I have no clue about. If we take him at 17 I'm going to trust the Bucks and their workout process. It's an exciting pick I wouldn't be mad at.

From a tools and talent perspective he's at the top of mine, it's all the IQ and knucklehead stuff that worries. In the end it would come down to what the coaching staff thinks.
