Re: Future Draft Games
What's next?
I'd like to try the first three seasons/last three seasons idea. Or maybe first five as was originally suggested.

For me five is quite much. Even on three you get great players. Like the ideaFadeaway_J wrote:What's next?

I wasn't big on five because we did a 25-and-under game which affected the pool similarly. That was a good while back though and a lot of the current regulars would have missed it.
Three at each end seems like a fresher challenge, although maybe the later years would mostly end up getting ignored anyway.

Re: Future Draft Games
I have fallen in love with this, although it would take forever:
I suppose it’s a non-FGA, 30 team snake draft where everyone gets 12 guys? Don’t know the rules, but we could modify as necessary

Re: Future Draft Games
It’s been a while since I’ve been around on this board so forgive me if these have already been done. Here’s some ideas I had for some draft games - let me know what your thoughts are.
1. “Trade Exception” draft. Everyone is allowed one trade exception. Could make it trades for players/picks, whatever works.
2. “high school” draft. 8 man roster consisting of 2x rookie seasons(1st year), 2x sophomore seasons(2nd year), 2x junior seasons(3rd year), and 2x senior seasons(4th year)
3. “even/odd” draft. Half of the participants can only select peak seasons ending in even years and the other half ending in odd years.
4. “no lottery” draft. Players that were drafted into the NBA in the lottery are exempt from being selected.
5. “Stealing” draft. All participants are allowed 1 steal in which they can steal a player that someone else drafted.
a. Players selected in the 1st round are untouchable (can’t be stolen).
b. If a participant decides to use their steal, the person that they stole from will then immediately go on the clock to replace the original stealer.
c. Players can not be stolen twice
There should probably be challenges set forth for participants who decide to use a steal like having to work with a 75.0 FGA or having to swap their 5th and 6th round picks with the other persons 7th and 8th round picks. Something to create fairness otherwise everyone will be stealing.
6. “Small ball” draft. Only players that are 6”8 and under are eligible to be drafted
7. “Tiered Players” draft. Issue a pool of players for the participants to choose from and break them down into tiers. Assign a $ value to each tier and also assign a total $ value for the participants to start the game with and use on players.

Re: Future Draft Games
The one thing I would say is that everyone should steal a player once. I don’t want a penalty if you steal. That’s the best part!

Re: Future Draft Games
From Hawk Eye's suggestions the ones I like the most are no lottery and high school

Re: Future Draft Games
I'm intrigued by the no lottery idea, but it needs an exception to make the teams realistic IMO. There's plenty of talent but not much in the way of legitimate #1 options.

Re: Future Draft Games
Might be a little top heavy, the exception helps but the bottom half of the first round could have trouble competing with someone who has Giannis or Kawhi for example. Doing non top 15 would lose Nash Kawhi and Giannis for what it's worth

We've done more top-heavy drafts before I think, but I see your point.

Re: Future Draft Games
A no top-5 draft would be another good alternative to the no lottery format if we wanted to include a little bit more star power. Or leave it as is and grant everyone one pick exception to use on a lottery player.

Re: Future Draft Games
A teammates game, except instead of picking both players at once, every pick is a single pick - you are just obligated to take one of his teammates at some point later in the draft. Or the same concept with the big 3 draft which might make the strategy more imposing

I think there's been drafts where consecutive picks had to be teammates, in this draft you would be required to draft a teammate at any point later in the draft. Although as I edited in, it might be more unique to go with the Big 3 format

So first round you pick three players, second round you pick teammates of those three players, and what happens in the third round? Could you use one player as a teammate for multiple earlier picks.

No I meant each player is picked individually like a regular draft. For example if you take MJ 1st, you need to draft 2 teammates, but you can do it in any of the next seven rounds like taking Rodman round 3 and Kerr round 6
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change

I understand that part, but how many other players do I need to pick teammates for? I'm not clear on how it would work beyond that initial stage.
