Trade one lottery pick for Kawhi.
Sign LeBron.
Draft Shai or Lonnie.
Win Championship.
Simple as 1-2-3.

Re: Kawhi Leonard?
Clippers are a dark horse, compared to Lakers and Celtics. Even heard one report that NY was also one of his preferences.
But you would think Spurs would try to avoid trading him to a WC team.
Kawhi could say "I won't extend with such and such teams" to force the Spurs' hand. But it seems like he or his uncle won't leave $40 million on the table to sign with another team in free agency. The team that gets him can offer a $219 million deal while any other team could offer $180-something million.

Re: Kawhi Leonard?
It seems unclear at this point if he only wants to play for the Lakers, or if the Clippers would at least be high up on the list for him. I've read Lakers are his top choice, but also that he wants to play in Los Angeles which could mean different things.
He's worth a lot if you have a good chance of re-signing him (AND he's healthy.) The problem for us whether there's a trade that makes us truly competitive as a unit. I think giving up Harris and one of our #1's as the main pieces could be feasible- you're upgrading at the wing spot to one of the best wing players in the NBA (as much as we all like Tobias), but still have one #1 to improve the team.
I think the Lakers are clearly in the best position, they have a great chance of keeping him long-term, and have a few young players to put together a trade package. Some other team may be desperate enough to offer a great trade in the hopes of convincing him to stay over the course of next season.

if Doncic falls to #4, and we are willing to take on Parson's contract, a deal could be done with Grizzlies.

Re: Kawhi Leonard?
good post.
i think if you're gonna trade for kawhi you need to either keep harris and give up the picks or keep one of the picks while giving up harris. because trading for kawhi means you want to be competitive and that means he needs something solid built around him. giving up both picks and harris really undermines that.
yes, you can battle with kawhi/bev/lou/gallo/jordan (if he stays). and i'd be totally happy to see that team play. but the best teams tend to have that one extra star or a couple extra solid rotation players. moving all 3 of our best assets really puts a cap on that possibility.

Re: Kawhi Leonard?
we didn't trade away an injury prone max contract all-star, just to get a max contract all-star with a potential chronic injury. I would only make low ball offers until it is proven (and hopefully Clippers medical team won't have any part of this) that he is healthy, both physically and mentally!

Problem is, there will be a lot of competitors offering deals to the Spurs.
And most of them have more assets to give up.

I've been hearing peeps since last summer we have been on him.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

I Did My Part, Now It's the Logo's Turn
I changed my Facebook cover photo to MJ and LeBron along with setting my profile picture to Kawhi in a Clippers uniform on Thursday morning. Kawhi literally expresses his desire to come to Los Angeles publicly the very next morning.
If the front office can acquire him this off-season, it shouldn't be that hard for Jerry West to convince LeBron to join the Clippers as a legitimate threat to Golden State's dynasty.

Hell, at least they didn't mishandle or misdiagnose the injury and make you continue to play when you weren't healthy.
He'd probably love it here in LAC.

Re: Kawhi Leonard?
well duh
Sixers can top that in their sleep
The Los Angeles Clippers are willing to create a package for Kawhi Leonard built around Tobias Harris and the 12th or 13th overall pick in the draft.
Leonard is believed to prefer a trade to the Los Angeles Lakers but also has interest in the Clippers.
Sixers can top that in their sleep
They could select 10th and 26th in first round and figure out what to do with four of their second-round selections at 38, 39, 56 and 60. The Sixers could opt to decide to trade both first-rounders and a roster player to move up into the Top 5 to nab Slovenia’s Luka Doncic or Missouri freshman Michael Porter Jr. Another option would be to just trade their first-round picks to move up just a few spots to maybe seventh or eighth to increase their chance of selecting Mikal Bridges.
Or they could offer a package that includes the 10th pick, Markelle Fultz, Robert Covington or Dario Saric to San Antonio in exchange for disgruntled Spurs small forward Kawhi Leonard, a top 5 player when healthy.
Expect the Sixers to do something.
They don’t have enough room on their roster to take in six draft picks and add quality free agents. Right now, they have 11 players under contract for next season. That’s doesn’t include 2017 second-round pick Jonah Bolden, who spent last season playing overseas for Maccabi Tel Aviv of the Israel Premier League. The stretch-forward is expected to join the Sixers this upcoming season. That would leave just three full-time roster spots in addition to the pair of two-way contracts NBA teams are allotted.

Re: Kawhi Leonard?
As a casual fan that's only been following the NBA regularly since Blake's rookie season, I am totally fine letting someone else land Kawhi. I see a lot of excitement over him, but I'm not sure if people see him as the main piece for a contender or just an extra incentive for LeBron. In my view, while he's obviously proven to be a great player on both ends in recent years, the red flags are just too many to ignore. Either he has a serious injury, or he was ready to play and decided not to help his team out of spite. He felt betrayed by how the Spurs' medical staff dealt with his issues? Someone hold Jasen Powell's beer.
Plus, we've never seen him outside Pop's system. You can't tell me that a super introverted guy like that can switch to a different environment and have no problem living up to the huge expectations of a bigger market. He's about to sign his last major contract, so things could get very ugly very fast after next year.
So if we're talking about giving up picks/players, I'd rather we did it to move up in the draft. And to be completely honest, while I have nothing personal against Kawhi (who knows what really went down with the Spurs), a big part of me wants the Lakers to gut their team trading for him and end up with a total trainwreck on their hands for years to come.

Re: Kawhi Leonard?
Yeah, I'm with Dynamix, let Kawhi go to the Lakers or whoever trades for him that isn't us.
I want this team to be built properly, and for that you need to nail a bunch of draft picks before you start trading the house for an all-NBA player. I'm ok with adding top players in their prime in free agency, but only if we're adding them to a young core we already have in place, like the Celtics did with Hayward last summer. But I don't want them to trade all of that possible young core for the one guy in a desperate attempt to build a superteam out of nothing. Building a team takes patience.
We don't have a team right now, the core of our team is gonna be whatever we get out of those two picks, the rest are surrounding pieces, and I don't want to give all of that up for the one guy who's 27 and about to be a free agent.
I have no doubt the FO is gonna properly weigh their options and not rush in trading the farm for him though

i think if jordan were to stay on, then the core we have now + kawhi is pretty strong. but to me that core includes harris, so if he's outgoing then we're just not making all that great of a trade, considering the injury and flight risks.
fwiw i don't expect any trade and i'll be happy just to net two picks for two solid young guys. probably even happier if we could move up and snag doncic/bamba.

Re: Kawhi Leonard?
My question would be:
Are we planning on paying Tobias next summer? What do those negotiations look like? I would love to have him back on a solid contract, but thats a big question in my mind. Also,im not exactly thrilled with 12 and 13 right now.

Re: Kawhi Leonard?
Even if you don't like what's projected to be in that 12-13 range, they should be able to trade up with those two picks and get something interesting. I think all the Doncic doubts are mostly smokescreens and he'll be gone in the top 3, but there's a lot of reports of him falling into that 4-8 range. If they think he can be a cornerstone piece, they could target him.
And I'd much rather they gamble on that and keep building through the draft in coming years, than they trade all of that for Leonard and make DJ/Gallo/Bev the rest of the team's core for the foreseeable future.
