Re: NBA Draft 2018 6.0: Lucky #7 and 22.
I admit that last year I had serious questions about Lauri’s defense and whether he could handle the physical nature of the NBA and wanted Dennis smith as I saw him as having more superstar potential; I was pretty disappointed until we picked up Bell which salvaged the draft for me and then was pissed that we turned around and sold the pick (but I digress). I was wrong about Lauri and whether it was good scouting or just luck, they made the best choice. That said, if MPJ is on the board and GarPax passes then they weren’t confident in his back or some other flaw in his game and the same goes for young. If we end up w Mikal at the end, I will give Garpax the benefit of the doubt as I think they’ve earned it. I can’t say I agreed with every move they’ve made but I do understand why they made the move (with the exception of bell).

That's pretty much how I see things unfolding as well. MPJ goes before #7, and I just can't see the Bulls picking Young. He's simply not what I suspect they're looking for. By default, that leaves Carter. No disrespect to Mikal Bridges, but Carter seems to be the only guy outside of the "consensus seven" that has attracted interest from teams picking ahead of the Bulls. So he apparently has shown enough to work into the same conversation as those guys while Bridges hasn't.
I make zero claim to being able to evaluate college players for their NBA potential, but the draft tea leaves appear to me to be suggesting Carter to the Bulls...

Re: NBA Draft 2018 6.0: Lucky #7 and 22.
My simplified thoughts on the draft:
1. Bamba #1 on my board. Take him if he's available at #7. But try to obtain #4 and Parsons via #7 and expiring to get Bamba.
2. If MPJ is available at #7 (assuming Bamba is gone), the potential is too much to pass up; gotta take the risk and take him.
3. I'll be content with WCJ at 7 if the top talents are gone by then. I don't want Bridges over WCJ.

I didn't see anything worrying in that video. Not saying we should take much from it to begin with, but he looked fine in that video. A typical NBA talent taking advantage of his physical skills and playing lackadaisical defense. Pretty much par for the course really.
Can't deny he has a nice jumper and solid handles.

I think we are giving GarPax a little too much credit with the Lauri pick. They didn't even have the #7 pick until draft night and because of that they even said themselves he wasn't really on their draft board because he would've gone before 16. Sure they probably had scouts and what not at some games throughout the year, but they didn't evaluate him like they did others. He was purely picked because the consensus was he was BPA at that point.

Hate? What the hell are you talking about? How is not liking a prospect as a basketball player even remotely equated to hatred? WTF is wrong with some of you? I don't hate the kid. I just HATE the idea of the Bulls wasting a pick on such an obvious bust.
Bro 50 percent of your posts on these draft threads has been about your dislike of the Bulls drafting Porter. You just said you’d be sick to your stomach if the Bulls drafted him. It’s like man get over it. If we draft him it’s because Pax thinks he’s the bpa.
I’m not creating thread after thread about how Mikal doesn’t do this right, posting the same vids over and over again about the guy, saying I’ll be sick to my stomach if so and so player is a Bull, etc.
I just hope whoever we draft everyone supports as he’s now part of our family and I don’t have to hear useless posts about how he’s the wrong choice for another couple months until the season starts.
Just remember whoever we draft is no where near a finished product. Go Bulls!
I have not created any threads either... Most of my posts are in response to people acting like this kid is the next coming of Kevin Durant. I've posted that game for the first time. Somebody else posted it last time, I just responded to it. Since it's the only full game footage we have of him in an actual game I think it's relevant in a draft thread like this one. Especially when it was last around was a few weeks ago not even in this thread.
I'll keep bashing the prospect of that pick until we make it or don't . So, get over yourself and get used to it. Sorry I'm not as agreeable on the matter as over 50% of the board. It's a big wave to have to fight. I'm not comfortable with him as our pick at 7 or 22. I think it's a waste of a draft pick. One we wasted an entire season losing for. So, it's a big deal to me.

I only watched the first 15 mins of the 39 mins video and unless he sucks from the point I stop on I don’t think he looked bad at all. So I guess I’m a troll. Also FYI NBA execs love his talent too. So I guess they are trolling too

Did you watch the whole thing. How can you not deny his handle and J from that game? His handles suck bad. His shot looks pretty awful too. His defense is otherworldly bad. And look at the kids he's playing against other than Bagley. He gets blown by by a couple of no name kids who are working at Burger King right now. The only three guys in the game who anybody has ever heard of were MPJ, Jontay and Marvin Bagley. Porter should have been as dominating as Bagley was. Bagley looks like a star and jumps out at you. MPJ wasn't even noticeable until the last couple of minutes.

His jumpshot doesn't look bad, his shot selection does; he takes a lot of off-balance fades. The most worrying thing out of his tape I've seen is definitely his playing posture. His dribble is far too high because of it and his defense is terrible because he doesn't sit into proper stance.

The first 15 minutes I thought Porter took what was available and though simple found the open guy. I counted 3 assist might of been another one I missed but def had 3. Look I get if you don’t like him as you don’t need to agree with people but to call people trolling because they don’t agree with you is pretty immature.
I like him and will be the first to admit I was wrong. in the draft it’s all a crap shoot. I don’t see this draft as a LBJ draft or even a Derrick Rose draft. What I mean is 1-7 is good for me, but no one separates themselves and it’s really in the eye of the beholder.

That's how I see the top 10 unfolding with news that the Kings or Griz would still be willing to take MPJ regardless of health concerns.

I think people overrate the heck outta Bell. People act like we traded away some future all star. This guy looks like a decent bench player at best and when he does more please let me know. There will be a guy like him in every draft from here until they stop doing the drafts so I will never be bummed about that type of player and passing on him like next year you can't find a similar player.gmoney2 wrote:I admit that last year I had serious questions about Lauri’s defense and whether he could handle the physical nature of the NBA and wanted Dennis smith as I saw him as having more superstar potential; I was pretty disappointed until we picked up Bell which salvaged the draft for me and then was pissed that we turned around and sold the pick (but I digress). I'll reply here, since Ralph and I have similar opinions on what we saw.
Honestly, I thought he played fine. It reminded me a lot of crappy AAU games. No flow, no defense by either team, no actual plays called outside of trying to dump it to their best player (MPJ here). I didn't think Bagley jumped off the screen anymore than MPJ. They both looked like the best players on the court and to me, thats why the video didn't concern me. Bagley is undoubtedly a top pick this class and if I want to just use this video to prove a point, well, it proved MPJ should be too.
High school videos.......I hate even commenting on them let alone trying to leverage them for much more than fun viewing.

Yep that's the one. I was skeptical, but then i saw this and firmly wanted nothing to do with him. Agree with you all sentiments. For a guy who's being billed as a special scorer, he doesn't flash any traits of the kind other being able to use his height to rise up over shorter defenders. But then even he bricked a lot of his shots. And this is against D1 caliber players. I just dont get it.

He got minutes in the finals. He looks like a contender-level role player. That would have made him probably our 2nd best player after Lauri going forward (hopefully 3rd after the #7). We could have had him on a cheap 4-year deal.

The shot selection in this is awful. Everything that isn't in transition is contested and low percentage. Really not much different than how LaVine played last season or how Porter played in the few games at Missouri. Even when he makes it you're not really impressed.
