Is DeAndre Ayton the consensus #1 Overall Draft Choice?

Post#1 » by OrangeBlueSkies » Mon Jun 18, 2018 5:05 am

I know it’s not an easy question... but am I the only one who thinks Mo Bamba will be better than Ayton?

And am I the only one who thinks Mo Bamba won’t necessarily be the best player in the draft ?

The crop in this draft is just so dynamic, I’m betting that Ayton does not fit as well in the new NBA as others may think.

Many here had Fultz as the #1 overall draft choice...

Also, is Doncic the white James Harden?

Offensively, I think Ayton will be great. At worst, he's an athletic PnR guy. At best, he's got AD-esque upside as a scorer.

Defensively, I'm not so sure. Didn't impress me at U of A, and bad defensive bigs are disastrous.

I think he has the most support but not sure he's quite consensus.

I still think there are people who believe Doncic could be worthy of the #1 overall especially given how the game is played today.

Bit too many questions but he should go 1 because where the bloody hell is he playing in Phoenix. You honestly do not want Booker as your primary ball handler thats for sure.

I like Bamba, I think any team that gets hi. Will be happy to get him, but I would take ayton at 1.

Its a huge red flag for me, when someone with Aytons body cant dominate the defensive side in college. His defense gives me KAT/Okafor vibes, I would stay away from him.

I don't know.

I don't think Ayton, Bamba or Bagley have the potential to ever be a number one option offensively for a team, while a guy like Doncic has. I could totally see Ayton get like 20 and 12 in the regular season, just based off his physical tools and good skillset, but when the playoffs come around, I just don't see him having the ability to successfully carry the load offensively. A good defensive scheme can probably render him ineffective. He'd be great playing off another player as a 2nd option, but I just don't see him as that MVP type of first option. This holds true to a even higher degree for Bamba and Bagley. Just not skilled enough offensively.

Doncic, I believe, could end up like a worse scoring but better passing version of James Harden. A guy who at 19 already has the size, ball handling and craftiness to get to the basket, a great step three pointer and really great court vision and bball IQ to find his teammates.

These type of threads can actually be very useful few years later when looking back to see how the consensus (albeit a small sample size) was regarding the top of the draft at the time. Hope the mods don't lock or merge since GB gets the most traffic on this forum.

People said the same thing about Drummond.

Ayton will go number 1.

What is your point? Drummond is a pretty average defender at best.

No. His defense improved a great deal since he came into the league.

I wuoldn't pick him with the first - imho there is too much pressure on every 1th and even a decent career is seen like a bust. Or I wuold draft someonelse like Doncic (low risk), Porter (high risk) or I wuold trade down a couple of spot (Atlanta is in a sweet spot, for example) and pick him if he slip.

you can never have enough wings in today's game. Bigs can be played off the floor, wings can't, unless we're talking about older dudes
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

Centers are thing of the past, i don`t know why so many bigs are projected to go in Top 6 of the draft, but i think this is huge mistake.

I’m convinced the Ayton buzz is a smokescreen. It just makes too much sense for them to pick Doncic. But their goal is to try and get someone to trade up for Ayton since teams can’t resist a good big man.

Doncic has that "basketball prodigy" feel in him for what it's worth and so I'd be picking him 1.

Honestly it’s like putting Einstein’s brain into Dwight Howard’s body. But does he have heart to continually improve?
