If this happens without Kawhi saying he will stay long term...

I will stop watching NBA basketball until Warriors are done and LeBron is retired.

You don't trade franchise changing picks for someone who will bolt...

This also better mean LeBron has told James Jones he will join...

Are you saying that LeBron will be joining the SUNS?

No no

What in saying is Kawhi will not just flip his choice and say he will stay on the Suns without another star ringing him telling him he will join him.

And James Jones is close to LeBron James.

So if Suns are willing to sell the top pick in this draft... And assets... It would mean Kawhi and his camp agreed to stay long term.

It also means that Kawhi has incentive to pick Suns over his home town of teams. (Clips and Lakers)

Yeah, as much as I love JJ, if we turned just him and the #16 into Leonard, then it is totally worth trying. But not all of that plus the number 1.

It really seems like the ONLY way the Suns would do it if it was a extend sign and trade or something...not even sure that is possible. Or maybe it's pending physical and we are going to fail it no matter what, back out of trade, and blow it all up and screw it all up for the Spurs, Lakers, and whoever else wants Kawhi....

I also have a sinking feeling that Leonard will just be shipped to wherever the Spurs want him to go. Yes, he prefers the Lakers and Clippers, but Pop and co have no obligation to anyone but the Spurs. I could see the Suns foolishly taking a risk and trading for him without a commitment to sign long term.

Also he isn't even young. Granted, we do have a heck of a training staff

Also, we would need to send out a bit of salary for this to happen...so we would have cap space. Maybe it would mean we had someone else lined up. James Jones goin to work?

Bordow already said the Suns won’t trade #1 overall for Kawhi. And if you read his article, you can tell he was relayed that information from someone high in the rankings like a James Jones or maybe Sarver himself.

Y’all are tripping over nothing.

Do you think LeBron told Jones that he wanted Kawhi?

Yup

I love Kawhi... And would actually consider trading Booker for him one on one if he would stay long term..

But Pick 1 and JJ... 2 potential Stars

For 1 year of Kawhi is NUTS

So can Spurs extend Kawhi now at 219 million for 5 years and then trade him immediately? Or does it need to wait????

They would need to wait but I'm not sure if its a whole year or just 120 days.

He's young enough... 2 years older than Warren.

This is crazy.

I can't even fathom Suns doing this without assurance of long term commitment...

What's this? McD trades and then leaves to join Spurs or something???

I never believe things like this will happen but I do believe the only possible way we would even think about trading the #1 for Kawhi is if LeBron said he would sign here if we got Kawhi. Kawhi could still leave though.

But we'd probably have to then use some picks to dump other contracts, stretch Knight, etc, to make everything fit.

I'd rather play the long game and watch our young core grow.

I doubt anything is happening but it's all very strange.

I have read about certain extend and trade deals though...but it could have been in previous CBA. It would likely be at what WE could pay though.

Worst case scenario is that LBJ and Leonard come and take up all of our cap space and then we cant sign Booker and then they all leave next year. I dont know if that's how the money actually works i'm just dreaming up terrible scenarios

Return to Phoenix Suns
