Nah.

Nobody wants to talk about that.

Just bring it up in 18 months if MPJ's still struggling to produce on the court.

I'll even do the leg work and dig up your old posts if necessary.

Serious, heart breaking news on the DONCIC front, guys:

Spoiler:
Doncic will leave for New York on Wednesday, sources said, and will be one of 20 players sitting in the green room at Barclays Center. His mother and grandmother also will be sitting at his table, as well as his mother's boyfriend, sources said.

Mother Doncic is already taken?!?!?!?

The danger of us suddenly being the favorites to take Doncic at #3 is that another team may desperately overpay SAC for the opportunity to jump ahead of us and grab him.

The ACB title is just the latest this past season for Doncic, who already had won the Euroleague championship last month and Eurobasket in September with the Slovenian national team. He was named MVP of both the ACB and Euroleague regular seasons, as well as the Euroleague Final Four.

Doncic is slated to go third overall to the Hawks in ESPN's latest mock draft; ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Tuesday that the point guard has emerged as the leader on Atlanta's draft board.

This is a terrible shot that helped clinch a huge game.

I'd go bonkers if I saw Luka putting up stuff like this in a real game...

The Stepien scouting site lists Luka Doncic as unquestionably the most talented prospect from this draft:

1. Luka Doncic

Luka Doncic has nothing left to prove. Based on statistical translations, he very well could have been a top-30 NBA player this past season, at least by BPM. It’s hard to stay away from hyperbole when describing Doncic, but there hasn’t really ever been a prospect like him. True initiators who are at least 6-foot-8 and who are even capable shooters from 3 basically don’t exist. LeBron James and Larry Bird are really the only examples of players who were this type of prospect at a similar age. This is not to compare Doncic to either but rather to contextualize the gravity of who he is, at his age.

There are legitimate questions about his burst, explosiveness, and conditioning. He’s not the perfect prospect. But Doncic doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt that other players in this class do (likely because he’s an international prospect). Deandre Ayton is routinely compared to Hall of Famers, but many act like comparing Doncic even to a player like Gordon Hayward is optimistic.

Between his masterful skill level, elite basketball IQ, and size, Doncic can be one of the NBA’s best primary initiators and a two-way contributor thanks to his strength, awareness, and hands on defense. That is the mold of a player who becomes the best player on a title team. Doncic has a ways to go before he is ‘the guy’ on a championship contender, but of all the prospects in this class, I think he has the best chance of becoming that player.

What's the point to compare Doncic at 19 with "prime Joe Johnson" ? Just compare him with Joe Johnson at 19
Sure Joe, even younger, had more athleticism, but if Joe had the winning passion of Kobe or Jordan, and with better support or better coaching during his prime, he would have been a beast. He had all the natural gift to be a mega-star

Yaassss D21! If Doncic can turn into prime Joe with more of a winning mentality I'd be over the moon.

I Stan for Joe Johnson: the second best Atlanta Hawk of all time as far as I'm concerned.

Dominique, Pistol Pete and Mutombo are Hall of Famers.

The line starts after them.

NOTE: To be fair...Iso-Joe is likely the single most talented Hawk of the 21st century.

Is Pistol a HOF for what he did in Atlanta? I never thought so.

Deke is a Rocket and doesn't belong in the HOF in the first place.

All in all, the fact that JoeJohn is in the pantheon on Hawk greats isn't something I'm necessarily proud of but ... I mean, he did some thangs while he was here.

Pistol Pete was a bit before my time...but he apparently avg 24 ppg and 6 apg in his first 4 years here.

I'd say he was well on his way at that point.

Mutombo was a shell of himself in Houston. His best/prime years were in a Hawk uniform where he won 3 of his 4 DPOY awards.

Here in Atlanta, Dikembe was All NBA, All Star and All Defense multiple times while leading the franchise to back-to-back 50 win seasons.

Deke identifies as a Rocket. You and spud trying to claim him as a Hawk is offensive to trans-team guys like him and Clyde Drexler.

Deke does think of himself as a Rocket and that pisses me off. However he is and was such a humanitarian that I will always have him very high on my list. He did things for people that we will never know.

I think a big part of that is ownership changed in ATL shortly after he left and the new regime(s) never really reached back out to him the way HOU did in the years following.

Heh, a certain dolphins fan also did things for people that we will never know but I don't consider him a humanitarian.

Seriously though, I truly admire that aspect of Deke but I view that completely separately. As a player, he's ded to me. Better hope the Rockets don't look around and think, "Wait-a minute, why's this guy up in here like he brought a rang to the city like Olajuwon or something. You ain't win nuthin' here."

Ya he should identify as a Hawks or Nugget where he started...not a washed up 40 year old with Tmac. Lol.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
