I don't see a problem with a dude who's looking to not only better his own life, but the lives of people back in the Bahamas, to say getting his second NBA contract is his barometer for success. But if he said "get more rings than Jordan" people would be saying that he's arrogant. Whatever.
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

short-term goals and milestones as a means to long-term success. He gave a non-generic answer and his stock should fall for it?

heck even JR Smith would say championship and you KNOW he wouldn't even mean it.

The average 1st round pick is will only be in the NBA for 4 years. Think about that you make your dreams come true and you are one 340+ people who make it on to an NBA team and even then the norm is that you will last only 4 years. The second contract really shows that his head is grounded in what is right not the can I make another couple million.

Kris Hanson as the voice of reason lol.

Ayton already signed a Puma deal and will be making $8 million a year...I think he already has life changing money guaranteed.

But yeah, I hope he makes that second contract too.

Hey, at least there's an indication we'd be able to re-sign him at the end of his rookie contract! :)

So that's enough money? LeBron should stop signing max contracts, because he has enough money. There should be no ambitions outside of basketball? And championships are the only barometer of success? Barkley and Nash were failures?

If he said MVP or Rookie of the Year were his goal, people would be **** on him for being selfish.

Agreed. People are looking too deep into the meaning of what he said.
The other way to look at it is, if he's successful, he'll have staying power.

Could also look at josh jackson saying he'd make the teams who passed on him pay for it. Well....Boston isn't regretting it. It doesn't matter what you say. Walk the walk...

Well, I think a lot of people might find it enough. I don't know if there is more context and I'm not taking it too seriously, but I don't think it's a good answer. If you do, great.

Sure he should have goals to have a long career. To make it to second contract seems like a strange goal to be your definition of NBA success.

http://www.latimes.com/sports/clippers/la-sp-nba-draft-clippers-20180619-story.html

The Clippers have tried to plot a course that could push them toward a better position in Thursday’s NBA draft.

They have offered their own lottery picks, the 12th and 13th selections, to make a deal to move up, according to NBA executives not authorized to speak publicly on the matter and media reports. So far they have been rebuffed in their attempts to procure a deal for a top-five pick with the Sacramento Kings (who pick second), Atlanta Hawks (third), Memphis Grizzlies (fourth) and Dallas Mavericks (fifth).

The Clippers will continue to do their due diligence and talk with teams ahead of them in the draft with the hopes of getting a high enough pick to select European star Luka Doncic, according to the executives.

Looks like the Clippers aren't having much luck moving into the top 5 with 12/13 and filling pieces

It is probably a goal a lot of prospects talk about...just gotta get drafted, prove my worth and make it to the second contract. Just haven't ever heard of that sort of goal from a top prospect as a definition of NBA success. Just a strange answer to me.

But he may be around a lot of guys talking about getting to that second contract a lot....even some of the Suns talking about it, Booker and his extension, or whoever else.

I like it because it's honest and achievable. Dudes coming in and giving canned responses is the worst part of the draft, IMO.
