#42 who would you pick?

Post#1 » by JohnReese » Wed Jun 20, 2018 6:53 am

I like some guards:
-Bruce Brown: he was late lottery last year but after a bad year his stock felt
-Svi Myhailiuk: young senior, good shooter, high IQ but he couldn’t meet the expectations
-Rawle Alkins: another shooter, good for a rotation but he is still very raw
-Allonzo Trier: pure scorer who is considered not to translate to the next level. Reminds me of Barton

Also we can try some draft&stash with:
-Kulboka: strech 4
-Yssuf Sanon: PG with great physical conditions

The third option would be to pick the promising injured guy:
-Justin Jackson: one of the most physical guys in this draft.

Isaac Bonga, Hamidou Diallo & Trevon Duval, probably in that order. I would be happy with either Bonga or Diallo, but if both off the board then Duval.

I really want to swing for the fences opposed to taking seniors like Gbenije & Hilliard. We need to draft a massive unknown sleeper, not try to find a 3rd string or backup player that won’t actually alter the course of the franchise. I understand how hard it would be to find such a player but I’m sick of seeing these older guys being taken by us that clearly have no potential.

We need to buy Atlanta's early second. Nobody at 42 matters. Guys that drop out of the late first are not making it to 42. All the guys who are fringe first types are gone before 42.

Whoever we're picking isn't going to become great so I would go into another GM's room and pick from the highest on their list and roll the dice

I hope that it's a rangy long SF. Feel like that's a big hole on the Pistons, no wings with size.

I would as well, but so will a lot of teams in the second round in front of us. Too many bad teams with multiple picks who pick before us that can take that gamble.

Names I wouldn't mind hearing tomorrow Trevon Duval, Josh Okogie (Probably won't make it to us), Jarred Vanderbilt (starting to get some hype might not make it), Justin Jackson, Issac Bonga, or Bruce Brown Jr. I wanna get on board with Hamidou Diallo, but his only basketball skills right now seem to be defense and jumping really high.

Even though the first guy I named was a PG, I really hope we take a SG/SF, since any PG we draft will likely not see the floor unless Reggie or Ish get hurt. I kept seeing a focus on backup PG (in the media at least) when the season ended (not sure if that's still the case) which is weird because we have nothing to write home about at the 2 and 3.

With all that said, we're gonna end up drafting some low ceiling undersized 22 year old Senior point guard.

I'm almost tempted to just grab Giannis's younger brother at 42...

I feel like the Raptors got a bunch of their late draft picks to play well.
Not sure whether thats on Uriji or Casey, but I'm hoping its the latter

I'll predict Rawle Alkins @42, I want Trevon Duval.

Exactly. Look at the last 2 years alone with Brogdon and Kuzma.

It's usually the guys who were pretty quiet in college until their 3rd or 4th year have a decent shot at being good players that fall to the 2nd round.

What’s also crazy is we’ll have kids drafted next year who were born in 2000...

I've changed my mind on him - he's unwilling to gamble on himself, why should we. If his shoulder was back 100% than he goes back to school to prove himself and is back in the mid-first round coming out as a junior.

I guess I'd have to interview him and hear his thinking on this. I wouldn't write him off, but he's looking at a non-guaranteed second round contract versus going back to school and getting guaranteed mid-first round money.

I think an argument could be made he is gambling on himself by entering the draft now without the guarantee of a 1st round contract.

Hard to say from the outside looking in, but I don't necessarily think that's a reason not to draft him
