Now it is time to go safe

its not as ridiculous as you think. They have Conley and Gasol they really have no choice to compete.

when you look at it straight from a salary dump...yes Lopez > Lee. When you look at it as a chance to get back into the playoffs Lee > Lopez.

none of this is getting them into the playoffs. and they could probably draft a player that will make more of a difference at 4 then courtney lee. this has to be about clearing cap space.

its about clearing Parsons albatross contract, still staying in the lottery, and getting contributing players.

I think all 3 are weighing on the decisions. Its not just cap space...

you love this dream....don't you

We just saw a Parsons level contract get moved for an expiring and 2 seconds.

I’ll take it if that happened but there’s no way I see MEM jumping down 4 slots for that offer. Too many teams could outbid us

everyone killed the Hornets for that move. And that move had more to the eye. Charlotte blows and they wanted to get under the luxury tax...They shed about 8 million off the cap this year. For an extra year of mosgov.

It still wasn't a good deal but **** deals happen when your owner is desperate to get out of the luxury tax.

Let’s compare them

To move up to #1 it cost PHI

#3 and one of two pretty much guaranteed lottery picks (except if it lands #1)

To move up to #9 it would only cost the Knicks

#9
#36
Lee
LFT
Taking on 2 years of Parsons

?

That just looks like a pathetic offer

its not even about doncic (that would be awesome if he slips to 3)

But if the top 3 go Ayton/Bagley/Doncic

I still would consider moving to 4 and taking parsons for Bamba/JJJ (depending on the deal).

Na he’s right. If Knicks get the 4th just for taking on Parson’s contract and giving up their pick then that’s a highway robbery.

You're speaking in the abstract.
What about this?

If Knicks get Doncic or JJJ just for taking on Parson's contract and giving up their pick then that's a good deal.

Exactly and Memphis gets financial freedom for a player that ain’t coming and a riskier prospect at 9. They lose that one.

Not really, Parsons' has two years left and didn't play as many games over the past two seasons that Howard played last year. Dwight still put up a double double last season while only missing one game and he is in the final year of his contract. Parson can't stay on the floor and when he does get on it he's been terrible but still has two seasons left.....very little "level" to it.

If another team wants to take on Parsons' contract and offer pick(s)+players that are better then Memphis should jump at it but I don't see any team stepping up to make that deal other than maybe Philly with 10+Saric/filler. Would they add another future first, they could since they have them but would they? Who knows although if they only have to beat the Knicks offer then 10/2nd+Saric/filler does it.

You’re comparing Parsons to the wrong person. Compare it to Moz.

Wait... is Chi really going to take on Parsons' contract just to move up a few spots? I've always known the Bulls owner to not be willing to throw his money around like that. If they are willing to take it on then they will and what can the Knicks do to change it, nothing.
If you'd rather see your team fail so you can be right
...you are a fan of your opinion not the team.

If we do trade up to #4 watch us take Porter Jr.

Oh, did the Celtics also dump a $50mil/2 year contract on a player who is injured all the time by moving down in that deal? No? Then that cost to swap picks isn't equated with a deal that does involve such a salary dump.

This is very significant for a small market team who is looking to reallocate their salary and maximize their playoff window before their vets get too old, it isn't nearly comparable to the pick swap you cited.

GOOD post. You nailed it.

Your standard for nailing it is extremely low

Trading the #3 pick and another guarantee lottery pick in is equivalent to the #9 pick, two role players and taking on two years of bad money??

That’s nonsense.

Immediate or in 2019?

Because if it’s 2019, the market has been set. We give 2 2nds and take on an expiring deal.

plenty of team can outbid us. absolutely right. that's why i don't lose sleep on this one.

is mozgov the parsons-level contract above? in which case, he came with 2 seconds. wasn't moved for 2 seconds.

BKN moves a Parsons level deal for two seconds meaning it cost them two seconds.

And it def is. There are 4 of them - parson Deng Moz Noh

Mozgov has 2 years 32m left. Parsons has 2 years 50m left. The contracts are not comparable.

Look who's been a' scoutin' this year.

I'm pretty high on Bamba too. He rebounds. Like KP, he also needs to improve his base.

Doubtful, chances are he's close to his peak at his age. Mikel's problem is his inconstant shot and hitch, his slight frame as I don't think he'll get much stronger...very limited back to the basket game
