If he opts in yea, cuz his salary becomes guaranteed.

I thought so. Not sure why the option isn’t being discussed to offer Kanter or pure cap space to Mem (after July 1st). I know they want to improve, but pure savings or an expiring has to be pretty attractive. And Kanter might opt out if he knows he’s getting traded if he opts in. I wonder what the union would think of that?

I think if we traded him as soon as he opted in, it’d be fair game. But from what I’ve read, he appears to not want to make a decision before the draft, so he holds all the cards. Guy is like a gf who doesn’t get the hint we wanna break up, and I doubt Mills or Perry would tell him we don’t want him any more and that he should just opt out asap n go elsewhere July 1st.

How does that work? He's under contract right now. He has to choose to opt OUT...not in. We could trade him right now....no? Then he can figure out what he's doing after? Offer him MFLFT and 9 and that's 24mil in savings next year and possibly...Kanter opts out saving them almost 19mil this year plus the added luxury tax.

I don't know. I can't wait until we're all flipping out over the pick later....one way or another.

He's 100% waiting until after the draft to prevent being dealt as an expiring, but what I'm saying is the Knicks could certainly offer Memphis the option of Kanter plus 9 and 36 after he opts in, or in the event that he opts out a crap ton of cap space plus a small filler and 9. Whether that is attractive to Mem or not I;m not sure and probably depends on if they think they can lure a free agent and still get their guy at 9.

Looks like ESPN’s analytics has Mikal as the 5th best overall, highest potential steal, and 2nd highest All Star chances. Not too shabby.

Here's the thing.

The Knicks need to stop thinking, KP is going to be the #1 option. If you look at the Warriors, there is no clear #1 option. That's archaic thinking. Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant can take over a game at any time. Sure, Durant maybe the most talented but if you look at the game play, it's balanced.

The Knicks need to stop hanging the shoe horn on ONE guy. That's the 90s. Ain't the 90s no more. They need to think Option A. Option 1A.

Therefore it would be incredibly disappointing if the Knicks stand pat because I guarantee you...Boston, Philly, Cleveland are all looking to trade up and PUSH open the gap between the Haves and Have nots WIDE OPEN GAP.

The Knicks are not going to close the gap at #9.

The Knicks are not going to attract any free agents.

The Knicks will not be top 5 draft material next season.

I really, really hope Mills and Perry are not this complacent or it'll be another mediocre below .500 season with the Knicks.

curry drafted at 7, thompson drafted at 11, draymond drafted 2nd rd. make up your mind, building like the warriors means making good picks at the spot you pick.

Woj has no info on the Knicks.

Yeah but I'm sure his source is Bamba/Bamba's agent and he is making an assumption based on the intel he received.

maybe so but since nothing is official until probably the grizz are on the clock maybe the knicks advised bamba's team to stay quite because if it got out that if they had a deal in place and some other team wanted bamba they might offer more or jump the knicks. The likely of trading up was very small as it is, but WOJ saying this doesn't really effect anything. If anything deny deny deny usually means there is something going on in the background.

Isnt that the likely outcome regardless without KP for a good bulk of the season?

if we stay at 9 mikal should be the pick.

I just heard he picks up full court without being asked to and loves playing defense. Celtics looking at him to replace Smart.

As much as we need a game changer, we can’t whiff on this pick either. Odds are severly stacked against us that we will find a game changer at #9. It’s possible, just not likely.

Find a solid starter and it’s a good pick.
