Dre spending the off-season working on his dribble game...
Kid has all the physical gifts to dominate in the low post and he wants to be a point guard.

Re: Dre spending the off-season working on his dribble game...

So we've now seen him practicing 3's and his ball handling this offseason.
Guess he's taking over for when Reggie gets injured at some point

I think he wants to be Blake Griffin.
I mean we do constantly hear that the traditional center is obsolete, so he's hearing that too. And Casey said he lets the players do them and play and make mistakes - so maybe Dre might try this stuff in games. And Casey was hired in part because in post-season meeting Gores had with players they said they wanted a coach who listened and took their input. And Casey went on about doing just that in his presser as well.

Laugh for now but just wait Andre will be shooting 40 percent from three on 3-4 threes a game and shooting 80 percent from the free throw line.

Uhhhh why wouldn’t you want him working on this? The NBA has changed. Name a pure low post player in today’s NBA on an even semi decent team. Drummond has always had underrated ball skills that were never properly utilized. No ones saying he’s going to bring the ball up the floor, but give him a developed midrange and comfort with a couple dribbles and he’s taking another leap. He was never supposed to be a back down player. He was always more of an Amare than a Dwight.

I think I would rather see this then more low post moves. We all cringe with the hook shots. Keep attacking the rim and moving the ball

Re: Dre spending the off-season working on his dribble game...
I'll take 100 3s from Andre next season than 100 stupid *** hook shots he consistently misses. I mean Idk how those hook shots don't go in but I think it's either you got it or you don't, it's a feeling. So maybe a long range shot is his feeling. Taking 2-3 jumpshots a game is better than his 4-5 missed hook shots. We have a BEAST low post scorer named Blake Griffin. Let him handle the inside. Whatever opens up the court for either players.
Defense wins championships

I’d love for Dre to develop more of a perimeter game, I’m just skeptical.

Re: Dre spending the off-season working on his dribble game...
People put up video of the team phenom, during the offseason, working on his basketball skills, and people nitpick? Drummond's FT improvement convinced me that something clicked, and he cares about his place in the game. I'm expecting him to look a lot better this season, and to finally see lifted the 'pall of pessimism' that has permeated this board for too long.

Winnng will see that “pall” lifted.
Why would anything else?

This is a good thing. I think Andre has always had a better feel for the game as a face-up player. It was Stan that was trying to turn him into Dwight Howard.
I would not be surprised if they actually get him shooting threes once or twice per game by the end of next year. Like everyone has said... the game has changed.

Phenom. Drummond might possess the greatest set of physical tools for the game since Shaq, and qualifies as an athletic phenom. He's clearly the best rebounder in the league. What the team needs from him is a little more edge. Play to that special blend of quickness, speed, and power. Yes, they need to win. As Gores said, "you're only going to love us if we win." I guess Drummond showing off the fruits of his labors is fine with me.

The concept may be a bit dated, but I've always preferred back-to-the-basket bigmen. Even at his offensive peak Dirk didn't draw the sort of doubles or collapse the defense the same way his more traditional counterparts did. I would *love* for Dre to use his physical gifts to overpower smaller defenders.
That said, he is clearly more comfortable with his face up game and at this stage of his career it makes perfect sense for him to play to his strengths. I'd rather see him trying to go around than through defenders, especially if it leads to an improved conversion rate within 3 ft of the basket. *shrug*

Yeah, fair. It's time for Andre to 'man up.' I don't care how he does it, but he needs to attack the hoop. If he mixes floaters with jams and drop offs all the better. It's prognostication, but a guy who starts bearing down and making that FT % jump? Something is going on. Maybe just clinging to hope.

He has proven himself a complete catastrophe in the post, and post offense is no longer a preferable source of offense in any event. Guard skills, on the other hand, are fast becoming mandatory for everyone.
A viable three-point shot will be about a million times more valuable to the Pistons than a good post game.

I would be as well if he didn't have such a huge jump in his free throw shooting, playing hard a hell of a lot more consistently, and overall seems more determined to be the absolute best he can be.Snakebites wrote:I’d love for Dre to develop more of a perimeter game, I’m just skeptical.
Ill say this;
Andre is on the verge already of being dominate and doing things not seen in 30-40 years. He adds an outside shot, and even an occasional three combined with drives to the hole his cieling keeps getting higher.
I believe he can do it.

I think anyone with the right coaching can develop a decent free throw shot. That's the same shot every time, unopposed. The other ways' he's improved have been more related to heart and work ethic with respect to abilities he already had.
Developing a perimeter game including being able to hit threes in-game is very different.

Also not just anyone can make the jump in free throw shooting % Andre did. Its up there with some of the biggest jumps ever.
We'll see though.
