Then what other assets would it take the Celtics to drop Parsons on a 3rd team?
I thought we were also told that Memphis didnt want to drop too low in the lotto this year, so is the #27 going to cut it, or do they have to make another trade (BEFORE THE MEMPHIS ONE) to obtain a high draft pick....which will also take up assets.
That is a f**k-ton of assets just to go after one guy who hasnt stepped foot in the NBA yet. Seems very un-Celtic like to me.
Well it depends on how much they like the prospect. They have Hayward coming back and have Tatum established so they might be willing to deal Brown, and I imagine that Kings pick they figure would be much better used securing a guy like Doncic or Bamba or whoever they want than waiting for next year since their time is now.
If I'm Memphis and I can get Brown and that Kings pick it seems like a good offer considering no one wants to play for them and they may not have a pick next year. They would likely get more and would have to send someone out too to match the salary.
They will still be hard pressed to move out though unless they get a great offer. As much as I want it, I don't see any way our assets are enough considering they want to compete this year and need to add something now. I love TJ and JJ but not sure they would consider those guys the guys they would want.

Re: Trade and free agency speculation
I'd be surprised. That is one that will drag out. The Spurs will not rush anything imo.

Especially when it comes to dealing with LA. If they are going to trade Kawhi to LA, they are going to wring out every drop of value they can from them and they are gonna take their time with it.

Imo, they traded for this so that they can freely trade their 1st (25) and avoid taking on guaranteed money on their rookie salary cap so they can afford 2 maxes in FA. I don't think it signifies anything with Kawhi.

I think the best play would be a draft day trade between Lakers, Cavs, and Spurs and just get it over with.

Ideally yes....but I don't think LeBron can be traded now and I don't think there is any way to future proof a trade that lands LeBron signing in LA after Leonard is traded on draft night.TheLogician wrote:I think the best play would be a draft day trade between Lakers, Cavs, and Spurs and just get it over with.
I could see something insane happening during the FA period though.
Lakers trade: Deng/Ball/Kuzma
Lakers get: George (S&T)
Cavs trade: Love
Cavs get: Deng/Ball/Kuzma
Thunder trade: George (S&T)
Thunder get: Love
_____________
Lakers trade: Lopez (S&T) Picks
Spurs trade: Gasol
Lakers trade: Ingram
Spurs trade: Leonard
Lopez trade would be mutual enough to keep the Spurs/Lopez happy and allow LA to have enough money to absorb the remainder on Leonard's contract and sign LeBron.
----------------
Not to say this would happen....but I think LA has the number crunchers working on insane ideas that nobody anywhere has even thought of. LA does have assets that I haven't seen by anyone utilizing....and I wouldn't put it past them to manipulate cap rules to make something crazy happen, no matter how much it costs.

Re: Trade and free agency speculation
Just putting a few reports together I think a trade like this could work.
Suns trade: Chandler, Warren, Chriss, #16, #31
Suns get: Parsons, #4
Grizzlies trade: Parsons, #4
Grizzlies get: Derozan
Raptors trade: Derozan
Raptors get: Chandler, Warren, Chriss, #10
76ers Trade: #10
76ers get: #16, #31
Suns: The obvious. Doncic, Bamba or JJJ
Grizzlies: They get out of Parsons’s deal while simultaneously acquiring a star player to help them compete with Conley/Derozan/Gasol
Raptors: Reports are that the Raptors are very much interested in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and he should be there at number 10. Derozan and Lowry have been said to be “very much available”. This is a rebuild package for them.
76ers: Reports are they are interested in Zhaire Smith at #10. Most mocks have him picked after #16. They get their man while picking up an extra pick.

Re: Trade and free agency speculation
Spurs will trade Leonard to an east team probably Celtics... So they can throw everything they have against Warriors and hopefully win a ring... Leonard can either leave a championship team or extend with them....
He's going to either redeem himself somehow to a more hard core set of fans that will defend him until he retires (Celtic fans) and get close to a good coach like Stevens... Or walk away and join Lakers in which he will be the most hated player ever... More than Durant and LeBron as he will ha e Spurs and Celtic fans on his back...
Trade wise I can see Brown, Kings pick.... As Celtics sacrificial for a championship ring chance.

Re: Trade and free agency speculation
The Chandler Parsons (Trade) Project -- based on rumored teams
Celtics: they really don’t have expirings to match to save the Grizz long term cap space. So, Celtics would need to shift Parsons to say the Bulls and give the Bulls players/picks to take Parsons and trade with the Grizz the same for #4. Long shot
Magic : can flip Isaac and 6 for 4 but what about Parsons contract. Vucevic and Ross are expiring so would save year 2 cash but still have 23m this year. Fournier has 51/3 compared to 50/2 but over the life of the deal – would probably cost the Grizz more as need to probably take a bit more salary this year as Founier is at 17m and Parsons 25m
Mavericks: this team is interesting the one to watch. Wes Matthews and two unguaranteed deals should make the salaries match work. Grizz would save close to 30m over 2 years as Matthews expiring. Flip 3 and 5 and maybe a future first from the Mavs. I can see this one getting done
Nuggets: Faried, Darrell Arthur, Jamal Murray and 14 for 4 probably works from a deal perspective. But maybe not a Grizzs pocketbook perspective Faried and Arthur are expiring so would save there. Murray would need to be paid. Some cash savings and Murry/14 for 4 might be good compensation
Suns: I can come up with Dudley, House, Williams and Ulis for Parsons – would be cash savings, if my math is right of around 40m. When you count that only Dudleys 9.5m is guaranteed. Tough part is compensation – 16, Bucks Pick Heat pick for 4. Do the Suns add Bender to the Grizz to give them a low cost low risk player or does that hurt the deal!

I don't know why but I have a hunch if the suns make a move for a vet pg it will be Lowery. Insane contract but only two years and because of the contract the asset cost would be less. Gives the suns a two year bridge to try to win with the young guys then the summer of 20 they have space to try to land a big fish.
Not my favorite move just something I could see them doing.

Daniels, Dudley and Chandler work - I am guessing in a trade machine type trade. Because if the Suns are taking on 30m next year - I am not giving up Williams to also give the Raptors an unguaranteed deal
Now if you are saying: Dragic for 31 (probably would take 16), Dudley, Williams and Ulis - because at 35, I think that is worth giving the Heat an expiring asset. Dragic I think would do the same thing - expire with Knight while also helping bridge.

Man
Reading most of these just makes me hope McD sits on his hands. Draft a PG, Ink up Payton cheap and just see how things work
Tough to clean up this mess in a day.

While I think Simmons personal 'takes' have never been worse he's done an outstanding job assembling an NBA crew at the ringer and gets good guests for his pods.Frank Lee wrote:The ringer is banging it on all fronts

Hope ESPN doesn’t steal his staff away like they did with Lowe.
