#12 OA this draft or Kennard?

Post#1 » by Kilo » Mon Jun 18, 2018 12:06 pm

When the Griffin trade went down it was said Bowers fought hard to keep Kennard. Given how the rest of the trade broke down, it was assumed the protected first rounder was likely the piece negotiated in in place of Kennard. Assume for a minute that is the case - would you rather have #12 OA for Thursday's draft and have traded Kennard away? Saying "I would rather have not made the trade at all" isn't a choice in this poll.

Who would you have wanted to take at #12OA if you'd rather have shipped out Kennard. One would have to assume we'd be looking almost exclusively at 2-guards given Galloway would be the only one on our roster.

I'm happy with Kennard over the 12th pick in this draft. He looks to be a guy that won't bust and actually contributes something the team desperately needs at a high level.

I think the team would be looking at 2's and 3's if they had the 12th pick. Bullock can play either wing position. With that in mind the prospects in-play would probably be Mikal Bridges, Miles Bridges, Kevin Knox, Lonnie Walker, Zhaire Smith, and Khyrie Thomas. Eh. Any of the forwards would be okay by me, and either Smith or Thomas for the guards, but there isn't anybody I would REALLY want over Kennard.

Kennard. #12 is no guarantee of a good player. With Luke we already have a good sense that he'll be a quality player for a long time.

I'll take Donovan Mitchell....

Seriously though, I definitely haven't ever been a drinker of the Kennard Kool-aid. That said with the current information available, I'd rather have Kennard. Come draft night, I might change my mind depending on how the board looks when #12 goes on the clock.

Really though a lot of times when it comes to late lottery picks, the title of "lottery pick" holds more allure than the player actually drafted with the pick. More often than not, your looking at solid role players and borderline starters with a sizeable bust potential.

I voted I'd rather have Kennard over this pick. That said I like the two players mocked to go in that range. I feel their boom or bust types with big upside. The two I like are Shai G-Alexander hes a big pg with big time upside and Zhaire Smith. Smiths this years D.Mitch a guy whos rising up the board and expected to go late lotto.

The other 2 guys who I'm not sure will be there but very well could be are Mikal and Miles Bridges. Alot of good prospects available this season in that range. I'd still take Kennard since hes safer but I wouldnt blame anyone for liking this years pick with these guys all on board.

One of my favorite blog writers on the draft loves both of these guys. He actually is ranking Smith 4, Miles Bridges 7, and Shai 10 on his big board. I feel like were going to see a all star come out of one of these guys for sure. Also with Casey around we might actually be able to develop the lotto picks.

That's an amusing way of putting it. He "fought hard" in the process of letting the Pistons be absolutely and utterly robbed.

I completely agree with this. Now having watched him for a full season, I could see his ceiling being like a Mike Miller type who was a solid NBA player for 10+ years.

I'd rather have kept the pick and Toby Harris and flipped Avery Bradley for any future draft picks, first or a second rounder.

But, no, a big fat idiot had to try and save his job. Failed, as expected, and now we have the poopoo platter to enjoy.

I'd rather have Kennard that the 12th pick in this draft. We know what Kennard is. But, I'm not high on this draft class at all.

I'd take this draft hands down, blindfolded. I'm s defense first guy, there's plenty of two way wings that will be better than Kennard:

- Miles Bridges
- Zhaire Smith
- Donte Divicenzo
- Lonnie Walker
- Kevin Huerter
- Josh Okogie
- Elie Okoboe (pg)

Any of those guys would affect the game on both ends with more length and athleticism than Kennard.

This draft is not only super deep, it might one day be ranked in the top 10 drafts in history a few spots under 84, 03, 98, 2011. This years draft has a great combination of generational talent (Ayton/Doncic/Jjj), and lots of underrated potential stars if given the right opportunity. SVG really set this team back, with no Donovan Mitchell last year, and no "next Donovan Mitchell" this year. Sorry it's a stars league. Injury prone stars don't count.

Unless they bring back Arnie (who SVG also got rid of), it's going to be a long while before Detroit sniffs the NBA finals again.

I’d rather have Michael Porter Jr even with his injury risks over Luke Kennard. Go big or go home!

Yep, if Michael Porter jr is there, it just adds salt to the wound

And it certainly appears he’s going to be available. Every time I start to think it can’t get any worse for us something else presents itself and proves me wrong.

Something else that has me thinking, of LAC were so desperate to get rid of Griffin, surely we could have held out to get their pick while still keeping ours. There was no market for him and being LA cap space is actually important to them. Imagine going into this draft with two picks in the late lottery. f*** me

I'd still take the chance on MPJR barring him still being considered a top 15 draft pick. If he falls late first he obv wasnt worth it. This is the worst draft day in years sitting home with no draft pick and Blake Griffin instead.

Well I reserved the right to change my mind depending on how the board fell, and yep I'd rather have MPJ a million times over Kennard.

Kennard is going to have to become one helluva player, because he's going to constantly be compared to the woulda/coulda/shoulda beens of Donovan Mitchell & Michael Porter Jr.

Porter would of been the perfect fit next to Drummond. Hes the exact style of 4 we needed. This one hurts man.
