I like the unprotected pick, but hate the trade itself. Zaire Smith doesn’t fill a need, needs lots of development, can’t shoot that well, and will be behind Ben, TJ, and Markelle.
Think about it. We could’ve had MICHAEL PORTER JR! He’s the definition of a Hinkie pick. He could be the best player in the draft and he went 14th because of a temporary injury. That’s a better trade piece if that’s the way you think of it too. I liked Bridges a ton too, which softened the blow of not getting MPJ. I’m very confused and pissed off right now. Gave up two good young players to get a guy who I think will bust and a trade chip.

I was gassed on MPJ after high school too, but this is not just a temporary injury. Dude got the same back surgery that Steve Kerr got. He's only played in a few college games and looked bad in them. And MPJ is definitely not a good trade piece in the same way that Markelle is not a good trade piece. Right now, you might be getting nothing and the fact that he fell to 14 means that his medical reports must have looked really bad. I'm not sad that we passed on him.

He’s 6’4 in shoes so I see him as a combo guard. A combo guard that can’t shoot and isn’t a great shot creator.
Can’t see why he’d be a better fit than Bridges or MPJ.

with a 6'10 wing span and the best athlete in the draft... the dude WORST CASE is a way more athletic marcus smart.. hes barely 19

if that shot is for real, tho on low volume, he could be avery bradley early on.. his upside is massive

stop worrying about 6'4 in shoes, that means nothing when your uber athletic with long wing span

I'm not that high on him but he does have huge upside. Very basic offensive player. Him plus that trade though is incredible value.

Im trying to process all of this. I liked Mikal, loved his Philly bond and her mother working at the Sixers. He had the potential to become a starter if needed right away.

After watching some clips from Smith I see his athleticism and potential, but we can all agree that he is sort of a project until he develops a consistent shot.

I think the Sixers took him as a plan B in case Fultz busts. He could be the “point guard” on defense and let Simmons run the team on offense.

I guess the sixers staff really loved what they saw in the training sessions with Smith. And I really hope that Miami pick is worth something in the future.

I dunno guys, this dude looks like a BEAST on defense. At 18-19 years old, that's pretty awesome by itself. 45% 3pt shooter...small volume but shot looks decent. If he turns into an Avery Bradley type its a great pick.

The difference is KJ played 3 years in college and didn't really improve upon his weaknesses. He was drafted as that high-flying, shot-blocking wing without other discernible skills. Zhaire has a lot more upside to accompany even more impressive athleticism. It's exactly the swing-for-the-fences upside pick a lot of fans were hoping for. I was on board with Mikal at 10, but what can we do? Hope our development team and his work ethic combine to make a special player.
