He a 2nd rounder the media won't be coming for him unless he really balls out. If he doesn't right away then he can just chill and grow in the background. Frank and Knox will be taking most of the heat.

That was encouraging. The video I watched tonight shows he has a very natural stroke for his size so that probably speaks to his talent more than the cool dunks. But he seems to already understand he will need better footwork and more strength to create space for his shots or board well in traffic. A project with talent is good if they understand they have to assemble the parts of the game over time to achieve the proper alchemy. So he's probably not slow like some are so quick to declare, just a socially awkward kid. He's still very much a kid so patience is key.

It's also important to consider how much catch-up a guy like this has to do if he didn't take ball seriously until the 10th grade. As raw as some think Knox may be, that kid was groomed for this. Mitchell is more like the mutt rescued from the pound with no pedigree. He's lucky to have made it to the NBA at all considering how few advantages he probably had. People need to have a little more compassion sometimes. He might turn out to be something.

GOTTA keep a good locker room around him and Knox. KP and Frank were a different kinda mature for their ages, we're spoiled by that.
This kid, like all kids, needs guidance. Badly.
We hired a gajillion coaches this spring so hopefully development on and off the court is the priority.

Fans tend to overrate the media's influence on players anyway. The dominant influence on these guy's lives, especially the first few years, is the culture of the franchise they are drafted into, the relationships they have with their teammates and the coaching staff, the vibe in the locker room. Kahwi Leonard grew as a player in SA not because it was out of the limelight compared to NY or LA, but because it was a program that nurtured talent. It really matters far less than you think unless the player is a diva in which case they'll always be worried about what the gossip columnists masquerading as sports writers say about them.

He comes across as a little aloof maybe, shy, kind of innocent, not high IQ, but not a dummy. More like a simple cat with loads of talent. I like having a weirdish guy on the team.
We have the right coach. This kid can actually be a VERY special player.

Gotta hope the "Bright Lights Big City" doesn't interfere as well. Be a shame if poor influences and temptations derail him from what appears to be a tremendous skillset.

Wow, he started playing in the 10th grade!!!
The kid is a kid. Long way to go mentally, and I don‘t mean that negatively. He has a nice naievity or innocense about him.
I can see why people might think he is not an IQ guy, but he really seems like a kid inside. But he mentions commitment and hard work, coming from a large and poor family.
We are swinging for the fences here. Great great pick with lotto upside.
I don‘t think he has had problems with the law. I just hope the press is easy on him. Excited about his kid.

The Knicks have one and now with a coach who isn't a tool he will be in the mix again so be the type of guy who can mentor on the defensive side of the ball.
