Re: Wolves select Keita Bates-Diop
Good pick at 48th.
I never thought he was worth the 20th, more of an early 2nd round kind of prospect. Still, to get him mid/late 2nd is good value just by itself, let alone that his skillset fits what the team could use. Hope his injuries are a thing of the past.

Was a little underwhelmed at Okogie pick, so I tuned out, then see we get KBD at 48... instant smile

48. Timberwolves — Keita Bates-Diop, SF/PF
This is a positive pickup for Minnesota. Bates-Diop has an opportunity to help modernize the Timberwolves frontcourt by providing length and shooting at the power forward position. His lengthy wingspan allows him to shoot over the top of opponents. His defensive acumen remains a concern. Nice value here.

How many good years did all the one-and-done guys have?
Lol, so a 18 year old having a good year is the same as a 22 year old having a good year?
The point is the most recent year is the one that should be weighted most heavily. He was Freaking Big 10 player of the year and we got him late second round.
Also those 18 year olds are 19 year olds now and most turned 19 during or even before the season.

Spliced in between his 12 made field goals, seven rebounds and three steals that night were moments when Bates-Diop was calling out and-ones when driving assertively to the rim. He used his pterodactyl arms at one point to motion to the crowd, asking for more noise on what had been the loudest afternoon in Value City Arena in three of four years.
To know how out of character that is, you have to know how shy Bates-Diop is. Jae'Sean Tate, personality-wise Bates-Diop's polar opposite, said his teammate out in public is the kind of guy who will pull his hood up high and keep his head down while walking through campus to avoid attention. Bates-Diop speaks in a soft mumble, often shrugging his shoulders as he talks -- not because he's unsure of himself, he just still seems a little surprised that people want to talk to him.

I don't see that as a red flag for KBD. He's a mid 2nd round pick, we want (and need) him to be a role player. In fact, I think it would be a red flag if he WAS cocky and thought he was the man. Wiggins on the other hand has all the talent in the world to be the guy, but doesn't seem to want it. That's why being shy or passive or whatever is a negative for him.

Thought this was a steal for you guys at 48, I wanted him at 43...wasn't meant to be. Love to see him on the waiver wire soon, but that's just me

Lol, a freshman having a good year is more impressive than a senior having the same year. A freshman having one good year is more impressive than a upperclassmen having one good year as a junior or senior.
1 for 1 from the field is more impressive than 1 for 2 or 1 for 3 in general.

Hes a year younger than Wiggs and KAT, I think age had a lot to do with him dropping.

Means nothing for NBA futures. Donovan Mitchell was 1/2 good years in college. Kyle Kuzma was 1/3. I guess both were destined to be NBA busts.
Besides, we're talking about a mid-2nd here, not a top-5 pick.

Lol, if u really wanna do this we can go through like the last 3 all-star games and you will see that the majority of the college guys were just good in college or atleast good at something every year they were there.

Re: Wolves select Keita Bates-Diop
Who said anything about him being an all-star? It's a mid-2nd! Why is that the level of expectation you have in order for it to be a good pick?

All star? I say hall of fame or bust. He better be as good, if not better than Draymond or this was a wasted pick. Fire Thibs! He can't draft!

Re: Wolves select Keita Bates-Diop
The biggest thing this pick does is gives us a small-ball PF. We got killed at the 4 against Houston, no matter who was out there. KBD will be perfect in the new death lineup.

I'm just happy we got 2 solid defense playing swingmen. Not sure what some people expected.
*Wiggins offense sucks, and his defense sucks too! These guys are an upgrade.

Wiggins problem isn't that he's quiet, it's that he doesn't have a motor.

Re: Wolves select Keita Bates-Diop
Does it mean that Belly won't be in a team next year ? Can Diop be in his role? (3-4 from the bench)
Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
