Wait -- he wore #44 in college? :)

Also, who's that #13 who threw him some nifty passes?

Just watched some videos. Alright I'm really sold. Looks like a solid big man to me, and his athleticism and rim protection fits well with our young guys.

Hah, where did you hear that? Trying to find some post draft interviews, but can't find much

I was referring to his tweet from 2012. Someone posted it at the front page of this thread.

My big confusion on Williams is this -- he claimed to be a great competitor who went back to college for another year. Then during that year he evidently didn't distinguish himself with effort and discipline. So what's the real story?

Sounds like the things he's already good at are a great fit with the team while the areas he's weak in aren't huge needs on the Cs.

Does a good job of anticipating where missed shots will go and is very good at getting position inside ... Rebounds the ball high in the air, doesn’t just let the ball come to him ... High rebounding rate on both ends of the court (12 percent offensive rebound rate, 23.7 defensive rebound rate for his career) ... Rebounds with two hands and grabs boards both inside and outside of his area." - Eric Yearian, NBADraft.net.

Doesn't sound like anyone we've had on our team in a long, long time.

I feel like I have wanted a big man like this on Celtics my whole life .... and now I am worrying that he won’t ever knock down 3s .... crazy times!

I heard the reason for his slipping was medical - teams worried about his knees. Anybody know more about this?

This pick reminds me of Gerald Green draft. Green was protected #5 but many thought he had chance to be best in draft. He ended up being an exciting pick who busted out of NBA for a couple of years but now is probably the third best guy in draft who is still playing ( Chris Paul, Lou Williams ).
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Not gonna celebrate too early because if I'm not mistaken he has some medical red flags and when prospects who were slated to go high in the previous draft fall significantly in the next, there's usually a damn good reason for it. See Jared Sullinger and Perry Jones III.

besides the difficulty is seeing over a 7'er, what is the diff if wingspan is longer than the avg 7' guy.

But I think Williams will send some time with Maine this year. We plan on resigning Baynes. So right now, IMO Williams will be behind Horford, Baynes, and Theis. But I like the defense, shot blocking, rebounding and ability to finish strong at the rim.

And I don't see it at all. I think he needs to be incorporated into the culture more than getting playing time. If it was Mitchell Robinson I would agree with you. There is some questions on his work ethic and his focus. For that reason I want him under Stevens' thumb.

Is he better than future HOFer Jordan Mickey though?

Deandre Jordan picked 35th, Gobert 27th, Capela 25th. A fan can hope he's the next defensive big picked this late to pan out.

Seriously.

No one knows how good Robert Williams will be but to get that type of talent with the 27th and still have possibly 4 first round picks next year is a complete homerun.

Daniel R. Ainge appears to be on a roll.

Another great athlete with size and retained all our assets.

Party on!

Have not read this anywhere at all. I was of the understanding that supposed motor issues and lack of refined offensive game were most likely why he fell. Are there any sources talking about medical issues?
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

Yeah probably a good point. I mentioned trading up for him after the lottery with the Clippers pick and 27 but glad they didn’t have to.
