First off this is a trade that a coach would make not a real GM,Second why
do so many want a broken down Kawhi.

Opinion is the exact opposite, tbh.

I don't understand how people could in any way think this trade was a bad one. Ask Phoenix fans what they think of it and you'll get the answer.

I've never been high on wasting top 10 picks on 4 year College players anyway (even if they do red shirt their first season). Rarely do they pan out to being worth the pick they are taken. They are basically grown ass men with 4 years experience playing against 18 year old rookies in College and it takes them until year 4 to put up numbers against kids to be considered a draft pick. Imagine Ben Simmons playing his Senior year next year in College and what he would do to them  Those sorts of guys like Draymond Green you use 2nd round picks on and hope you hit the lottery.

This type of commentary has got me rethinking some of the things I've been writing about him on these threads, because I've been saying his upside isn't that high. What I've been meaning is the chance of him reaching his upside isn't that high, ie in percentage terms. It's very rare for a player to come in who is that raw offensively to become a positive player on that end of the floor, but I guess if you say his ceiling is high this is what most people mean when they say he has a lot of upside. Well I guess that is true just because of his raw athleticism: TNT in his toes as I wrote on here the other day.

I guess if he makes it he'll join the pantheon of relative draft-nothings who rode their athletic attributes to greatness, a pantheon headed by Giannis (who was a lot better ball-handler at the same age).

He's very limited offensively. Most of his points come from putbacks, backdoor dunks or transition dunks. He's not a shooter nor a creator/initiator. I see him as athletic/physically gifted version of Beverley, minus the 3-point shot. His athleticism is superb, I'm convinced of that.

If the Sixers can't land any superstar via trade or free agency, the situation with Zhaire Smith's trade would become much more interesting... I hope Brett sees him as trade asset, nothing more...

There have been a few with great athleticism with not that great shooting turn into stars. Giannis... Kawhi (He was actually compared to Luc Mbah a Moute when drafted!) Demar DeRozan pick 9.

Then again... he might turn out to be Richaun Holmes.

From the press conference it didn't seem that way. He basically said Bridges was their #1 pick and Smith was their 1B... and they had no intention of parting with Bridges but when the Suns threw in that 1st rounder AND happened to be wanting to trade with the guy they ranked almost on a par with Bridges.... then the Sixers couldn't say no.

So I believe they actually really rate him. Brown also said his shooting is actually a lot better than most people think.

I watched him and I don't believe that his shot is more advanced, we'll see however. Eventually he will hit some spot-up 3-point shots, but he's miles away of being consistent spot-up and catch&shoot player.

And good luck beating Boston with backcourt composed of Simmons, Smith, TJ and Fultz. At least Mikal was some positive difference in that direction... Zhaire Smith is a step back.

That's a random twitter take, though. Guys that can't dribble do not have upside, ceiling or star potential.

That differs from the Suns' version of it, at least on the Suns board. From the Suns version, they were ready to make DiVincenzo the #16 pick and with 30 seconds left on the clock the Sixers called and forced the deal through.

Of course this is all posturing by both sides to make themselves look good, but what is the true story?

How much did Brett Brown have to do with Kawhi Leonard's development in San Antonio? Brown was in charge of player development wasn't he? If Brown played a role in Leonard's development, and Smith reminds Brown of Leonard, then in Brett Brown I trust.

The odds are he'll be winning a few dunk contests, so at least if he doesn't improve we'll have something to hang on him in terms of trade value.

I am ok with the pick, Bridges couldn't dribble much too, we would still hav the shotcreating issue with Bridges, we would be a bit better with his shooting and defense, but we are not winning **** until we can create something.

So either a high impact weird player or a high upside star potential player like Oladipo or Mitchell

I think we are on the same line. He'll be something as Shannon Brown but with decent defense, a lot of highlight dunks and on, casual fans would love him, but in terms of him being crucial and valuable piece against strong playoffs teams, it's unlikely...

So should we pencil Zhaire Smith in as Marco's replacement (26mpg off the bench)? Granted he doesn't have the shooting, but offers significantly more in other major areas.

At first I believed that tweet about the Sixers calling Phoenix but now I don’t. If someone calls you to trade WHY would you part with a valuable asset?

Look at the trade with the Clippers for 12 last night. The most they got was 2 future 2nds for SGA. That’s more of what I would expect if the Sixers called Phoenix and “forced” a deal

Covington obviously, he was amazing guarding Tatum.

i'm kind of looking at RoCo + Miami '21 as the basis for our KL rental.
